A three year deal for a thirty seven year old, they must have a lot of faith in him
Indeed. I mean, he's shown he can defy the age curve by adjusting his rider style so far, but the chances of that happening again are low, so any decline means a lack of scoring. Certainly they know they aren't getting the same Gilbert who won the Ardennes Triple for them, but I'm sure they know that. I'm confident they'll at least get a serviceable classics riders for all three of those years though.

Deal was made in the first week of le Tour iirc. Not getting a selection made him leave and Lotto already knew they would be losing Benoot (after Roelandts and Debusschere) so they need a new cobbler.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Could very well be that there is a clause where he can go into another role at the team should retirement push earlier.

So this is interesting.
A gravel time trial to the summit of Mount Edna is apparently an option for the 2020 Giro. https://www.cyclist.co.uk/news/6896/g...86wHE5qLzU

Fuglsang re-signs with Astana for 2020-2021. Alexander Kamp will take the step from PCT to the WT with Trek-Segafredo on a two year deal as well.

It's rumoured that Carapaz crashed today on training ride. Unsure at this point but if so he may not start the race from what I've heard..

And confirmed, Carapaz out of the Vuelta. Not in training, in a post-Tour crit this sunday (didn't even know those were still on). Get ready for an hilarious Movistar again.

As expected, Marcel Kittel retires from cycling. Still feel sad for him for when he did his absolute best to survive the mountains and win the green jersey, only to crash out in the last week.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A few years ago I could never have imagined Kittel would retire before Cav and Greipel.

Well hope he can live a good life, age 31 - its okay to retire. On the sportive side he has been always the most one dimensiona guy in the sport but boy, did he know how to win a sprint in his time.

They should just fill the void with Landa to troll Nairito.

That's a very good deal for them to sign the biggest german GT prospect by far but I hope he progresses faster than Buchmann or Konrad. Those guys took ages until at least Buchmann became a serious GC contender, Konrad is still not there. Yates brothers and Bernal have been much faster in that regard.
