Doubt it. Them's the rules.

No clue, but I very much doubt he'd stand a chance if he did. He knew the rules, he just didn't follow them, no matter why. |

That's a shame, an appeal wouldn't do much good though, he did violate the rules.

The Clásica de San Sebastián and the Vuelta al PaÃs Vasco are in serious danger, or, at least, their WT status is.

When all top riders prepare for the top races in the top-clean air in China, some race must yield. And Spaniards only caused trouble in the last weeks, so why not choose these two?

Sacha Modolo, Marco Coledan and 3 other riders where shot at by an air gun from a car passing on the opposite side of the road
None of them where seriously hurt, though.

I'm going to be honest here. I would be so disgusted I'd stop watching cycling, probably permanently

It's a cash machine, UCI gets the money where they can. If organisers from non-traditional cycling countries can afford to pay more to get a world tour status, even though nobody cares about cycling in their country, then they'll get the WT status instead of the traditional races. Plus Europe is particularly indebted these so they can hardly invest more money in than they already do.
Some bright aspects though : a good surprise is always possible and those exotic races may turn out to offer interesting roads. Plus they might not last. Once they'll have gotten the exposure (and paid heavily for it), they might realise that maintaining the investment is isn't going to bring anything more (not more exposure, no profitability, so they'll likely quit after a while). |

Seems the story is rumbiling on.

For San Sebastien especially I can't really believe it....though I felt exactly the same way about the Championships of Zurich a few years back, which doesn't really bode well.
In this age of the superteam, you'd think a few team owners could have their arms twisted into stumping up a bit of cash..... |

The situation is quite complicated for both races I'm afraid. I guess the UCI could use that fund they used last year to save the GP Plouay, although I doubt it'd be enough, but even in case it was, what about next year?
The problem is that the Spanish races rely, sadly (and disgustingly), too much on public funds, so it was expected that the financial crisis would cause a lot of them to disappear, as had already happened with the Euskal Bizikleta, Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana or the Urkiola Igoera.
All these deaths (or shortenings) of races make me wonder though, when some team owners talk about "sharing the TV revenues", what the hell are they talking about?

I don't know why, but I found this interesting about Voeckler.

I think it's true that many riders don't like Voeckler. I remember an interview with Kroon, where he stated that Voeckler is always showing off in front of the camera. Making weird faces like he's very tired, always trying to get attention. Former teammate Clement also stated this in an interview. I also heard Gesink saying something like this in an interview.
From a cyclingfan's point of view I can understand why almost everybody likes him. He attacks a lot and he can make boring stages interesting. But most riders don't seem to like him.

True. I read on Eurosport.fr a couple of days ago, that Boonen was mad at him and punched him in the back (whilst cycling) because he attacked on a day that the peloton had decided to take it easy. That piss a lot of riders, but what, that's nothing illegal, and as he won't outsprint a sprinter or drop a puncher uphill (or a climber in a mountain) he has to attack from far, whenever he thinks that tactic stands a chance.
I won't blame it for that, although I understand why other riders don't like it.
As for the weird faces, I can remember Gilbert and Chavanel escaped together on a TDF stage that Haussler would later win. Peloton was coming back, and Chavanel said to Gilbert : "let's make tired faces, the peloton will slow down and we'll have a chance". Sadly for them there was not only a camera but also a microphone, so the peloton didn't slow down. Fact is if you look tired, your opponents will be more confident, sometimes too much. Voeckler can hardly win a race on sheer strength, so he has to use tricks like that. |

A friend of mine went to school with a danish pro rider, and I once asked him about Voeckler. He also said, that he is generally unliked in the peloton, because he is weird and very arrogant.

Kolobnev cleared to ride by the CAS, arbitration court rejects almost all of the UCI appeal, so free to ride again. I guess Saxo is a good place for him.

Must say, the entire process here was so much better than with Contador. Suspended right away, and no racing, even though he was cleared by the Russians.

Surely it will be Katusha?
