CycloCross Season 2018/2019
Yellow Jersey
Tomorrow marks the begining of the cyclo-cross season in Geraardsbergen for the BricoCross series, Van Aert will headline it and basically everybody will be there except for MDVP.

Van der Poel will also miss the first 2 WC rounds in the US, which will give good chances to others of getting the WC title this year.

Kevin Pauwels as twice former winner not even making the poll anymore, but I do hope he can get one more good season.

A lot will depend on Van Aert's 2019 team, if he moves to Lotto already, he's not allowed to cyclocross anymore. Roompot will keep him in the field, but he already stated he didn't like the way the takeover was handled.

Quinten Hermans impressed on the road this year, will be interesting to see if he can carry this over to the cyclocross.

As for the poll, I think Mathieu can miss two races and still win it.

VDP did some nonstop racing this year with MTB and road races. I am wondering how he will handle the fatigue later in the CX season, that may be a hinderance for another world title.

Perhaps the last season that we get to see VDP and Van Aert rivarly at its height. Hope I can catch some races this time around.

Pawels was indeed consistent but he was never really up there was he? I don't remember exactly but he doesn't seem to have the same punch now, age is weighing on him. Merlier and van Kessel were both very strong in the last part of the season, and Hermans was too, adding the amazing road season he's had I think he'll have more to show than Pawels, with all due respect Smile

van Aert has already announced his full calendar for the season, he will be in all WC rounds, plus a mix of some other race series (don't think he'll fully complete any serie though), and yeah with a slightely reduced excitement for the road I think he'll be more motivated to perform here.

This is very important also. I dont think he'll feel the fatigue but for that giving up on the first two rounds may be the only solution.
It's why I chose van Aert, with a little doubt that if he doesn't perform, I expect Aerts to win it.

Pauwels was amongst the best in his peak years, but never won a jersey. He did win some nice races, but I don't see that happening again. Podium should be possible though, if he won't be as crap as last year.

Van Aert's calendar might change if he manages to make the transfer to Lotto happen earlier, which I think is a likely possibility still.

And so it happened, van Aert terminated his conctract with Verandas Willems/Sniper Cycling/Roompot. No idea what his next move will be yet.

And a small update: van Aert confirms through his attorney that he'll ride as an independent rider coming winter. There will most likely be no agreement and thus a trial about the contract termination fee. There's also an insinuation that Team Jumbo could sign him in 2019 already. Since they've always said they don't want to see van Aert in the fields, this most likely means his cyclocross career ends 31/12/2018.

Since we all love rumours: Apparently team manager Nick Nuyens was trying to dig up dirt on van Aert in case Wout wanted to break his contract. Nuyens was forcing team members to write statements about van Aert's disloyalty to the team and management. Someone told van Aert about it and he immediatly terminated his contract after hearing this.

Horrible start to the season. Today's race is geo-restricted, at least for most of Europe... I expect next week's to be the same, shameful...

Yellow Jersey
Anyways it was Toon Aerts who took the first win, ahead of WVA and Laurens Sweeck.. so as predicted we can expect Aerts to be in the battle for the World Cup win.

Marianne Vos won the women's race also, Sanne Cant only a surprising 10th.

Ollfardh
I wouldn't conclude too much after the American races, the top riders are far from their best shape at the moment. Look at the results of the previous years, there's always some unusual results.

Sporza has some videos, but they might be georestricted as well.

Yes but Aerts has shown multiple times to be in WVA's level, and regarding VDP both are and will still win more and more valuable points in the US. It will be a fun season, I hope and expect and it was a bummer not being able to watch this race but I hope I can get my CX bug soon Smile

Aerts has just won the second race of the World Cup. Whoever voted for him was very clever Pfft Van Aert and Vanthourenhout complete the podium.

Ollfardh
Hmm, with that result I think both van Aert and Aerts can win the World Cup with just podiums to counter MvdP wins?

Yellow Jersey
My thoughts exactly.. For VDP to win he must win every race and will need BOTH Aerts and Van Aert to have at least one very bad race.

Bad crash for Mathieu today, he might be out for a while. Daan Soete the surprise winner!

Lol, and VDP won today, with that swollen ankle. The guy is the future GOAT.

I guess the only way to have an exciting race is to have Mathieu with a total offday. European championships on Sunday!

New site: Basically PCS for cyclo-cross. Amazing to finally get something like this!
