Thanks all for the comments.
I already played the 5th stage before I read your post, Oleg.
And it was still the old one.

Tombola
Nice story, doing great!

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 5
Snapper Point - Willunga
img546.imageshack.us/img546/1574/pcm0001.jpg
I still play the old profile but actually i quite liked the stage. Haven`t known there is a newer version.
It could be the deciding stage of the Tour Down Under. Passing the Willunga Hill twice there could be attacks. As last year we have the task to defend the leader jersey on this stage. Hopefully we can do better this year and keep they jersey.

img843.imageshack.us/img843/6939/pcm0002d.jpg
Heinrich Haussler is the new race leader. What a perfect start in the first real race for our team. Actually we wanted to get the mountain jersey with Bobridge but now all have to work for Haussler to keep the jersey.

img18.imageshack.us/img18/4612/pcm0003s.jpg
Some riders attacked this morning. Hutarovich (FDJ), Moreau (Movistar), Trofimov (Katusha), Leezer (RadioShack), Renshaw (HTC), Goddaert (Ag2r) and Scheirlinckx (Omega). Except of Renshaw all riders have +1'25 as they lost time on stage 3. Renshaw is just 16s back.

img228.imageshack.us/img228/1982/pcm0004t.jpg
A few kilometers in front of the first crossing of Willunga Hill some good puncheurs with an attack. Voeckler was the first, He was followed by Txurruka and Wiggins.

img19.imageshack.us/img19/5121/pcm0005z.jpg
Immediately Garmin increases the pace. 60km to go and 4min to the first and 1min to Voeckler`s group.

img199.imageshack.us/img199/2978/pcm0006w.jpg
The riders reach the first climb. You can see all groups on the straight climb. Many sprinters and weaker climbers with big problems now. Goss and Haussler are still doing good.

img842.imageshack.us/img842/5750/pcm0007o.jpg
Cameron Meyer is doing extremely well on the climb. Rowe and Wilson felt back with problems while Meyer is still reducing the gap.
40km -> 3min

img33.imageshack.us/img33/2972/pcm0008b.jpg
Luckily Cofidis starts to support us as Taaramae is also still in the peloton.
Also Lowe and Bobridge are doing the pace now as they are still fit.

img200.imageshack.us/img200/5069/pcm0010u.jpg
While Lowe is doing a crazy pace so that many riders fall back, Taaramae with an attack. Joaquin Rodriguez and surprisingly Boonen, who looks to be fit just on the hilly stages follow.

img197.imageshack.us/img197/5887/pcm0011el.jpg
Unfortunately the group around Voeckler is very fast and so they have still 2min with 14km to go. This will be very close now. Also Goss is helping out now but although our riders are doing great and the pace is very high, we can`t really come closer.

img156.imageshack.us/img156/9976/pcm0012.jpg
In the first group just Voeckler, Txurruka and surprisingly Trofimov, who was in the early break can hold a high pace. Scheirlinckx, who was also in the first group comes next. Behind them just Wiggins and Rodriguez riding solo before the peloton around Haussler and Goss.

img684.imageshack.us/img684/3086/pcm0013j.jpg
Trofimov takes the stage. A very strong performance by the Russian as he lost much more energy than the other two.
All of them were +1'25, so Haussler has still a bit time to finish.

img573.imageshack.us/img573/2295/pcm0014k.jpg
Haussler wins the sprint of the peloton. But too late. The watch stopped at +1'48, what means that all riders but Wiggins will overtake him in the overall. Again this stage destroyed all overall hopes for us. But I can`t be angry with our team as all of them were working much harder than I could have expected.
Tomorrow we will have the chance to overtake Rodriguez to become 5th as last year. We also wants to stay in the points jersey.

Bad you lost the jersey, but good luck for last stage, hopefully you can pass Rodriguez on the overall.

Thanks all.
Indeed not the best result for us. But it`s still a good start into the season so far.

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 6
Adelaide - Adelaide
img546.imageshack.us/img546/7236/pcm0009.jpg
The final stage of the Tour Down Under is a short 90km criterium through Adelaide. In general this stage ends with a sprint finish. So we hope for another nice result with Haussler and Goss.

img25.imageshack.us/img25/1864/pcm0015.jpg
Many riders try it with an attack. Most famous are Boasson Hagen (Sky), Bakelants (Omega), and Bertogliati (Androni).

img98.imageshack.us/img98/3271/pcm0016y.jpg
Wilson and Rowe are doing the pace in the field as we want a nice end in Down Under and still looking on the 5th in the overall.

img822.imageshack.us/img822/8469/pcm0017a.jpg
Quite surprising Wesley Sulzberger takes the last stage. He isn`t a bad sprinter but against all the top sprinters here, this is a big win. It`s also his first win as pro rider.
Duqe and Davis are following next ahead of Matthew Goss with his best stage result. Haussler jsut finished 12th as he was blocked in the end and so our lead our Goss with the better result.
Because all point contenders had similar problems Haussler wins the jersey.

img6.imageshack.us/img6/2402/pcm0018z.jpg
What a shame. Thomas Voeckler, 2nd in the overall, crashed with 7km to go and lost several minutes also his team mates worked hard for him.
So Haussler will gain a position even without time bonifications.
But for Europcar this is the worst case as they need many points to come back into Pro Tour.

Bad you couldn't get bonifications to pass Rodriguez but still a very good TDU with 5th overall and points classification.

Oh and bad for Voeckler, crashing with 7km to go..

tsmoha
Finally I found some time to read Smile Good start into the season in TdU! And your new graphics look awesome! Btw: Voeckler seems to have a lot of bad luck with this new green jersey from his team (you may remember his crash in my story).. Wink

baia
Well,as it is the start of the season,i can say it´s a good result for Garmin.

FreitasPCM
I feel sorry for Voeckler. Sad

roturn
Thanks all. Voeckler was indeed a shame as he is one of my favourite riders.
NExt race will be Calabria with a very strong squad as all riders need a fast fitness boost before the important races, which start end of February and in March.

Alakagom
Great tdu for you, with a win, points jersey and 5th overall your teamdid great, now hopefullu the good results will continue in Europe Smile

Thanks.

The Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria is a road bicycle race held annually in Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. It was first held in 1920 but the number of stages in the last 10 years changed a lot between 1 and 4 stages.
In 2012 we will have 4 days with some hilly and flat stages.
Record winner with 3 wins is the Italian Michele Dancelli, who won the race for 3 different teams from 1966-68.

Garmin squad in 2012
img600.imageshack.us/img600/364/teamf.jpg
Daniel Martin will start the season quite early this year on his way to the Giro. He will be co lead by Lars Boom, who should have the best form of all our riders. Tyler Farrar will try to get good results on the flat stages, while the other riders will help and get chances to attack. Actually Felline was our rider for a breakaway on a more hilly stage, but as he was ill for one week in January he is still looking for his form.

Although the officials claimed Boom to be the top favourite, we think it`s something for the climbers. Next to us especially Omega Lotto with Moreno, Vanendert and Bakelants are very strong here.
Obviously many sprinters use this race as preparation, with Farrar, Greipel, Napolitano, Bennati, Haedo, McEwen, Bos, Modolo and Ciolek there are several of great sprinters here.
As I just saw, Svein Tuft will ride for Team Geox this season after getting no contract with us because of his age. Good luck for him and hopefully a nice season. Other riders, who lead their teams after leaving the ProTour are Elmiger (Adria) and Bak (Vorarlberg).

Good luck for Calabria. Let's hope that the game is indeed right and Martin/Boom are top favorites Grin

janne_837
Nice results in Down Under Wink Good luck for Calabria, would be great if Martin directly wins his first race 2011!

roturn
Thanks both of you. Martin`s form is at ~63, but the field isn`t too strong and the other riders also won`t have a good form. So I really hope to get a first overall win in 2012. But it`s also the first "mountain" stage on extreme.

Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria - Stage 1
Reggio Calabria - Gioia Tauro
img515.imageshack.us/img515/1574/pcm0001.jpg
The first stage directly starts with some hard climbing. The first intermediate sprint expects us after a long climb on top of the first hill.
But the real difficulty starts 40km in front of the finish. 16km climbing with more than 6% in average. This will be the point where the whole race could already be decided.

img59.imageshack.us/img59/6563/pcm0002.jpg
4 riders with an attack. Longo Borghini (Androni), Hollenstein (Vorarlberg), Chiarini (Rosa) and Szczawinski (Miche).

img137.imageshack.us/img137/89/pcm0003.jpg
Several teams share the work behind. Especially Liquigas is doing a lot. Bennati must feel excellent as he isn`t such a great climber, but quite good on hills for a sprinter. At least he was 2nd in the overall last year. (Simulated Results)

img28.imageshack.us/img28/7573/pcm0004y.jpg
With 70km to go we increase the pace with Millar, Kreder and Felline.
Some of the riders in the front aren`t bad climbers and we don`t want any surprises here.

img703.imageshack.us/img703/9123/pcm0005c.jpg
With 2min advance the group starts the climb. 16km can be very painful, especially that early in the season.

img706.imageshack.us/img706/3032/pcm0006.jpg
Omega Pharma - Lotto with an heavy acceleration and it`s not Moreno as expected. Vanendert and Bakelants are able to create a gap to the peloton, which starts to split a lot meanwhile.
This must have been planned as the Belgian fans just cheered here.

img822.imageshack.us/img822/967/pcm0007i.jpg
But Martin is also very strong and after a short persecution he is able to join the two Belgians, which just caught the breakaway.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/9707/pcm0008q.jpg
Vanendert is still doing most work in this group while Martin and Bakelants are saving energy. With 1km to the top Bakelants attacked for the KoM points. Martin followed a bit too late and could react but on the descent all 3 joined again.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/8462/pcm0009v.jpg
Back in the big group it`s still Liquigas with most work. And Bennati is still quite far in front while most other sprinters, including Farrar, already felt back. But good for us that Boom is directly next to them feeling great.

img24.imageshack.us/img24/1456/pcm0010x.jpg
Although Martin had the best position in the end, he wasn`t able to overtake Bakelants. A deserved win by the 26 year old Belgium and also a great result for Martin in his first race. But as expected, Omega could be the dominant team here.
Boom who was able to get an advance on the last kilometers to the top finished 4th but for some reason he was counted s.t. to the peloton, which was led by Bennati. Stupid but he will try again on stage 3.
Because of this the advance of the first 3 was also ~20s less than normally. Should have stopped with Boom, if I had known this.
