It`s been the fifth edition of the Euskal Bizikleta, which first took place in 2009 with Vicioso taking the win followed by A.Efimkin in 2010 and Cobo in 2011. Yes that`s a long time. 4 years break and then the come back in 2016 in more recent cycling and Klemme won.
On same roads the 2017 event will see 14 CT teams and 2 PCT squads to go for glory in the Basque country.
As often on hilly terrain the top favourites are van der Hugenhaben, Chaves, Boily and Roux. So quite a good startlist for a C2 event.
Bratashcuk and the depth squads of Repsol with Cunego/Gilbert and Sauber with Hugentobler/Wahyudi/Othman also must be named.
| Hill | Acceleration | | Hill | Acceleration | van der Hugenhaben | 80 | 66 | Nzeke | 76 | 68 | Chaves | 79 | 72 | Becerra | 75 | 62 | Boily | 78 | 74 | Rocchetti | 75 | 64 | Roux | 78 | 75 | Tvetcov | 75 | 73 | Bratashcuk | 77 | 67 | Wyss | 75 | 75 | Kratochvila | 77 | 64 | Costa | 75 | 73 | Diggle | 77 | 70 | Wallays | 75 | 69 | Cunego | 76 | 70 | Godoy | 75 | 63 | Gilbert | 76 | 69 | Schurter | 75 | 71 | Hugentobler | 76 | 76 | Khripta | 75 | 69 | Wahyudi | 76 | 67 | Haavardsholm | 75 | 80 | Othman | 76 | 76 | Destribois | 75 | 75 | Rodriguez Galindo | 76 | 67 | Bardet | 74 | 75 |
The sprinter field is okay for two sprinter stages that both look rather difficult. Hence not all top sprinters decided to come here but still a few that take the gamble.
| Hill | Sprint | Acceleration | | Hill | Sprint | Acceleration | Castañeda | 59 | 80 | 79 | Corti | 63 | 78 | 76 | Mezgec | 67 | 79 | 77 | Manan | 60 | 78 | 78 | Clarke | 62 | 79 | 78 | Vasylyuk | 64 | 77 | 76 | Lay | 60 | 79 | 81 | Suryadi | 62 | 77 | 74 | Awang | 52 | 79 | 83 | Belletti | 67 | 76 | 77 | Kruopis | 70 | 78 | 77 | Vaquera | 64 | 76 | 78 | Kreder | 70 | 78 | 80 | Chavanne | 64 | 76 | 76 | Sonnery | 70 | 78 | 73 | Ariesen | 61 | 76 | 76 | Thwaites | 65 | 78 | 76 | | | | |

After the false start of Cacak hopefully the "Maynaissance" can really get going for us. Well with only Faso to come this is really the only race in the Maynaissance for us Hope for the win, podium at the least. No matter how low the bar I set is Clarkey is a limbo master so I'm going to go into this race pretending he doesn't exist.

Goal race. Strong line-up. High up in the jersey numbers. Hopefully the good fortune from Cacak continues. We still have some catching up to do in the rankings. GC top 10 is what we are expecting, but there can be a lot more points to be won if we play it right.
Should be a good fight among the top four favourites for the win!
Thanks for the preview roturn

Need to finally see something from the hilly squad for our team. Big points are becoming a must with this group quickly as they haven't got results elsewhere.

Mmmm... two top10 contenders with Cunego and Gilbert... won't even get a top15 between both
Hopefully they don't disappoint me and actually fight for a top5 or a double top10. We really need the points here to avoid this month from being an absolute disaster

My other CT race this season after Langkawi, it would be awesome to be similarly successful and see some of my guys in the breaks. Maybe Suryadi even can get a decent result in the sprint stages. Looking forward to the reports. |

Somehow I doubt we will repeat our performance from last year where we got all the depth points from a weaker lineup.
Hopefully we can still have a strong race though even if it isn't as good as last year.

We sent a weakened team here as we didnt really have suitable races to go for and we took a risk with sending Tvetcov here. That being said, we should really be able to compete here as surely stage 4 has a decent MO:HL ratio for him to shine, I'd be disappointed if this was not the case :/

Quite surprised to see Kneisky in a breakaway, as his stats usually wouldn't allow him to do that. A shame that he didn't have a good day, as if he did, he could have hold off the bunch with his 79 in flat

Nice win for Kreder. But what the hell is wrong with Mezgec?

Happy that Corti bagged a good result here in the sprint, hope we can use this result and over perform for the rest of the race

Whoa did I really see an Azteca rider contesting the sprint?! Way to go Vaquera! This is off to a much better than expected start now.

Almost missed that this was up nice to be racing again !
For the first time Manuel Belletti (as far as i remember) was tying in the sprint, that nice enough.

Annoyed w/ Kruopis' performance, but a 5th place is fine.
Hopefully he can show up with a bigger performance before RvH and Kratochvila can take over the hillier stages later in the race |

The decision to bring Kreder to this race has been justified. Over to Wyss and co. now. Interesting that Battaglin lost time and is also among the KOM points scorers. Hopefully looks to get into the break now.
Thanks for the report roturn and congrats weirdskyfan on the win
