Berlin ProRace
Welcome to Germany, welcome for the ninth edition of the Berlin Prorace! It’s the third sprint classic of the month for several riders, as some of them were also there in Finland and Latvia. Unlike the other German sprint classic last month in Frankfurt, this one’s actually flat. 190 kilometres will be conquered by the PCT and CT teams at the start tomorrow, let’s have a look at the sprinters who made the trip to Germany.
| FLAT | SPR | ACC | STA | RES | Lo Cicero | 72 | 84 | 78 | 71 | 63 | Ewan | 75 | 83 | 81 | 73 | 71 | Guerao | 74 | 83 | 76 | 71 | 64 | Avelino | 70 | 82 | 77 | 69 | 65 | Maksimov | 72 | 81 | 84 | 70 | 69 | Nelson | 72 | 81 | 81 | 70 | 64 | Kump | 74 | 81 | 80 | 76 | 73 | Manninen | 74 | 81 | 80 | 71 | 75 | Guarnieri | 75 | 81 | 80 | 76 | 75 | Zabel | 74 | 81 | 79 | 74 | 70 | Saber | 75 | 81 | 79 | 74 | 72 | Cavendish | 71 | 81 | 78 | 71 | 68 | Ciolek | 73 | 81 | 76 | 70 | 66 | Boeckmans | 72 | 80 | 82 | 73 | 70 | Itami | 75 | 80 | 82 | 71 | 67 | Bonifazio | 79 | 80 | 80 | 68 | 75 | Kemboi | 78 | 80 | 80 | 74 | 77 | Keukeleire | 72 | 80 | 79 | 73 | 68 | Haller | 72 | 80 | 79 | 72 | 71 | Drapac | 71 | 80 | 79 | 70 | 65 | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 80 | 78 | 75 | 72 | Reinhardt | 71 | 79 | 84 | 73 | 66 | Awang | 64 | 79 | 83 | 67 | 62 | Selig | 71 | 79 | 81 | 73 | 68 | Lay | 73 | 79 | 81 | 68 | 66 | Scully | 74 | 79 | 80 | 66 | 70 | Rowe | 78 | 79 | 80 | 76 | 70 | Perera | 71 | 79 | 80 | 69 | 73 |
Lo Cicero is without a doubt the fastest sprinter. The problem for him is he usually struggles to reach his top speed, which is shown by his lack of results this season. Ewan on the other hand has had a more stable season. Then we find our first Oscar on the list in former winner Guerao. The Zalgiris rider will probably have a hard time reaching the podium with his acceleration problems, but you never know what his Lithuanian doctor gives him before the race. The second Oscar then comes in the name of Avelino. Just like the other one, he is a fast guy who struggles with his acceleration and doesn’t have the best physical capacities. Maksimov is already the second MOL rider on the list and seems to be a safer bet for a good result, looking at this year’s sprints. Will the MOL DS agree, or will both riders even be able to ride for themselves? We will know tomorrow. Nelson should once again be the final guy in the Podium Ambition train.
He’s done well in an HC stage race and he’s done well in a PTHC cobbled stage race, but is Kump able to get a decent result tomorrow? As the main leader of Nordstrom, his manager will sure be counting on it. Manninen is one of the most successful sprinters of this season, he will be looking to continue his good streak tomorrow. Guarnieri has had a special month. Absolutely worthless in Hanko to then degrade the competition in Latvia. He has won the first HC sprint classic of the year, so he might be a good bet tomorrow as well. Zabel hasn’t convinced us so far this season. If he wants to make sure his team keeps him if they promote to to the PT, then he should really start impressing manager Heine a bit more. What better way to do that than to win in their home country?
Saber will be in Berlin together with teammate Boeckmans. Their races together can go two ways it seems. The first time it went really well, with the two of them scoring good points. In Hanko they didn’t reach the same heights though, so it’ll be interesting to see how Swisslion acts tomorrow. Cavendish and Ciolek will represent the class of 1986. While the Brit has been getting some decent results, the German has had a season to forget. This might even be his last season as a professional cyclist, so hopefully he can get a result to remember on home soil. Itami the next name on the list, and boy has he been succesfull the last weeks. Not only did he have a great Cheshire Cycling Tour, he also came very close to the win in Latvia. Taking in mind those results and his recent form, the Japanese should be a dark horse for the win tomorrow.
Then we find the name of Bonifazio. We don’t know what exactly is going on behind the scenes, but the Lierse rider has been refusing to sprint in many races this season. The only thing I can say is that I hope things will change soon. We find a very similar rider in Kemboi just below him. Unlike the Italian, the Kenyan champion has actually had a strong season so far. Adastra has brought both Drapac and Canelon for tomorrow’s sprint, it will be interesting to see who takes the lead there as well. Van Asbroeck got a great podium place in Latvia, he will also be looking to continue his streak of positive results. Then we can find the two sprinters of the CT teams here, as both Centovalli – Fiat and Bralirwa – Stevens Bikes brought a German sprinter to hopefully score them a nice amount of points. Who will win the CT battle? Reinhardt or Selig? Other sprinters that will be the leaders of their team tomorrow include Awang, Lay and Rowe.
There is always the small chance of a (late) attacker taking the win. Let’s have a look at the best rouleurs.
| FLAT | SPR | ACC | STA | RES | Bonifazio | 79 | 80 | 80 | 68 | 75 | Brockhoff | 79 | 62 | 73 | 74 | 76 | Mundle | 79 | 59 | 69 | 69 | 73 | Kemboi | 78 | 80 | 80 | 74 | 77 | Rowe | 78 | 79 | 80 | 76 | 70 | Vanbilsen | 78 | 72 | 71 | 80 | 74 | Mas | 78 | 71 | 78 | 66 | 71 | Summerhill | 78 | 70 | 73 | 76 | 72 | Veyhe | 78 | 56 | 78 | 65 | 69 | Lander | 77 | 79 | 77 | 77 | 72 | Canelon | 77 | 78 | 83 | 65 | 69 | Breen | 77 | 73 | 72 | 72 | 72 | Biermans | 77 | 66 | 67 | 71 | 74 | Varga | 77 | 65 | 80 | 76 | 73 | Aaltio | 77 | 61 | 61 | 66 | 71 |
Some of the names on the list have already been mentioned in the sprinters list. Others on the list will be used as domestiques for sprinters mentioned in that list. The rouleurs who should enjoy the most freedom of their team are Mas, Summerhill and Varga.
Everyone still expects a mass sprint though. Below is the entire startlist of the Berlin ProRace, good luck to everyone!

Come on Guarnieri! Not too many chances for him left this season, so need to make the most of it here to stay in the promotion battle.
Nice preview! Looking forward to the report

I'm absolutely frothing for a late Rowe attack here

I'd like Naesen to join him, please
Selig might do something if he's in the mix for the sprint, but I wouldn't be shocked if he isn't. Or maybe even Habtom does something for once. But no expectations for this one, especially as it's a HC race.

Most likely the same thing will happen again. Saber is gonna be a rouleur and attack with 3 km to go. But will this score us any meaningful points, who knows?
Thanks for the preview

Pretty sure we got away with Naesen once last year and stuck it to the end so it's fine by me

Probably the last chance for Bonifazio to redeem himself.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Welcome to the current state of this season, where i'm happier for Ewan to get a low Top10 than anything else. Will give enough points to keep us on track for survival, but will keep him slipping down the rankings so we get a better renewal next year
In fact i'm really going after the random puncture for Caleb so we end up using Ricki/Kek as free-lancers in the finish! We've always been slightly out-there in our MG approach, we might be taking it too far with this plan...

Need Guerao to get a top 10 here as he will have to be a somewhat consistent scorer in his remaining races to keep us in mid table. Or hes FIRED

This might be the most stacked sprinter field we're facing this year. And objectively, expectations can't be too high. However, Reinhardt has shown both in DUC and in Barbados that he can't be ruled out by any means. Repeating his 4th place from the season opener would be huge, but any points will be welcome in an HC race.
Thanks for the preview, and in general for the amazing work you're doing this season, Nemo!

Hoping for a good result from Zabel. Always gotta believe in the (debunked) national bonus!

9th and 30th is totally fine by me. Not quite 20 pprd, but as long as Guerao consistently gets close we should be fine.

Yeah, let's sprint with Vanbilsen and Biermans so Bonifazio can sit in the back and doesn't have to do anything.
I mean at this point sprints have just become so broken it's unplayable. I could get that Bonifazio is badly positioned and finishes outside the top 20. I could even get that we're not sprinting at all (even though the game considers him to be a 2 star favourite), that happened before. But it's just like he's not there and the AI thinks Vanbilsen and Biermans are my best sprinters.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Points! 10 of them, even! What a nice surprise, after I didn't see Selig in any of the sprint screen shots. Also, thanks Nemo for acknowledging the German side of our team, and to Mugisha and Chokri for attacking appropriately.

I didn't expect us to build a train with Saber and Marin for Boeckmans in this field of sprinters. I didn't work great, but it didn't work bad either. It was alright
I would've taken 5th by Boeckmans pretty much everytime and Saber gets a pretty good 12th place after doing a leadout. This is a good result and one we needed badly!
Congrats hoyle, Itami is fantastic this year
Thanks for yet another report Nemo

Ewan is the best lead-out man in the MG
Caleb picked up too many individual points with 4th, but as Kek & Ricki did not do that well it at least keeps us on track for survival.
@Ollfardh - I'll happily take Bonifazio off your hands I still want more sprinters!

Reinhardt has turned out to be a total beast, and at this point I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous.
