Huge effort from Houle to it seems keep Borges from getting away by shutting down his move, a really tough GC leader's move from a sprinter It meant conceding more bonuses than I'd have liked to Tosh (who is still doing amazing which I love to see, maybe less so if he wins the GC ) and Yates given he finished in the first group and also only taking two on Kump which should have been more. Still, very happy to keep ochre another day and now a chance, albeit a small one given he's fighting off stronger sprinters, at the GC victory in Adelaide. Going to be a very nervous wait today for the final report!

Can't be disappointed in Claeys performance, looking set for a good GC. I hope this means Vesely is a free elf now for the final stage.
Congrats Gustav!

Good day four for Lay, but awful that none of our leaders was able to take anything from the GC.

Edmondson with a strong performance to hold onto 7th overall. Hopefully the sprinters don’t gain too many bonus seconds in the flat day tomorrow and cost us a GC position.

Okay, at least we'll get some minor points from the KOM-standing.
Great work by Jaramillo and Lavery.
But we seriously need to step up if we want to be in the promotion challenge |

5th by Drapac in the final stage - this counts for something at least. Overall points (if my calculations are correct): 6

With Tosh it tends to be his back-ups, at least based on previous seasons - he's incredibly difficult to drop, so if there aren't attacks on the final climb he'll normally hang on to the end of the group. Although I can't remember what Ackermann's support stats are like, so it may just be luck on my side
Nice ride from Turgis and Bettiol as well today. If the race was to finish with the GC as it is now I'd be very happy, but I expect Willunga will prove our undoing.
This post really showed the outcome in the end. He did exactly that on both climbs.
It clearly helped that all teams waited for Di Maggio to accelerate after his team prepared it with a steady pace, which was still acceptable for those weaker punchers.
But apparently Di Maggio doesn't like hill stages with too much flat and high pace as he clearly would prefer a lot more up and down all day. Similar to Schreurs, Claeys or Dowsett.
This way the punchy sprinters got advantaged as the high pace of mainly Borges came too late for bigger gaps.
Not having the exact points here bit iirc Gaviria pretty much dominated the individual ranking here with stage win, points competition and other standings while Farfetch dominated team wise with 2 high placed riders incl the winner as also Bettiol as great depth and team rankings.
Regarding Campari it would have been interesting to see Slagter as leader without Di Maggio, even though he clearly had preferred a bit more hybrid climbs.
Also Europcar had preferred more hybrid climbs. On such him parcours I feel Bjartne kind of got a lot of the race with 1-2 in KoM and 19th in the GC. Basically full team of 75-76 punchers but missing a leader.
Other than that a comment to Vesely. When starting the race I was happy to see him racing here as former rider. Then seeing he did not participate in springs when able to win, it was super frustrating, even more for Marco of course.
Seeing him work a lot for Claeys on the two hill stages sees him in a decent GC but this is far from his potential scoring here. So hopefully he will come back stronger in the next races.
Last but not least Edmondson being a great rider for BNZ. Nicely collecting bonus seconds to stay in front of couple stronger punchers and the second year in a row with a top performance. Unfortunately Gautier couldn't end his "prime" with another top performance. At last showing up regularly and scoring in the KoM. As 79 puncher though he also could have scored as top10 GC rider as Edmondson or Turgis have shown. |

Thanks roturn, last stage looks like Bouhanni was already ready to go home. Hopefully
not the new reality we have to get used to. Gratz to the winners!

Bit disappointing end to an otherwise decent race for Guarnieri. Train seemed to work fine and he was dropped off in a good position, but then must have had absolutely no power on the final meters. Should really have secured the points jersey, there.
Congrats to jph and thanks for the reports, roturn!

Well, that makes it acceptable! Let's hope Gaviria can leave the stress of the first win behind him now. All in all a bit unlucky but the point jersey is a nice bonus! But especially if you look at the winner there's still a slight disappointment because the thing I had in mind for Gaviria was definitely possible. What a win for Tosh Van der Sande, congrats Farfetch!
Thanks for the reports Roturn!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Wow, I really didn't see that coming
Amazing ride from Tosh here, and with Turgis 6th and Bettiol 14th plus a number of good stage placings, a stage win and the teams classification it's a dream start to the season for us. I make it 236 points, and you can't ever complain about a near 40 PPRD race!
When planning I truly expected this to be a race for the puncheurs, so to see the likes of Tosh and Gaviria hanging on was surprising. However, I guess the lower pace on the steeper sections of Willunga favoured them - would also explain why Di Maggio suffered if the pace was high on the sub 5% sections, meaning more reliance on the flat stat which ended up helping the high flat sprinters.
Thanks to roturn for fantastic reports as ever, and commiserations to jandal - Houle would have been a worthy winner. If anyone needs me I'll be busy celebrating what I think is only our 4th ever stage race win (Maillet in Tachira 2014, Mandri in La Tropicale 2014 and Yates in East Java 2018 off the top of my head), and hoping this is a sign of things to come |

Insane GC scoring by Farfetch. Aa very early reminder why they are one of the top favourites to promote. 1-6-14 is just insane! Congrats jph!
Also love to see Kump and Houle doing so well here. Two very cool riders and im glad to see them on the podium
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Ohhh crap, this didn't start too well for is. It was good tó see in every sprint stage the team át the front, biut its a shame the fading after that. Maybe with Lovassy involved can be better later. Thanks for the reports. |

Indeed what a result. Congrats jph, nice early result to an expectable great season.
Also congrats on the debut win, Olfardh. Gaviria's off to fulfill his potential it seems.
Very good race for us. The team worked well to protect and deliver our leader to the best of their abilities and Borges was perfect fulfilling that role, with that elusive win in such an iconic place as Willunga.
Thanks once again for the reports roturn. Pace and quality all-in-one!

I hope it is only this race with bad AI for Vesely. Him and Claeys race together in Southland again, but the flat profiles are more flat there so hopefully the game works with two leaders.
Claeys falling down to 12th due to bonus seconds, nothing you can do about. Not overly happy with the result but at least we got some points. Selander 20th in the GC also brings some extra points.
Congrats jph! Thanks roturn for the reports!

We will take 5th for Yates. Suprisingly enough, that's his best GC finish in a stage race since joining us here at Desigual. Things are looking up for him, although wins are going to be hard to come by if he is running into Kump and Houle every time.
Svab with a suprise U25 victory to capture our first jersey win of the young season. Never would have predicted that.
Congrats to all the winners and thanks for the reports roturn!

Amazing race for Farfetch, congrats! Van der Sande definitely not one being really high on the favorites list - not even on the manager's, apparently - but well done!
Other than that, good to see Wippert on the podium in a C1 race - I think both Scully and especially Reinhardt should be able to do so as well now All in all, BNZ surely with a good result here, two stage podiums and a GC Top 10 is definitely nice for a CT team

Congrats to JPH, but ngl I am a bit dissapointed in the last two sprints from Kump. Being in with a GC push and straight up not top 10'ing is just sad. At the end of the day a stage win and 3rd in GC will be valuable scoring, and is a good start to our campaign.

3rd on the final day plus 8th overall. Not a bad TDU from the boys. Hopefully that delivers some nice points for us.
Congrats to the winner and thanks for the reports!!

Two in the top 10 at GC, it would be difficult to ask for more or better. Silvestre always very active and consistent in the sprints and also Paulinho very active in the most important stage. Luis Afonso with the 21th also ends up collecting a few more points for the team.
Congrats to the winner and thanks for the reports!!
