A paradise for sprinters who can only perform in totally flat stages under 150 kms. That's this race in Mexico. 5 days for the CT sprinters to battle for the "crown" of best sprinter in the division.
Rider | SPR | ACC | FLA | RES | Rider | SPR | ACC | FLA | RES | Haller | 80 | 79 | 72 | 71 | Brus | 78 | 78 | 71 | 69 | Salleh | 80 | 80 | 70 | 65 | Bogdanovics | 78 | 77 | 73 | 69 | Castañeda | 80 | 79 | 71 | 67 | Jones | 78 | 78 | 72 | 65 | Granjel Cabrera | 80 | 77 | 75 | 71 | Horton | 76 | 82 | 76 | 65 | Lay | 79 | 81 | 73 | 66 | Manan | 78 | 78 | 68 | 67 | Krieger | 79 | 79 | 71 | 74 | Park | 78 | 77 | 70 | 68 | Awang | 79 | 83 | 64 | 62 | Angarita | 78 | 77 | 72 | 65 | Bennett | 79 | 79 | 71 | 68 | Selig | 77 | 79 | 70 | 68 | Clarke | 79 | 78 | 72 | 71 | Andriato | 78 | 76 | 71 | 68 | Hochmann | 79 | 80 | 70 | 61 | Farrar | 78 | 76 | 71 | 67 | Havik | 79 | 76 | 73 | 68 | Bar | 77 | 76 | 77 | 72 | Kruopis | 78 | 77 | 73 | 76 | Rowe | 80 | 70 | 72 | 58 |
The main favourite, considering his own strenght and his impressive sprint train should be Mohamed Harrif Salleh. Helped by Awang and Manan, the full-Malaysian train shouldn't have any rival in the battle to be the best sprint train. Castañeda and WCC also have a great sprint train, especially having Lay as his final man.
Having in mind that the wind can always play a factor in some stages, Haller and Granjel Cabrera stand-out for his good flat skills and their great resistance - compared with the rest of the field.
Kulczyk have sent their three 79 sprinters to this race; Bennett, Hochmann and Havik, so there's the uncertainity of who will be the sprinter for this race. Bennett is probably the best bet though.
Rowe is another 80 sprinter, but has a lot of flaws, with his horrible acceleration and his awful resistance.
Phillips also has an interesting duo with Krieger and Bogdanovics. They aren't likely to form a train with Krieger not being a straight favourite, but if lucky, could have both riders fighting for bonus seconds.
SanCor has an impressive sprint train, but with Andriato being only a 78 sprinter, they won't be considered for it. If they are able to form a train, Andriato could do very well
There are a few other sprinters who don't have a train, but if they are able to pick the right wheels, they can fight for a great result, like Clarke, Brus, Park or Farrar

Sauber should be strong enough to help Salleh achieving something good here. Would be cool to see the sprinter teams in control of chasing the breaks.
As always, I will cheer for an Aussie. Our former rider Clarke will hopefully in the mix for a good GC here.

Don't expect much from Krieger and Bogda, so go ahead, surprise me!

lol
I've lowered the bar for my expectations here, so let's watch Clarkey not meet them. A nice surprise to see I did send Jams here, so hopefully he fires.
EDIT: I have to agree with Clarkey not having a train as we haven't brought our hill squad who are the only people this season to have helped him in the sprint

Thanks for the excellent preview Aquarius. Unfortunate not to see your stellar flat squad there in Mexico
This might be one for Haller to run away with, but hopefully our stable of sprinters will have something to give him a contest.

I think I got Salleh from you (along with Othman), or was that the Salleh I no longer have?
Anyway it should be a good battle between Haller and Salleh and whichever one wins the battle here will be top sprinter in the next update as there is just 7 points difference between the 2 at the moment.
Hopefully we can take the GC win but a podium should be easily achievable if we don't let a break take any stages.

Love to see that Rowe has been undervalued here in the preview He's raring to go and ready to prove you all wrong
Don't know what to expect here, our sprinter is too strong to join break aways which means we may struggle to get results as Rowe seems to fail when the going gets tough... and I assume there will be one or two hard stages where we will struggle.
I will take a top 10 overall and maybe a podium in a stage, but we will see here

In the left side Aeropostal, with a rather weak lead-out for Granjel Cabrera. On the Cuban’s wheel: Clarke
Yep that's my Clarkey!
Sad to see the peloton denying Jams the race win already today (especially with Scotson accompanying) by closing down all the dangerous breakaways, guess this'll be a tough one to crack

Well, 6th place for Krieger is ok. Tying his best finish of the season so far. Guess that's a decent start...

Thanks for the report Aquarius97
Congratulations to Miguel98, not easy with all those sprinters at more or less the same level.
We are likely not going to have that much influence on this race, so great to see Ha Jeon Jung taking care of the TV time issues, keeping our sponsors happy.

It's a shame Salleh got boxed out of that sprint looked like he struggled to get up to full speed due to other riders being too close and him not having enough space to move through gaps.
It's still a strong result though and the fact Haller missed the top 10 and the bonus seconds gives us hope of the GC win, just got to get back the ones Grange Cabrera took on this stage as he is still a big threat in his own right.

First time in 4 years of Man Game I'm not here. Cheering for Aeropostal I guess, they should come back to the PCT.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Happy with the first 2 stages, Rowe doing relatively well in both, although the 2nd stage could have been better. Still, 4th in the GC is very nice, and we could improve that still with another good result! Corti as well with a few nice assists so far and does deserve to pick up a few bonus seconds to move himself up the GC as well!

Hmm... our home race and it will be completely forgettable. So far nothing of note has happened, no real attempt to even try to be competitive.
