Tour of Kyūshū

My first attempt with the stage maker, this is a fantasy race. Location is the southern island of main japan Kyūshū, (九州) literally "Nine Provinces".

Stage 1 : Kitakyushu City University > Ohori Park – Fukuoka

i.imgur.com/4eH9JtE.jpg

Kitakyushu "North Kyushu City" is the 2nd largest city on Kyūshū, and the city that connects to the mainland (Honshū) by the Kanmonkyō Bridge.

Fukuoka is the largest city of Kyūshū with a population of about 1.5 mil (larger metro. 5.59 mil), the city is often also ref. to as Hakata.

Stage 2: Fukuoka Tower > Dazaifu – Mizugameyama

Dazaifu was the imperial office governing Kyūshū until AD 663, besides that Dazaifu is famous for its Shinto shrines and Zen temple’s.

Stage 3: Dazaifu > Kumamoto

Kumamoto is mostly famous for its Castle, Kumamoto Castle's history dates to 1467, it is considered one of the three premier castles in Japan. The city and the castle took damage in the 14 April 2016 earthquake.

Stage 4: Kumamoto > Aso-san

Aso-san is the largest active volcano in Japan and is among the largest in the world. Normally the Volcano is visitable and attract some tourism, but not always, the last eruption was October 8, 2016

Would very much appreciate critical comments to improve my stage-making.
NB: I did not know that it was best to smoothen the climbs – so stage 1 and 2 got a bit unrealistically hard slopes

Have to say it looks a nice little stage race Wink

Selwink
There's not much to notice without playing it so I'll judge by this:

1: For the slopes: select 2 road points (CTRL+click) and press CTRL+M to smoothen the slopes between these two points.
2: The route design looks excellent, very balanced and interesting
3: Graphics are the harders to judge from this, but from what I can see is that the small peninsula is a bit empty. It appears that you have added graphics only very close to the route. The background seems a bit empty. You don't have to fill the entire map, but not seeing empty spots within 2k or so of the route would be recommended (of course do keep it empty if it is in reality Pfft)

But for someone new to the stagemaking it looks excellent!

@sutty68: Thanks

@Selwink:
1: Thanks, I will try that !
3: Yes, I was afraid how heavy the file gets If I filled it with terrain features, form stage 3 onwards I did more and I looks better.
Thanks a lot for the tips.

Some really nice races for a first attempt! Smile

Some quick constructive feedback which will help you improve quickly just from opening the zcts file of the fourth stage:

As Selwink said try to make sure that nothing is empty without vegetation or fields - place the forests a bit further out around the terrain so you don't see empty space outside of that.

You've used auto-cities mostly, which is fine for now, but for the cities where you've used Wallhouses, it'd be good to put a few more roads in to make the city a bit bigger which will look more realistic, also you can put vegetation around cities to avoid empty space there.

It'd also be nice if the road network was a little bit bigger in general, just have some more roads coming off the route and intersecting with it to give it a more realistic feel.

All-in-all a good job though, some really nice routes especially. Smile

@trekbmc: Thanks for the great feedback, very much appreciated.

also you can put vegetation around cities to avoid empty space there.

Can I put vegetation on top of the city, or is it only outside city borders.

to make the city a bit bigger

Was afraid I had already too much “city”, so I was holding back on that
Will do in the future, especially realistic regarding Japan, where it is basically either city or mountains.

It'd also be nice if the road network was a little bit bigger in general, just have some more roads coming off the route and intersecting with it to give it a more realistic feel.

Yes I kinda knew that, was having some trouble with the roads, ended up removing too many of the originally planned network.Frown

NB: If I manually change a forrest or field description, will it change every one of the same type, or only the single one on the map

You can edit those values for any single field/forrest.

Good start here. Keep it going!

Thanks

Yep, you can place it on top of a wallhouse city but not auto generated ones (you can play it around auto generated ones, it just won't have an impact on them) also I recommend lowering the number of trees, rocks and bushes on top of a city because most don't have as many plants as inside a city.

Thanks, lots of nice new input to play with Smile

Great work Tamijo! Having already been to Kumamoto, Fukuoka and also on top of the Aso-san will make it a no-brainer to try the stage. Fantastic work!

Ya, if you have been there is should be more fun.
The only part of this route, I haven’t traveled by car it the first stage. (you don’t see much from the Shinkansen)

Going through Saga would've made it perfect, but like this it's still amazing. Has the Mount Aso stage a highered wind influence? From what I've learned in Japan it's regionally known for heavy winds up there Smile

Tamijo
No changes in wind on Aso, would be i nice idear, but did not think of that.
The 2nd sprint is "Saga" but in the outer (west) region of the city.

clamel
What a pleasant surprise. A new race in Japan. We haven't got many of that up to now. Haven't had time to open it up and test it, but I see you have gotten a lot of good critic and valuable hints from top creators.

If I could have anything useful to add I will after testing it out proper. Guess the "Masters" have already said what looks to be the most important things.

FYI starting up in pcm15 and including the zcts files is something very very good. That makes it available for pcm 15-17 and even pcm14 with a little editing.

Thanks clamel ! Glad to see this much interest. Truly inspires me to continue and hopefully evolve my stage-making.

I am aware that creating in 2015 makes it useful also in other versions. And will start to make some “real” 2017 races from now on, seems to be many especially Asian races to cover not available at this point.

Tour of Kumano 2017

i.imgur.com/CaN1gB1.jpg

The Kumano area (熊野) is located around the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula, about 100 kilometers south of Osaka. In 2004, the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes were registered as UNESCO World Heritage as part of the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range" property.

The pilgrim routes

Tour de Kumano (ツール・ド・熊野 Tsūru do Kumano) became a professional race in 2008 UCI Asia Tour as a 2.2.

This is based on the 2017 route.

Prolog 0.7 km

The only 0.7 km Shingo city center prolog at Along Ichidagawa River Side Course won’t create more than a few sec. time differences, but will provide the early race lead.

Stage 2: Akagigawa Seiryu Circuit Course 114.1 km

i.imgur.com/RDVa1Af.jpg

The steep cat.3 climb to Kumanogawa Onsen, pass 10 times combined with the short uphill finish, will most likely make this stage the most decisive, it is very possible that the race winner will be found here.

i.imgur.com/jVO7OQG.jpg

Stage 3: Kumano Sangaku Circuit Course 100.5 km

i.imgur.com/rbRidta.jpg

With the hardest climbs, especial cat.1 Fudatate Pass, but with about 30 mostly flat km from the last top to the finish, it will be very important regarding the KoM, but not too likely to change the GC.

Stage 4: Taiji Hanto Circuit Course 99.8

i.imgur.com/PgMCh7Q.jpg

If everything is still very close, the bonus sec on two intermediate sprint and the finish line, may come into play, otherwise a rather flat circuit, should not create to many gaps.

Even though many of the stages is on paper flat, the route is rather undulated, it will not be easy for the pure sprinters to claim many stage wins, a combination of punch and sprint will be preferable.
