Thanks a lot. Nice to hear that you liked the story.

Summary of 2011

In general the season was very successful. We were able to celebrate a lot of wins and also the first GT win of Garmin. We had great moments in all GT`s and most classics this year. Just the Ardennes and Milano San Remo were a bit unlucky.

Grand Tours

img96.imageshack.us/img96/5176/65671538.jpg

Nibali won the first GT with a great domination. 11 stage wins!!!
Scarponi and Basso weren`t able to challenge him at all. Daniel Martin was there in most mountain stages but lost a possible podium on a stupid flat stage, but he will be stronger the next time.
In the Tour Contador won with a nice advance. Andy lost his 2nd in the time trial. Unfortunately Hesjedal also lost his top 10 there. Therefore we won the mountain jersey again and had chances for the green jersey until the last stage.
The Vuelta was dominated by Sanchez with 8 stage wins. So he also won the points and KoM jersey. Tour champion Contador couldn`t repeat his win from last year as he had too many problems in the mountains.

Monuments & Worlds

img408.imageshack.us/img408/9787/monumentswc.jpg

As in 2010 Cancellara won the double of MSR and RVV. Nobody was able to beat him there, but therefore he couldn`t win Paris Roubaix, where his team mate Breschel was the winner. Everybody was looking on the Suisse rider, but Rijs had another tactic.
Gilbert won the Ardennes monument and showed that he is the best puncheur in the peloton.
As last year the Lombardia was the only monument won by a real surprise.
26 year old Stortoni with his biggest win.
With a late attack Wegmann won the rainbow jersey and all sprinters, who were already preparing for a sprint were beaten.
Garmin rider Lars Boom won the ITT World Championship with a great ride and will lead our team in several races the next year.

ProTour

Teams

img35.imageshack.us/img35/7486/ptteam.jpg

Leopard - Trek won the ranking thanks to the early wins by Cancellara and Breschel and Andy`s 3rd in the Tour.
Liquigas and Garmin follow on the next places.
Saxobank - Sungard and Europcar have to go down into Continental league next year. Filippo Pozzato, who signed with Saxobank to close the gap, Haussler and Hushovd created, will go to Astana instead.

Individual

img823.imageshack.us/img823/209/ptfahrer.jpg

With several good results in the Ardennes and Lombarida, the win in the Tour and the 2nd in the Vuelta Contador really deserved to win this ranking.
Luis Leon Sanchez on 5 and Hesjedal on 6 complete a good Garmin season.

Continental Tour

Teams

img832.imageshack.us/img832/707/continentalteam.jpg

Thanks to a great Autumn with a strong Taaramae and Keukeleire Cofidis won this ranking ahead of Landbouwcredit with Kenny Dehaes and Team Geox around Felline.

Individual

img510.imageshack.us/img510/5405/continentalfahrer.jpg

Dehaes wins this ranking with many classic wins in smaller races. Visconti and Keukeleire were more constant than Felline and jumped on the podium. After a great first half with several wins Felline wasn`t able to hold this niveau in the second half. Hopefully he will be similar successful next year with us.

CQ-Ranking

Teams

img515.imageshack.us/img515/5008/cqteam.jpg

Liquigas already looked like the secure winner but after great last 2 months Garmin came very close and so it was exciting up to the last race.
Unfortunately for us Sagan and Nibali showed some great form in Octobre and also Gilbert did well in Lombardia and so they won deserved.
Cofidis around Taaramae and Keukeleire and Bonnet will get a PT license next year as also Farnese Vini - Neri with a great hill section with Visconti, Gerrans, Kirchen, Popovych and Sinkewitz.

Individual

img192.imageshack.us/img192/2364/cqfahrer.jpg

Contador won this ranking easily. Nice for us that LL Sanchez is coming next, especially after his Vuelta domination and the win in Paris Nice and many good results in other races.
Hesjedal joined the top 10 after his wins in Canada and the 3rd in Lombardia.

Victories

Team

img840.imageshack.us/img840/6543/siegeteam.jpg

With 52 wins Garmin was the most successful team in this season although we had a time of almost 2 months without a single win in the middle of the year.

Individual

img13.imageshack.us/img13/1016/siegefahrer.jpg

Farrar, Sanchez and Cancellara share this trophy with 13 wins each. Farrar wasn`t able to win 19 stages as in 2010 but therefore most wins were in bigger races like his 2 in the Tour de France.

Rider of the year

Nominations

img823.imageshack.us/img823/4931/fahrerdesjahresnominier.jpg

With Ryder Hesjedal and Luis Leon Sanchez we have 2 riders here and also Haussler was nominated as winner of the Green Jersey in the Tour.
All GT winners are here, plus Breschel, Cancellara and Gilbert, which won a monument. Sanchez was successful in several races but was missing a really big win. Fabian Wegmann is the biggest surprise in this list. He won the World Championships and one stage in the Tour de Suisse and is the only Continental rider.

Result

Spoiler

img46.imageshack.us/img46/97/fahrerdesjahresgewinner.jpg

You could have expected the first two here as they were very successful all over the season. But Fabian Wegmann is definitely a big surprise. Even bigger than his nomination. Neither the Giro or the Vuelta dominators were able to beat him nor the winner of big monuments or several races.

Rider of the Year voting is terrible in this game. A nice idea, but executed horribly.

Welcome to the team presentation in Denver. We proudly present our team for 2012 and some goals for the season.
But instead of much talks I should ask the riders to come in.

At first our climbers and stage racers
img64.imageshack.us/img64/3709/gtclimber.jpg
Daniel Martin is by far the strongest climber in our team. He will lead us in the Giro again. He also will ride in Austria and Pologne again. He starts the season earlier than last year in late January in Calabria.
Stetina will become a similar strong rider than Martin but this year he has still to learn. And who could teach him better than Martin himself. So the young US American will join Martin in Italy.
Luis Leon Sanchez, winner of the Vuelta 2011 will lead us in in the Tour de France as there are a lot of time trial kilometers. We hope to get a nice result there, although he won`t dominate it as much as in Spain. He will also aim for Paris - Nice, Pais Vasco and the Tour of California.
Our new Dane Jakob Fuglsang will also ride the Tour de France. Other races are Tirreno Adriatico as co leader and leader in the Dauphinee. He will also lead our team in smaller stage races.
Ryder Hesjedal will focus more on the Ardennes this year. After a longer race break he will be back in a great shape for the Vuelta and the Lombardia.

Next our sprinters
img217.imageshack.us/img217/8019/sprinterc.jpg
As we have a lot of quality here, we had to decide, which race will suit whom best.
So Tyler Farrar will ride the Giro again, where he won the points jersey in 2010. This is also his biggest goal. Other goals for him are Tirreno Adriatico, Kuurne Brussel Kuurne and Vattenfall Cyclassics.
Heinrich Haussler is a great addition for the cobbled classics. So these races are big goals for him. He also will do his best in Milano San Remo and after winning the green jersey in France last year, he will get the chance to defend it.
Jose Joaquin Rojas Gilwill again ride the Vuelta. Hopefully he can win several races in smaller stage races and in Catalunya and Eneco.
Matthew Goss won`t ride any GT this year. Therefore he is our main sprinter in most other races he takes part. This starts with the Santos Tour Down Under, where Haussler will help him in the sprints. He will also ride in Paris Nice, Milan San Remo, Paris Tours, California, Suisse...
Baris Dao improved very well and will take the next step this year. He will get some chances in smaller races and will also ride his first GT`s. He will help Farrar in the Giro and maybe even joining our squad in the Vuelta. But this depends on his form and improvement.

Cobbled classics
img25.imageshack.us/img25/816/cobbles.jpg
Martijn Maaskant will be the leader in Paris Roubaix, where he finished 5th last year. HE will also be one of our leaders in all other cobbled classics. Then he will help Rojas as good as possible in the Vuelta.
Johan Vansummeren will be our leader for the the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and co lead in the other cobbled races. But also in Milano San Remo, Lombardia and the Ardennes we expect nice results. He will ride the Tour de France as helper and then lead in Canada again.
Lars Boom showed last year that he can win one week races. So he will be our leader in some of these races like Eneco. In the cobbled classics he might have to help with some freedoms as also in the Ardennes. In the Tour de France he will get some days to attack again.
Fabio Felline is one of the biggest talents in cycling and so we are proud to have him in our team. He can win smaller races as shown last year. Joining a bigger team is of course harder and so he will have to help in the big classics, but in smaller races he can get his freedoms. He will also ride the Giro d'Italia.

Puncheurs
img16.imageshack.us/img16/7010/puncheur.jpg
In the hilly classics we will try to challenge as good as possible although it will be hard to beat guys like Gilbert there. But next to our leaders there
Fredrik Kessiakoff is definitely a rider, who can perform very well as shown in the Vuelta last year, what is his big goal in the GT`s again. In most races he has to help but he will of course get some freedom to get some results on his own.

Pure time trialists
img834.imageshack.us/img834/5580/timetrialist.jpg
Lars Boom as ITT World Champion will of course be a big favourite in most time trials. But also our two young Australians Jack Bobridge and Cameron Meyer improved well. Nevertheless they have to work a lot next to attacks on some stages.
Danny Pate also improved a lot and can be a big help and a good bet in many races.
David Millar isn`t getting younger but he can read the situation better than anyone else. So he will be a important part of our team. But in several races he proved that he can still fight to stay on the favourites' wheels.
All 5 of these riders will be seen in several breakaways I guess.

Helpers
img834.imageshack.us/img834/4743/helperw.jpg
In general these riders will support their leaders as good as possible. All of them might get chances to join breakaways but only if the situation allows it.
Younger riders like Löw, Peterson, Rowe, Kreder and Vandervelde can still improve and hopefully they get some good results.
Löw and Rowe go into their 2nd season as professional cyclists but in relationship to Dao they still have to learn a lot. So it will be an important season for both of them as they have to prove that they are good enough for the Pro Tour.

img198.imageshack.us/img198/2445/garmincerveloteamjersey.jpg
As the success came back with the new jersey last season we will keep it. Just the National Champions got a new kit. At the moment we got the Italian Road Champion (Felline) and the Irish one (Martin). Hopefully two more will join in January in the Australian champs.

img94.imageshack.us/img94/8904/farrahbike01.jpg
We also renewed the Contract with Felt and will use their bikes again. We were very happy last year where we had just a very few punctures or damaged bikes. So we trust their quality a lot.

Thank you for your attention and good luck for a successful season.

Thanks a lot.

Some more news to the new season before I really start.
As long as there are still "realistic" results I will play on Extreme. If my riders start to struggle extremely early or have no chance at all, altough they are in a good form I will change again.

Sponsors

img836.imageshack.us/img836/5623/180pxgeneralelectriclog.jpg

General Electric will be our first sponsor. They sponsor us with a lot of money and so they expect good results in the Vuelta a Espana.

1.bp.blogspot.com/_QD9smiKKCys/S6j00VzxgrI/AAAAAAAABpI/ik_QC2VopdI/S269/bontrager-large.gif

Bontrager will sponsor our wheels. They gave us one of our toughest goals with a top 3 in Milano San Remo.

img403.imageshack.us/img403/6280/feltlogo.jpg

As mentioned earlier, Felt will also sponsor us in 2012. Next to the bikes they also spend some money for our team. Therefore they expect good results all over the season and especially in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, where we will ride with their newest model for this kind of racing.

Season goals

img51.imageshack.us/img51/3853/goalsy.jpg

With riders like Haussler, Goss or Vansummeren we should be able to get a podium in MSR, but it will definitely be hard against all the other great riders.
Finishing in the top 5 in RVV is possible, otherwise we would be quite disappointed with Maaskant, Vansummeren and Haussler.
This might be close to impossible. Daniel Martin can win mountain stages but with his lack in the time trials he will lose a lot time there against Basso, Nibali or whoever rides the Giro.
We were really close last year with Farrar, but this year we will attack the green jersey again. With Haussler we have last years winner in our squad to reach this goal.
Lars Boom will try to win the Eneco Tour. He is quite perfect for this race and with a bit luck he wins it.
Top 10 in the Vuelta with Hesjedal should also be possible. in 2010 he was already 8th. Last year the field wasn`t that strong but nevertheless we placed 2 riders in the top 10.

But next to this races especially the Amgen Tour of California is very important for our main sponsor as it is the only big race in the USA. Therefore we will participate with last years Vuelta winner Sanchez.
Also Paris Nice is very important and hopefully Sanchez can win it once more again.

img7.imageshack.us/img7/3757/kalendars.jpg

As always the season starts in Down Under. Meyer and Bobridge will try to win the ITT championship while especially Haussler and Goss will try it in the road race. But as seen in the last years, also Bobridge, Lowe or Meyer can win this one. But that early in the season we don`t know anything about their fitness level.
With 7 Australians in our team, these guys will ride the Tour Down Under. Goss will be our leader with Haussler as lead out man. But depending on the form this can easily change.
Martin and Farrar will start the season in Calabria.
