Yes, you are right. The current season has the maximum weight, with last season being of lower weight and the season before that having minimum weight. The rankings use points of the last three years (not seasons in case we are mid-season) in reducing weight format like the irl FIFA rankings.

Alright cool... Maybe the weighting should be considered changed a bit then I think. Not that I want to be the best team, but if we look at the past 3 season from an objective perspective we have probably been the best performing team. With Moser ever so slightly behind - og just marginally better.

2019
1 Puma 8.410
2 Moser 7.395
3 Festina 6.316

2018
1 Festina 8.042
2 Moser 7.569
7 Puma 5.607

2017
1 Festina 8.315
2 Moser 6.666
6 Puma 6.340

Total without any weighted results:
1 Festina 22.673 = 7.558
2 Moser 21.630 / 3 = 7.210
3 Puma 20.357 / 3 = 6.786

So despite Puma being 772 points behind, they are still decided to be 328 points ahead, which is a total of 1.100 points. I know they beat me by the double (almost), but I feel like it's a bit too much towards current state rather than actually looking back in time too.

I really like the standings, but would prefer it if the more consistent performing teams are actually on top, rather than focussing too much on current season.

Puma with positions 1, 6 and 7 really shouldn't be fighting against 1, 1, 3 or 2, 2, 2 IMO... And the three year base suggests this too.

I get your point but in all sports which have a ranking the recent results are given the most weight when deciding world rankings. That was the logic that I followed.

Changing the formula won't take any time, but I'm not really sure I'd want to give points scored three seasons ago a higher weightage. I mean my team didn't even exist three seasons ago, but I'm now higher than 22 other teams according to the standings, which isn't a bad reflection of how we've done. Look at the more extreme Delvaux who've had just one season but currently definitely deserve to be higher than teams who've been mid or low table for three years in the CT.

Having said all this, I'll take a look at the weights again before next season starts, but if anything changes it'll only be a slightly higher weight for the past season rather than giving too much to two seasons past.

MG World Ranking

The MG World Rankings is back for the new season. We pick up where we left off at the end of last season to bring you the rankings of the Teams and Riders at the start of this season, and how things have changed now that we've completed three of the 2019 season.

MG Team World Ranking - Start of 2019
Moser ended 2018 as the team at the top of the standings, followed very closely by Puma, on the back of an excellent 2018 season. Festina still hold good for their previous successes to remain in 3rd place overall.

MG Rider World Ranking - After March
Bewley retains his top spot with Spilak in 2nd. Ponzi overtakes Phinney for 3rd. Schleck suffers the biggest fall inside the Top 10. In the Top 50, Ewan and Beltran make up the most positions. Despite his team's promotion, Ulissi is the biggest drop in rankings inside the Top 50. Ginanni too, is worth mentioning, having lost 16 positions, to now fall out of the Top 50.

Cool to see Wisniowski climbing upwards! Now that Bewley and Ponzi will decline after this season and Spilak already have started, it will be cool if Phinney manages to take the top spot. At least for a while, before Herklotz takes total control the next five-six seasons afterwards Pfft

MG World Rankings

MG Team World Ranking - After June
We have a new leader at the top of the World Rankings! Puma edge out Moser to become the new World No. 1, with Festina still occupying 3rd place. Gazelle ride on their great season so far to enter the Top 5 for the first time. Aegon edeg out Vesuvio just beyond the Top 5. Evonik is the biggest drop in the top division, losing five positions this season. Indosat, despite their difficult season so far, still climb 8 positions courtesy increased points scored in the PT. Generali, also on the back of a superb season, rise 6 spots. Air France, Isostar and SPAR are the other significant climbers.

Volvo and UBS maintain their positions despite the drop down to PCT. Duolingo, on the other hand, take a fall of 8 places. Iberia and Carlsberg fall 7 places, and this despite remaining in the same division. Philips and Europcar are not far behind them, falling 6 spots as a result of a disappointing season for both so far. The major climber in the PCT are Campari, who've gained 11 spots after a superb first half of the season. cycleYorkshire are the biggest climbers, moving up 9 places, among those who remained in the PCT after last season.

In the CT, just four teams have gained spots, while Netia, Euskaltel and NENT drop in the rankings, despite now being leading contenders for a rebound promotion, after suffering relegation last time around. Azteca, CYBEX and Zalgiris are the top climbers, with Eddie Stobart once again falling down the rankings.

MG Rider World Ranking - After June
We have a new leader here as well! Herklotz's consistent dominance over the last season and a half narrowly puts him ahead of Spilak and Bewley as the top rider in the world. Taaramae follows the top trio closely, with a larger gap behind the Aker rider. Kritsky, Dan Martin, Ewan and Hirt make the biggest jumps inside the Top 50.

Great job - Thanks for the update.

I can't really understand how Coquard can keep on climbing the rankings, when he is doing significantly worse this season than the last...

Three riders in top 50 is OK I guess. Kastrantas in top 200 is just amazing though! He definately doesn't have the stats to that Grin - According to his OVL he should be around 500.

Lecuisinier is in 27th, while according to his OVL he should be around top 15 so he definately need to perform well in the TdF to climb further. Coquard is exactly where he should be though. But will obviously drop quite far back in the coming seasons.

Koretzky doing slightly better than he should, but in general I think these rankings match up quite well with the OVL of my riders.

they come in approximately the correct order, and isn't too far off. Maxime Daniel will drop badly but is still around where he should be - as is Bongiorno who performs better now that previous season (where he was a domestique though)...

Vlatos is looking to be one of those hit the hardest though. He usually racks up around 350-450 points. This season he is set to land at 150-180... And he even won significantly more than he usually does. The GC results for him is, however, completely gone.

@SotD: Regarding Coquard, he's still rising because of two reasons mainly. Firstly, because there's still quite a lot of influence from July - October last season, which could be pushing his numbers up. If he doesn't live up to those performances in the same period this season, then he is likely to drop. Secondly, if you see those around him that have dropped - Van Avermaet and Bobridge, and also Alarcon, have not lived up to the last couple of seasons, Amador and Coppel are getting lesser points in PCT, and are thus dropping. So these could be the reasons.

Cool

This will be printed out and put on a wall or something.
I dreamed of a success and consistency like this one day back when I got accepted into the MG 8 years ago, but I never really believed days like these would actually come, especially with my approach to team-building.

Thank you for your great effort!!

MG Rider World Ranking - 2019 Final
Bewley climbs back to the top of the individual standings after losing it halfway through the season to Herklotz. The German ends the season as the second best rider in the world. I appreciate still being considered a PT team, but only if you donate us the extra budget quickly before the first races get posted Pfft

7th place is cool to see, but I fear it will be the highest position for quite some years for us! Hope Wisniowski can take the step in to the top 10 this season.

These rankings looked far better for Evonik a year ago and it's time to get back to higher positions in both team and individual rankings Grin

MG World Rankings

After a bit of a break the past few months, the MG World Rankings are back after the latest Rankings update posted for all divisions. Once again, a big thank you to the admins and everyone involved in reporting and the rankings calculations and posting, without which these rankings would not be possible.

MG Team World Rankings - May 2020
There's a new leader at the top of team standings, with Festina's resurgence back into the title fight puts them at the top of the rankings. Moser's consistency brings them up to 2nd. Puma and Gazelle haven't had a great season so far, and see themselves drop down from the top two positions at the end of last season. Evonik's lead in the PT standings translates to a 7 position improvement and up to 6th place in the table. On the other end of the spectrum, Air France and Aegon's poor seasons see them drop, with Indosat also subject to the same fate among PT teams. ISA ties Evonik as the biggest risers so far this season.

Mapei is the best placed PCT team, despite dropping a position, while it is Andorra with the largest jump up the standings among PCT teams, closely followed by MOL. Fablok's relegation and struggles see them drop five positions while Berg, Kraftwerk and Campari drop four spots each.

Centovalli make the biggest jump among CT teams, with Philips and Europcar going the other way, the latter duo feeling the effects of relegation quite hard in these standings. Tryg is the only other CT repeating team to have improved. Among the new teams, Los Pollos have had the best start.

Didn't expect to be ever leading this one again Smile - Really nice after having cut all leaders that wasn't Festina-made. Lecuisinier with a huge jump and Koretzky and even bigger one with only Coquard dropping ever so slightly.

Both Koretzky and Lecuisinier will drop in the remaining part of the season obviously with Koretzky being through the high point races and Lecuisinier done altogether.
