Continuity For Evonik - ELKO

Evonik - ELKO continues for another season. After joining the professional cycling circuit in 2014 and promoting to PT for the 2016 season, the team is heading into its 12th season - the 10th consecutive season in the highest level of cycling.

One key factor for success has been the continuity and stability, having been sponsored by German chemistry company Evonik since its beginning. The ELKO Group, a Latvian distributor of IT and electronics products, joined for the team's second season and stayed loyal ever since.

Following a strong season with plenty of highlights, none of the sponsors saw any reason to cancel their commitment to the project. The belief in the team to be visible and succesful in the biggest races is unbroken. Full list of returning sponsors can be found below:

Jan Polanc and Krists Neilands: Polanc has been an outstanding leader for us for the last couple of years. We think he would play a dominant role particulatly in a CT or PCT team and would prefer that over a slowly diminishing role in a double leadership with Neilands. We are open to the idea of keeping Polanc and selling Neilands but with the suspected transfer fees in mind, the clear idea in our mind is that we are keeping Neilands instead.

Eriks Toms Gavars: We like him and we dont mind keeping him. But considering how short our selling list is, he would be the first option to open up more cap space or get a few extra bucks for transfer fees or training.

Martins Blums: He has been the latvian face of the team for a couple of years and still is young enough to be that for a couple more years. But we had some really high valued interest in him over the years and with Krasts ready to take on a more prominent role in the future, we would be ready to look around for alternatives if we get a big time offer. Just dont expect him to be particularly cheap.

Everyone else: We like them, we like their wages, we have a big role in mind for them and expect them to stay. We welcome you to try but it would be very expensive to make us consider a sale.

Yeah, not a very interesting availability list I guess - at least if I had not released Theuns Pfft Might get in touch for one of the cobblers, given how dry the market is for them. But the other "pretty available" rider would also be a great fit to further strengthen our GT lineup depth Smile

Good luck for transfers, will be interesting once again to find out what your plans are, with neither PHL nor MAL training eligible anymore and Plapp not yet ^^

Despite a likely lack of compatibility in transfer availabilities, I'm sure we'll talk. We always do, and I look forward to it!

Fabianski - I'm looking forward to hear from you. Cobbler market looks quite thin, feels like its a terrain where fewer good options came up in the years without a ton of talents added.

bbl - You know im always happy to talk no matter how unrealistic it looks that a deal could happen. Looking at your roster and availabilites i also figured that a trade between us might be rather unlikely but i'm still looking forward to talking Wink

I expect some creative solutions from you once again to get to the minimum amount of riders - and maybe I'll be part of that in search for a cobbles leader.

Plapp not being completely untouchable is welcome news, even if he were to come with an unspeakable price tag Smile Curious what your plans will be moving forward with him with Lecuisinier's first decrease coming next season also.

Surely Dversnes hasn’t much of an impact on his availability? Excited to talk lots with you again, and I can guarantee Dversnes will be part of the conversation too, just like every year Grin Pfft

I agree, Plapp should probably go to PCT, honestly. Pfft

kandes - Oh the creative ideas are there for sure. Whether they can be realized and end up being the best options is the question Grin

eden - i dont have a price tag in mind and doubt anyone would be stupid enough to pay that Pfft

ember - Sorry to disappoint you but i struggle to see a scenario where Dversnes will be available. And i promise you that you wouldnt be the only messaging me if i gave any hints of availability for him Grin

bbl - Well, if a PCT team has some way of offering me a Lecuisinier package for him, then im open to enjoying him in PCT too Pfft

Good enough renewals I believe, with the availability list of expected lines. Looking forward to the moves in the transfer window Smile

Not too surprised to see the availability list, but it's still sad to see Evonik moving so far away from being a strong cobbled side. Polanc have kept the tradition in awe briliantly despite not having top stats, and he's likely still a great pickup for whoever decides to go with him. I'm sure there will be enough interest. I guess Neilands is good enough to sneak a couple of lower end top 10's during the season by himself also.

A bit sad to see riders like Gavars coming out with a wage that gives an incentitive to consider selling him, but I have the same situation with a couple of riders. Interesting that you have managed to seal Krasts for less that Gavars though. That doesn't really make any sense. The +2HI to Gavars is clearly the trigger in OVL, but I definately see Krasts as the better overall rider already. Well done on that wage. Or maybe critique to myself for giving 4K more to Karatsivis Grin

Abhishek - I'm very happy with my renewals. My key riders have basically accepted rather friendly deals and only some of my 50k riders are slightly more expensive than i would have hoped.

SotD - I'm not happy about losing the cobbles side either but once Plapp fell into my lap after acquiring Lecuisinier and Lopez, there just wasnt really the option to build up a Polanc heir already and hadnt found better value options than Polanc and Neilands. I will surely try to get a new cobbles leader in the future but right now, i dont really see many options available to me. Hopefully that changes in the post Big2 era.

WORLD CHAMPION

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/Others/WC/RR/PCM0070.png

Urquhart Castle, Scotland. World Championships 2025. Elite Road Race.

The cycling world was anticipating a thrilling race with a wide open fight for the rainbow jersey. One of the favourites: Miguel Angel Lopez. The race started with 50km to go when Thomas Pidcock started the action with his first attack from the group of favourites. A long list of attack by world class stage racers and puncheurs alike followed. But when it all came back to a large group, one final ascend up a steep wall would decide the race. Colombian Egan Bernal lead out Miguel Angel Lopez into the climb and Lopez kept the lead all the way to the end of the race to win the world championship titel ahead of Mauro Schmid and Attila Valter. Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier finished 4th.

Huge ride from MAL really did it the hard way on the final climb considering he has Schmid in his wheel and Valter taking a slingshot off Arreuya it was a well deserved win

Congratulations knockout! Perfect victor on this course, and really must be nice to get with a homegrown rider who kind of reshaped your entire team identity. Looking forward to seeing MAL in rainbow!

Still loads of roster space for you to make moves and pickup those key loan ins you always seem to get, will be interesting to see who you go for to make another title push.

Big congratulations on the win! I still remember when you got MAL, this is a great chapter in the history of MAL on Evonik
