I got tickets to The Boss in Gothenborg this summer Cool

Before that I will go to Oslo, Norway to see Mumford and Sons and to Gothenborg once more to see Håkan Hellström play for a full crowded Ullevi just as Springsteens concert. Great music year for me Pfft

June will be a great month for Gothenburg and Ullevi this year. Håkan Hellström will start if off with two concerts before Iron Maiden takes the stage. Then Bruce Springsteen will end it off with a couple of shows. Smile

I managed to get tickets to HÃ¥kan's second concert, which is nice. Pfft

@lakebeach

What did you think of the concert yesterday? Smile

I was there the day before and it was great, but must say I was there two years ago aswell and that was a bit better.

Now time to reload for The Boss the 25th June in Gothenborg and 29th June in Oslo! Smile Grin

Yesterday's concert really was great, HÃ¥kan is amazing live. And Augustifamiljen backs him up in an excellent way. "Din tid kommer" was awesome!

Although a new record was set, 70 144 people in the audience, yesterday just can't (nothing can) be compared to 2014's show. That really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

So yesterday it was time for The Boss on Ullevi and he kept on playing all night.
3 hours and 58 mins that´s not bad for a 66 year old man, infact what I undestand his 2nd longest concert ever.

I´m very glad he played one of my favourites he rarely plays live, Tunnel of Love.

Where I sat the sound was not perfect all the time but I´m happy and satisfied Grin

I've been to a concert of the NDR Philharmonic Orchestra yesterday, and it was really incredible. It was an open air event at night, it was getting dark as the concert progressed and the music was truly inspiring. They played part of a concert for cello by Shostakovich, and then the ninth symphony by Antonin Dvorak.

Very occasionally I've been listening to classical music before, but after last night, I would really like to expand my knowledge. So I was hoping to get some input from anyone here who is a bit more knowledgeable on the subject. Basically what I'm looking for are some the "landmark pieces", if you can call it like that, the classics of classical music if you will. Starting points from which to go further. And also maybe just some of your personal favorites. Orchestral and piano pieces in particular but not exclusively.

I'm glad for any advice, thanks in advance Wink

Well, I cannot give any advice to you, but as you tell us the concert to which you went yesterday, I will do the same.

Actually we can't call it a concert, as it was a performance in a café. It was an Elvis Presley tribute, a singer that imitates his figure and he does it really really well. I already saw that man twice, but last night he was accompanied by his newly formed band, made by drums, bass, keyboard and electric guitar. It does sound amazing, really!

I am linked to Elvis Presley because my uncle is a total fan. A fan! He even named their children, my cousins, Elvis and Lisa Marie, so yes, we can call him a real fan!

His name is John Mencis and he performances in some festivals in Spain and also makes performances like last night's.

Time for me to hijack this thread as well.
One week ago (already Shock ) I've visited with my Sister the festival Colours of Ostrava for two days, Friday and Saturday.
It was extremely great as we saw: Aurora
My all-time favorite band of Monsters and Men
Susanne Sundfør
Caro Emerald
And my sisters favorite band, Kodaline
It was an awesome atmosphere, a Great crowd and a nice setting as the festival took place in an old industrial quarter of Ostrava.
My highlight was obviously the OMAM concert, where they played songs like Little Talks (where the whole crowd sang the complete song), Mountain Sound, Lakehouse or Hunger. But also the AURORA concert was great, she has a great stage presence (is that even a word in English?). Also it was raining all Saturday, which led to us standing in the rain during the Caro Emerald and Kodaline concert, but they were still great.
Btw I heard because of that 4 DSC songs
It would be even six but sadly OMAM didn't play from finner, while the concert of M83, also a band which I very like, was a day before, so I couldn't attend it.

MARSUPILAMI
Of Monsters and Men sound nice and Kodaline collab'd with Kygo, so they are great as well Pfft

Only just seen this thread so sorry for a late reply.

Being a pianist, I particularly enjoy piano concertos for combining essentially the best elements of orchestral pieces and piano pieces. The classics in that genre are probably Rachmaninoff's 2nd and 3rd piano concertos, Tchaikovsky's 1st piano concerto and Grieg's piano concerto, with Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Prokofiev further listening if you want.
I also particularly enjoy Tchaikovsky's symphonies (no.6, the Pathetique, is probably the most famous), and in terms of solo piano it's hard to go wrong with the piano sonatas of Beethoven and Mozart, or anything by Chopin (a particular favourite of mine at the moment is the 'Heroic' Polonaise op.53, a wonderful example of turning a Polish folk rhythm into a complex and captivating virtuoso piece)

My favourite music is probably the late Romantic to early modern period of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev (and indeed Shostakovich and Dvorak) so I may be doing earlier 'greats' like Bach, Haydn and Mozart a disservice by not mentioning them so much but I don't know quite so much about them.

Hope this helps Smile

Tbf this isn't up for discussion. Just that my personal obsession with Avril Lavigne continues to be entirely vindicated. New Album is just such an awesome throw back it makes me feel 15 again in the best way. And i've listened to it about 15 times in the last week.

I do think the video for "Bite Me" is a better video, "Love It When You Hate Me" is the superior song. I could spend literal ages saying how good this Album is, or Avril in general. So instead i'll drop the other video link and go back having a frankly bizare amount of crushes on Canadians.

I'll give the album a listen. I have very fond memories of jumping around to Sk8tr Boi when I was like 4. And I never truly grew out of my pop punk phase. Pfft
