Okay. First of all. It's just an idea. I don't know if there is any interest to follow this story, but If I don't try, I'll not know.
Few very important rules:
What does it mean: "Teams by Draft"? Every team will draft a rider assigned to a specific pot.
Pots:
Pot 1: Top riders by average. Must be the same or higher than 79 = Every team drafts only 1 rider!
Pot 2: Other riders with 6 and 7 potential = Every team drafts 3 riders; #ThoseBetterRiders
Pot 3: Other riders with 6 and 7 potential: Born before January 1993 = Every team drafts 4 riders
Pot 4: Other riders with 6 and 7 potential: Born after January 1993 = Each team drafts 6 riders
Pot 5: Riders with potential 5: Mountain, hills, sprint, time trial & cobblestones are at least 74 = Every team drafts 7 riders
Every team will have 21 riders. Remember: Every pot is NOT including riders from previous pots. That means if rider from pot 1 will not be drafted... Well, he's season is lost.
You might ask. Fine, but when you end your season, what's next? Two best team from Pro Continental Division (I'll start "Be a Pro" for just that reason) will take spot of those two World Tour teams that will have 17. and 18. place in team ranking. Then I'll do a "transfers" season. Those 2 PCT will have a privilage to draft 21 specific riders between them:
1. Riders not chosen from first ever draft
2. All 21 riders from both worst teams
3. Riders that will be "for sale"*
* - "for sale" means 5 randomly chosen riders from every team
Other teams will just wait until PCT will have their squad ready, and then they will draft remaining riders from category 1., 2. & 3.
When a rider will start to decline or end his career, any random rider from "only I know" reason will take his spot from those not yet in the game. Probably I'll choose those young better riders from doing "Be a Pro" for just that reason.
Teams will randomly choose the riders by a number assigned to them in every pot.
There is an order of draft (via current WT teams ranking):
1. Team Sky
2. Quick-Step Floors
3. BMC Racing Team
4. Team Sunweb
5. Trek - Segafredo
6. Movistar Team
7. ORICA - Scott
8. BORA - hansgrohe
9. Cannondale - Drapac
10. AG2R La Mondiale
11. Team Katusha - Alpecin
12. Lotto Soudal
13. UAE Team Emirates
14. Bahrain - Merida
15. Team Lotto NL - Jumbo
16. Astana Pro Team
17. FDJ
18. Team Dimension Data
REMEMBER! ALL DRAFT WILL BE DONE BY RNG. THAT MEANS TEAM SKY MIGHT BE THE WORST TEAM AND DDD THE BEST!
I'll not continue to post other things like riders assigned to specific pots, calendar and results of draft, if there won't be interest. I will not know If I don't ask .
If this is a bit confusing, ask anything. I'll try to help you understand the story.

Will you manage any of those teams? Or will you start a career with your Pro Cyclist?

I will not manage any of the team. There will be just one control team, with like 2 or 3 riders with 50-55 stats so nothing "bad" happen. As in this game there is no "season mode" every race will be done as single stage race or one day classic.
Something like Fantasy Neutral Story, but with teams that will draft their riders. |

Aaah, now I get it. For the control team, I'd put them in the mid-60 stats. If not, they will suffer to make the control time in the mountain stages, and you can't play in 3D mode if you have 0 riders in the race

Yeah. I'll probably do that and mid-60 is actually decent so there shouldn't be "over time limit" situations. |

Okay, so let's see which riders are in which pot. First column represents a number which is assign to a rider. Later today or tomorrow I'll post results of first draft (pot 5)
Pots:
Pot 1: Every team drafts 1 rider
Pot 2: Every team drafts 3 riders
Pot 3: Every team drafts 4 riders
Pot 4: Every team drafts 6 riders
Pot 5: Every team drafts 7 riders

Movistar seems to have some good riders, with already good climbing and hilly depth, and Astana looks weird with 5 riders with 75-76 sprint
But yet no stand-out teams

I really like this kind of experiments as it brings something new to the stories.
With regards to the control team, mid-60 will not give you any problem. I play with those on Extreme and never have any issues.

Cannondale with the best sprinter depth ever, but without a top sprinter. Either they win a lot or fail massively.
Ag2r to dominate the mountain with Quintana, Contador, Majka, Amador, Caruso...
BMC with the most varied roster, with massive depth in all terrains but sprints, where Groenewegen must be smart when following other wheels or he won't win anything

Time for another reveals. I'm working now with the calendar and points scoring system.

Dimension Data Like 8 75+ climber, and Sagan. Success guaranteed
And Lotto with a leader in every terrain
Also love FDJ squad, with the Froome-Aru duo for GT, and that all their sprinters are strong in other terrain to overcome their lack of top speed

Abu Dhabi Tour

Preview
We start the World Tour season with not that hard race in United Arab Emirates around Abu Dhabi! Three really flat stages for pure sprinters and one with mountain finish for "real" climbers. Good chance for medium sprinters to score decent points, or for domestique climbers for a great victory!
Startlist is very well balanced. We don't have pure sprinters here, but it doesn't mean we will not see great sprints. It might end via not only three different winners, but possibly even with three different top 3 places! That how we do it here in UAE!

You might think there aren't many good climbers. Wrong! Team Dimension Data with really strong team: Nieve (which is main favourite for General Classification), Buchmann, Anacona, Gaudu and Poljański. Who knows? Maybe they'll find someone who can also sprint very well? Katusha came with also very good squad: Latour, Soler or Roson! Who will win? It'll all depends on race day conditions on stage 3.

I don't like the fact that there are so many great riders undrafted...for me a favourite on the last place are already Quick-Step Floors

Interesting. We will see if you are right

That's apparently the point of this . I just wanted this to be a bit different than every story. Also it doesn't mean those riders will never appear. PCT which will make their WT debut will draft their riders from those not drafted now.
I think I know why

You can see stage 1 profile on a photo above. And I will go with real UCI scoring system.
Favourites:
We are under way! First attacks came very early. G. van Keirsbulck (BMC) was first to attack. He was followed by many riders. There were about 10 or 12 riders that wanted to join early breakaway. Peloton decided to slow down very fast so five other riders joined BMC rider at the front. Including C. Gautier (FDJ), S. Chavanel (AG2R), A. Dowsett (UAE), L. De Plus (Lotto NL) & L. Kamna (DDD).
Peloton was not slowing down: J. Haig (QStep), L. Hansen (BORA), M. Mugerli (Soudal), W. Van Aert (Cannondale), J. Hindley (Sky) & R. Guerreiro (Trek) also tried to attack! They didn't have enough power to escape though.
Only few kms after it W. Van Aert (Cannondale), J. Hindley (Sky) tried again. This time with J. Narvaez (Trek). M. Wynants from Lotto Soudal tried his luck too! Very chaotic start.
J. Hindley (Sky) with no more energy to follow! Can the breakaway escape?
W. Van Aert (Cannondale) & J. Narvaez (Trek) has also been caught.
M. Mugerli (Soudal) tried again! M. Gogl (Sky) decided to join him. Now we have 6 riders in the breakaway with a lot more tries: G. van Keirsbulck (BMC), C. Gautier (FDJ), S. Chavanel (AG2R), A. Dowsett (UAE), L. De Plus (Lotto NL) & L. Kamna (DDD).
First intermediate sprint:
1. G. van Keirsbulck (BMC)
2. S. Chavanel (AG2R)
3. C. Gautier (FDJ)
125kms to go: A lot of chaos going on. Peloton not gives the breakaway (7 riders, 6 above + M. Gogl (Sky)) more than a minute lead!
100kms to go: The breakaway has 3'14" lead.
75kms to go: The breakaway has 3'16" lead. Many teams are working at the head of the peloton.
Second intermediate sprint:
1. L. De Plus (Lotto NL)
2. A. Dowsett (UAE)
3. M. Gogl (Sky)
50kms to go: The breakaway has 2'49" lead. Astana, ORICA & Bahrain are working hard in the peloton.
30kms to go: The breakaway has 2'07" lead. ORICA with 4 riders at the front of the peloton.
20kms to go: Breakaway is almost over. Riders didn't have any more energy to relay. They will be caught very soon.
12kms to go: No breakaway! Astana and ORICA are leading the peloton with a little help from Movistar now.
7kms to go: Astana, ORICA & Movistar doing job for their sprinters!
