.:Welcome to the GCN ProTeam:.
Back in the MG for a fourth season, we ride under a new name for 2018! The GCN ProTeam picks up from the ashes of the Haute Route - Mavic team that was relegated from the ProContinental division last year, with the plan to build and compete in the Continental division again.
Prior to last season, the progression of the team was clear with promotion coming after a 9th place finish in the CT division. However, through mismanagement and a poor transfer period, we find ourselves back in the CT with our tails between our legs.
But the goal for this season is clear - get back in the PCT division, and this time via automatic promotion and not disbandments in the higher division. There will be a change of faces, a new look to the team, as we build a more international team with an African feel.

.:Transfer News:.
Part 1
The GCN ProTeam last night secured their first signings of the 2018 season, with 3 riders joining from the Free Agency market. Our plan was simple, bolster our leader's support and try and add a British touch to the team. In these 3 signings, we have certainly done that.
Michael Cuming | 28 years old | XP: Maxed | €50,000 wage
Michael joins us after being released from the disbanding Wiggle p/b Boardman team, and he will be a key domestique to Pinot in the mountains, as well providing support in the hills to our other riders.
Good against the clock, he could be our surprise package this year in some stage races.
*****
Dan McLay | 26 years old | XP: Maxed | €50,000 wage
A key target at the start of the transfer season, Dan joins the team after released from RBC Pro Cycling in the post-season.
A solid lead-out man, with the back-up stats to match, he will be key support for Jens Keukeleire in the CT sprints this season.
*****
Chris Opie | 31 years old | XP: 4.53 | €50,000 wage
Last but not least, we have Chris comes to us again from the disbanded Wiggle team. Like McLay, he will be support in the lead-out for Jens, but his age and experience in the MG peleton at the higher levels will make him the captain on the road for our GCN squad.

@booker: Thanks a lot. We are happy with the first batch of signings
@jt: I was surprised that he was signed with no competition. Very happy to bring them all in with no fuss.
@viking: Missed that after my copy/paste of the lay out of the others. You are right at him being 4.53 xp. Certainly a shame not to have him maxed, and any attempt to do so will be reversed once he hit decline age

@hillis: We have only met once so far in the the FA market, so it could have been worse. Look forward to seeing you out on the road
@redordead: After last season, there has to be some optimism I think. It was not a good year and we are in a better place now to turn it around.
@white: Thanks a lot! I'm a fan of McLay on 50k as well

.:Transfer News:.
Part 2
Part Two of our Transfer News announcement and we are happy to bring a further three rider into the squad to support our leaders.
Unlike our first signings, who came from the Free Agency, our latest recruits have been signed from team higher up in the MG ladder.
Pavel Potocki|25 years old|XP: Maxed|€50,000 wage
Pavel comes to the team from Isostar Slovenija, as part exchange deal for Tosh Van der Sande, and will provide key support to Thibault Pinot in the high mountains.
Placed 6th in the 2016 Tour de l'Avenir, he has shown potential throughout his young career, and we are delighted to bring him on board for the 2018 season.
*****
Ahmed Youssef Belgasem|31 years old|XP: Maxed|€50,000 wage
Another man joining us from Isostar Slovenija, Ahmed Youssef will be another fine addition to the Mountains team assembled at GCN.
Signed as part of the Potocki/Van der Sande for a fee of €300,000, his double National Champion victory last season means that he will have our designers at Assos working hard before the season opener to create a jersey he can be proud of.
*****
Steven Burke|30 years old|XP: Maxed|€50,000 wage
Steven joins from Iberia - Team Degenkolb for a fee of €75,000, and brings a wealth of Time Trialist knowledge to the team. He will work closely with Mujtaba Hussein to build on our squad's capabilities against the clock, and be a key part of our road team.
As British Road Race Champion, we are delighted to be able to show off the red, white and blue of the National colours on the back of a GCN rider this coming season.
*****
Sadly, we also see three riders leaving the GCN ProTeam squad during this transfer period. As mentioned, Tosh Van der Sande depart for the ProTour and the Isostar Slovenija team, whilst Tsgabu Gebremaryam Grmay will be showing off his Ethiopian National colours elsewhere after joining Festina-Dexia, before being subsequently transferred to Team Cerveceria Costa Rica in a later deal bu SotD.
Finally, Clenne Morvan Moulingui is going to be paid in bananas for the next 12 months, after we agreed to send in out on loan to Minions in order to continue his development as a Cobbles star.
We wish all our departing riders the best of luck with their new teams.

Those are 3 very good riders on 50k. Looks like a nice boost in the stage racing department.

.:Transfer News:.
Part 3
Part Three of the Transfers announcement for GCN ProTeam and we begin to bolster the team with leaders on alternative terrains and some future stars who we hope to have shining for us in a few years time.
The team is almost complete at the end of the transfer window, with a total of 16 riders making up the squad (pending our late draft submission being accepted.)
Pieter Jacobs|32 years old|XP: Maxed|€50,000 wage
Pieter joins GCN ProTeam from Team Festin-Dexia for a fee of €313,000, and will instantly slot into the squad as Cobbles Leader.
In the latter stages of his career, we were more than happy to bring him onboard and give him the chance to lead the team, where his main goal will be the Lincoln GP, amongst others.
*****
Gasore Hategeka|31 years old|XP: Maxed|€60,000 wage
Signing from the Free Agent, following release from the Eritel - Sonatrach team, Gasore will give the team some presence in the Hilly Races on the CT calendar that was very much missing.
*****
Ryan Gibbons|24 years old|XP: 2.60|€50,000 wage
The first of our future talents, Ryan joins the GCN ProTeam from the Free Agency after riding as a stagiare for Project:Africa last season.
Seeing his full potential as a key sprinter in the MG peleton, we have signed the South African on a full contract and will keep a close eye on his development. One to look for in a few years time!
*****
Stef Krul|23 years old|XP: 1.08|€10,000 wage
Stef will ride as a stagiare for GCN from August. Seen as a future talent against the clock, he will be a key rider for the team in lead-outs, chasing back a break and going for the win the TT stages and race across the MG calendar.
*****
Sadly leaving the GCN ProTeam is Adel Barbari, who w his possible on the team as surplus to requirements, and after being unable to attract attention from other teams, he was released from his contract.
We wish him all the best for the future, and hope he finds a ride back in the MG peleton soon.

Hategeka for 50k and so late into transfers is kind of a joke, congrats on that.
I was very close to counter you to have him mentor Hadi for a year or two, but he's just a bit too old for my philosophy.
Also, obligatory hint that you missed the REC gain for Gibbons.

@cio: A bit of a typo in my write up, and he signed for 60k, but still a bargain for me. He will give me another dimension this season.
Gibbons stats have been just quickly put together, and I need to tailor it better for him over the years thanks for the hint though
