No easy choice...
..but I will give it a try:
Amstel: 3rd
Wallone: 2nd
Liege: 1st
Though I do hope for a triple, which you can achieve for sure! Good luck and nice preview as always!

Amstel Gold Race - Preview
This race is named after a beer. I don't now if thats the reason why this race is so nervous and with so many crashes, but I never seen Geraint Thomas paricipate in this race so there souldn't be any free beer.
The cousre is up and down all day. It reminds a lot about Ronde van Vlaandren but without cobbles and more hills, and Cauberg of course. The last climb to finish, called Cauberg, is a steep climb in the middle of Valkenburg. A claasic place in the history of cycling which you climb three times in Amstel Gold Race. However, it's not as difficult as Mur de Huy but it will hurt after 260kms.
4th in 2009. 1st in 2010 and 2011. 2nd in 2012. Philippe Gilbert is made for this race!
2012 | Damiano Cunego | Lampre | 2011 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma-Lotto | 2010 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma-Lotto | 2009 | Serguei Ivanov | Team Katusha | 2008 | Damiano Cunego | Lampre | 2007 | Stefan Schumacher | Gerolsteiner | 2006 | Fränk Schleck | Team CSC | 2005 | Danilo Di Luca | Liquigas-Bianchi | 2004 | Davide Rebellin | Gerolsteiner | 2003 | Alexandre Vinokourov | Team Telekom |
Damiano is the most recent winner of Amstel. This year is he riding for Liquigas, will they be able to help him so he can take his 3rd victory in this race?

Philippe's Comment: "Omega Pharma is the strongest team and if I loose I can't complain over a bad team or something like that. The guys will do everything for me so it's up to me now. Valverde will probably wait for the sprint but a rider like Hesjedal kmost attack if he wants to win, I will follow him if he does and the outsprint him!
Wheather Forecast:
Cloudy and 10° C.

The race starts in a grey Netherland and a breakaway is formed. Steven Kruijswijk is here to help Philippe so he joins the break and shows the team coulours.
Leopard - Trek and Rapha - Focus works in the bunch. Leopard is working for Kreuziger and Kolobnev while Rapha helps Hesjedal.
Saxobank and Katusha are also intressted in a hard pace and joins Leopard and Rapha in the work over the first hills.
It seems like Rapha is the strongest team though. Dominik Nerz leads the bunch.
The break is caught early today thanks to an great work by Rapha. Now it's up to Philippe to win this race!
Rapha continues to lead the bunch but Porte, Kennaugh and Hermans makes the pace harder than before. Plenty of riders is struggling now. Armand Deldaele and Steven Kruijswijk are among thoose.
Jan Bakelandts attacks! Juan José Cobo (Astana) tries to follow him but the young belgian looks strong. It's an good move for Omega Pharma!
Cobo isn't able to follow Bakelandts so he takes an solo lead. Roman Kreuziger (Leopard) and Francesco Gavazzi (Katusha) attack and joins Cobo.
The pace behind is hard when the bunch enter Keutenberg. Kreuziger, Gavazzi and Cobo are caught and Philippe sees his chance to attack and takes it! He joins Bakelandts in the front.
Bakelandts helps Philippe and then he drops. Philippe is now in a solo lead, 50s in front of the bunch!
Philippe is so strong today and the gap is still 50s when he enter Valkenburg. He will soon hit the final climb Cauberg. We have seen several of solo attacks being chased down in the Cauberg before, so we are not sure about the victory yet.
Jan Bakelandts still has an small gap down to the bunch. Francesco Gavazzi
(Katusha) makes an last attack before Cauberg.
Philippe wins Amstel Gold Race! The bunch is not even close to catch him in the final kms. This is his 3rd victory in this race and has showed that he can make the triple once again!
Jan Bakelandts holds off and takes the 2nd! What an team perfomance by the guys today!
1st with Philippe and 2nd with Bakelandts isn't enough today! Devenyns takes 8th and Vanendert is 10th. Johan van Summeren makes another great classic and finishes 12th.
Philippe Gilbert wins Amstel Gold Race 2013. 1 done. 2 to go!

Wow, you attack a lot, I can't remember a move in a classic where an Omega rider isn't present.
Btw, I have a constructive critic. I hadn't read the race preview before you post the report, and, after doing so, you added 2013 winner's to the race preview. So I was reading both preview + report, and got to know who won it before the report, which isn't really fun.
Also, I can't see why people who have already read preview/report would come back to the preview. Instead, people who have missed the post or decided to read the whole story (a person who doesn't follow it ofc) would also miss the fun on some races.
Please take this as a constructive critic =) Finally, congrats to the great result with Gilbert, and even better with Omega as a team!

All: Thanks, Fleche Wallone will be raced and reported tomorrow! Let's do the triple once again!
lluuiiggii: Without constructive critic you can't make any improvment so thanks! I added the 2013 winner in case of I will play one more season. Then I could simply copy the old preview and save some time. Now I see, that's an bad idea so I won't do that anymore. I also update his Programme and the first post with results after each race, should I stop doing that to or is that ok?
However, you ponted out that I attack a lot. Philippe is an aggresive rider and I want to play realistic so I attack as much as possible. It's also almost impossible to win a uphill sprint with this AI.

In the first page I think it's ok, because when there is a new post I (and I assume other do that as well) go directly to the last page.
As for the attacks, I didn't mean only Gilbert, but the whole Omega team. And I agree that uphill sprint is really bad in PCM 10.

La Fleche Wallone - Preview
Fleche Wallone is all about Mur de Huy. Don't know about Mur de Huy? Why are you on this forum then? Well, Mur de Huy is the final hill in La Fleche Wallone. It's 1300m long and with and average gradient of 9,3% which means you climb 121 m. The steepest selection 26%.It's probably the toughest climb in the Ardenner Classics and we're going to sprint uhill it.
The couse is also Mur de Huy. Your riding 3 times uphill "the Mur". However, this race is decided the last time in Mur de Huy so patience is an keyword if you want to win this. It's always a bunch of ~70 riders that enter Mur de Huy last time and the smartest and "coolest" riders win. Not Cadel Evans.
Philippe has only won here one time, in 2011. Let's hope for something similar this year.
2004 | | Davide Rebellin (ITA) | Gerolsteiner | 2005 | | Danilo Di Luca (ITA) | Liquigas-Bianchi | 2006 | | Alejandro Valverde (ESP) | Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears | 2007 | | Davide Rebellin (ITA) | Gerolsteiner | 2008 | | Kim Kirchen (LUX) | Team High Road | 2009 | | Davide Rebellin (ITA) | Diquigiovanni-Androni | 2010 | | Cadel Evans (AUS) | BMC Racing Team | 2011 | | Philippe Gilbert (BEL) | Omega Pharma-Lotto | 2012 | | Kim Kirchen (LUX) | Team Garmin - Cervélo |
Kim Kirchen won last year. He also won in 2008. He doesn't participate this year though.

Marc's Comment: "Philippe will be our leader. We will attack a lot, of course. We like to ride aggresive ad attack because we think it's better with one rider in the break than 8 in the bunch. However, Bakelandts, Vanendert, Devenyns and van Summeren will be up there to assist Philippe in the end."
Philippe Info:
Marc's Comment: "Finally, Philippe have peaked. Prehaps a little bit later than expected so he is still on 98pts which mean excellent shape. He can win this!

Philippe's Comment: "OmegaPharma is strong as always. However, Contador have tried to win this a couple of time by now but never suceeded. Hesjedal is a good climber but his sprint is probably not good enough. Valverde's time is over.

The race starts in Charleroi but the weather isn't as good as promised. However, the only thing that is important today is that Philippe is as good as promised.
Omega Pharma has an rider in the break of course. Today it's the Finnish champion, Jussi Veikkanen.
The Break:
J.Veikkanen (Omega Pharma)
L.Laverde (HTC)
M.Pedersen (SAxoBank)
J.Loubet (Ag2r)
M.Albasini (Leopard)
Jussi Veikkanen leads the break uphill Mur de Huy for the first time today. In some hours the race will be decided here.
5 minutes later the bunch is in Huy. Rapha - Focus leads the bunch. The pace isn't very hard so all riders are able to foolow without any priblems.
Michael ALbasini (Leopard) drops the breakaway. Jussi looks strong an the gap is 7'00 minutes.
Roman Kreuziger (Leopard) and Katusha is now working in the bunch and the pace increases. Plenty of riders are in trouble but Philippe looks untouched.
It's the second time uphill Mur de Huy. The bunch has almost caught the break but Jussi Veikkanen still has some energy left to take the sprint on top of Mur and earns some money.
Rapha is in the front again. They really impresse me a lot, especially since it's their first year in ProTour.
Alejandro Valverde (HTC) attacks! He is one of the favourites so we (Omega Pharma) bring the team up to catch him!
Bakelandts, Devenyns, van Summeren, Veikkanen and Vanendert works hard to catch Valverde and they also make a lot of other riders suffering. Great work by the guys!
Philippe Gilbert attacks to avoid an uphill sprint! The attack is good but the hill is a little to short to make any big gap.
Andy Schleck (Katusha) works to catch Philippe and finally they reach him. Don't cry yet, there is still time to recover before the sprint!
Philippe is fully recovered and Devenyns takes him into the best posistion before the sprint so the attack didn't made any sense. If Philippe don't win now I will be mad on the AI!
Coming from nowhere (not even top-10 with 1km to go) Alberto Contador wins Fleche Wallone and I must admit (*almost crying) Philippe will not make the triple once again.
Another rider coming from nowhere in the final meters is Ryder Hesjedal who takes the 2nd behind Caontador who crushes his opponents today.
Philippe wont make the triple but he make it to the podium at least. He is 3rd today, 15 seconds behind Contador. It's an good results by Philippe but we were here to take the win, nothing else.
Alberto Contador wins La Fleche Wallone 2013.

Well, we didn't expected (and see) Contador finishing that dominant. You tried and almost made it.. the 3rd is still a great result.. now your goal should be to hit the podium in all of the three races

I hope you win LBL then my prediction was right. I almost knew for sure that you wouldn't win this race because the climb before the finish isn't long enough.. |
