Bayern Rundfahrt Discussion
Imladrik
We’re in Bayern today, for the twelfth edition of the Rundfahrt. A four stages race, with two individual time-trials, one of them being over 40 kilometers – and it’s the opener! Between these stages, a flattish stage which should not disturb the sprinters too much, and a mountain rated stage, which should favor the more explosives of the climbers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/t0_bayern.jpg

Last year winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ino.png Dunbar comes back here with Indosat Ooredoo. He’s the only one of the former winners to be here, if I’m not mistaken.

Let’s see whether he’s one of the favorites.

Well, the Irishman sure is back as one of the favorites! He might suffer in the mountains against the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/min.png Cattaneo, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png Haig or veteran pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ziz.png Taaramäe, but he still might have this capacity to make the last climb hard enough. In any case, it’s the time-trials which will decide on the final result, and the first day should already give some indications.

Two stages are for the specialists, if they don’t have too heavy legs after the mountainous one. Behind the best of them, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png Durbridge, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy brings in two contenders with Paillot and Gonzalez Salas. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gct.png Kittel comes back after winning the opening stage in 2019, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Rekita will try to bring glory to CT.

Not so strong a field for an HC race, one could think! More so when you see that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/sva.png Strava brings three men in this list with Bouhanni, Colbrelli and Sanikwathi. We’ll have to see whether they can make a winning train. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/stb.png Willwohl is the best representative of the CT.

Given the amount of TT kilometers, we obviously must expect Durbridge to win at least one stage here. That's surely a goal here.

Also Haig obviously must be considered a GC contender. He hasn't exactly done the best possible results this year (still a consistent delivery of scoring results), so it would be nice to get something big here. Anything but the podium would be kinda disappointing, even though we probably can live with "low key" results at this point of the season.

Thanks for the preview!

Fabianski
One of Mäder's rare chances to lead us this year. He did very well in California - but that was C2. Nonetheless, it looks like this might be our best HC scoring opportunity of the year, having contenders for every stage and the GC. It could also completely backfire, like it did in Hallstatt, Wallonie and mostly in Poland. A Top15 would be great, plus a couple of decent stage results. Rekita is yet to win a TT in a stage race Pfft

Thanks for the preview!

We're going down for 0 points here I am pretty sure, looking forward to watching the action unfold tho! Maybe Quin Hermans can produce some breakaway miracles again!

Hope for Habtemichael to have some great days on the TT bike but unsure if it's possible. Houle hasn't been on his game sprinting this season but obviously would love a stage win if it's possible Grin

Really deep field here! Thanks for the preview Imladrik, looking forward to it even if it could be dire for us Pfft

This is our win goal. A win is very unlikely, so we'll shelve that.

Kamna's last big race of the season. On paper, it suits him perfectly. Two long TT's and a mountain stage, but the mountain stage shouldn't provide super tremendous gaps. However, the competition is tough, especially as far as climbers go. And Kamna hasn't been amazing in TT's generally this year. So if he has another dud, it will be a colossal failure. It's a big race for us in the promotion hunt, so we have to hope for the best.

Penasa did fine where last season but the field is stronger this time and will be harder for us to get something. Need the mountain stage to be very selective for it to help us. Expectations are lower after the seeing the startlist, so whatever we can get from here will be a bonus.

Thanks for the preview Imlaridk Smile

This race could again be the difference between survival and relegation for us. Dunbar put on probably the best ride an Indosat rider has ever done to win here in that TT last season. I don’t expect him to do it again, but we are in desperate need of a top-5 result - anything else could be our death knell.

And such a strong field - Cattaneo and Haig the big threats from a MT perspective, considering both can back it up in the TT department. Conci and Kamna the clones. Reis and Shikai not far behind, with riders like Dennis hanging around. The MT stage doesn’t usually throw up huge gaps, so we have to hope Dunbar doesn’t have a bad day and can keep up and limit his losses to the big climbers. He’s done well in TT’s so far this season, can only hope that continues. So anxious for this race, if we fail and a few teams have a big ToA we are in trouble.

Thank you for the preview, it was a good read Smile

Certainly not a bad start for Kamna with this deep a field, but also not amazing. Gained a bit of time on some better climbers, but not enough to be comfortable. Honestly, I expected slightly bigger gaps given the length. I wonder what they'll be like on stage 4, which is shorter but comes after more exertion.

Deserved win for Paillot, congrats!

Expect start for us. TTing has never been our strongest suit. Looks like Dunbar is going to have a good race, which I like since he's a very likeable rider.

Hopefully GVK goes into the break tomorrow.

Well, Rekita continues to disappoint in stage races - I guess every tiny road bump is too much for him.
On the other hand, Mäder did a good job - although losing almost a minute to Rikunov feels... weird. If he performs like a 77Mo climber on day 3, a Top 15 or even lower Top 10 should be possible, but we'll see. Up to Stepniak to get us some stage points tomorrow, given that his compatriot was unable to do so today.

Congrats to Assa Abloy, Paillot definitely made great use of his skillset on that profile. And thanks for the report to Imladrik.
