The Oz Cycling Project is now entering it's fifth season and we went for a significant change of our team's name for the very first time: Jayco'z Cycling Project will be Australia`s premium equipe in 2016, going into it's second year in the ProTour! We're proud to have finished our first ProTour campaign as a solid 11th in the final rankings.
Our partners remain the same, with Jayco stepping up as our new main sponsor. It's a special year for the team and like last year (where Matthew Goss entered the season as the reigning world champion) we have another set of prestigious jerseys in our rows: Jack Bobridge will proudly wear Australia's road championship shirt, while Miles Olman took our countries' timetrial primes. Haijun Ma took the Chinese national double and our promising stage racer Jack Haig went to take Oz's second WC title by winning the U23 timetrial event!

With the 2016 season ahead and the MGUCI already revealing the first routes and the entire calendar for the upcoming campaign, it's time for Oz to dig deep into the preparation for hopefully yet another succesfull year in the ProTour. We've done all the analysis for last year and now look forward to an exciting off-season, in which we want to strengthen our setup to compete with the very best teams in the world. Of course there's again one important key rider, we would love to keep building a strong team around: Jack Bobridge.
Spoiler
The new Australian road champion - definitely a special boost for both him and the whole team - will be one of those riders, we hope to rely on. After finishing the 2015 season as 37th in the individual ProTour rankings (including an outstanding 3rd place in the Tour of Tasmania, adding strong results as 7th at Liege - Bastogne - Liege and 6th overall in Paris - Nice), Bobridge should see another "upgrade" in the upcoming off-season. Our goal is to help him become one of the undisputed premium puncheurs in the field, providing some highly focussed training opportunities in the next weeks.
This second year in the ProTour may still become more difficult than our first season. The future of aging stars like Marcus Burghardt or Domenico Pozzovivo and Giovanni Visconti remains uncertain. The same goes for Matthew Goss, who had a solid but far from impressive year as the reigning world champion. While Burghardt (32nd in the individual rankings) again missed a big victory on his beloved cobbles, Oz's management is rumoured to give him another shot next year. His experience and skills still speak for themselves.
New season means new blood. It's too early to talk about big transfer targets for Jayco'z, but we may expect a few of those names on the list, which already were targets last year. It ain't a secret that our management is interested in helping riders like Rohan Dennis (picture above) or Timothy Roe to gain some well needed experience in the ProTour. And of course there will be some big names popping up on the free agent market. Taylor Phinney as one of those. Caleb Ewan and Oz Cycling.. a kinda special topic. We never really expressed our interest in signing one of the most hyped talents on the market. And neither did the young gun himself. You may wonder why, but one thing is for sure: this gifted talent may need a new challenge.. either for one single season or for a long-term deal. Just like the past seasons, Jayco'z ain't expected to go "all mad" for this sick sprinter. But who were we to not consider an opportunity to land one of our contries' most talented cyclists?

The 2016 transfers are well underway and while some big guns go for some big money, the Oz decided to "fish" under the radar and snap some domestiques and talents first. We are happy to announce the following four signings: all of them were quite important targets for our management.
Chun Kai Feng adds another wider Asian touch to our team. The 28 years old allrounder is strong on flat roads, but also knows how to survive more difficult terrain. He also adds some minor cobbles skills to our "cobbles squad". Jacob Salcone adds a very special country to our mix: coming from Fiji, the Oceanian spectrum becomes another piece! He never rode professional cycling, but we feel that he can add somlething solid to our stage racing squads.
A Kiwi may be our biggest talent joining: Dion Smith may fill the role that George Bennett had here a few years back. Less expensive, but similar talented, Smith can become a decent climber in a few seasons. While we didn't exactly went for younger riders this year, it's nice to see that this things with Smith worked well eventually.
Same goes for Brendan Canty. The Aussie promises a nice stage racer package. Probably not the premium talent on our roster, but definitely someone we wanted to give a chance to make his steps on a high level.

Jayco'z could seal two more free agent deals today: opposing to yesterday's arrivals, we now got two important pieces mainly to our sprinting and leadout setup. We are happy to announce those names, as both had been high on our wishlist.
Wouter Wippert had already been targetted last year and now became available thanks to Quickstep's disbandment. The dutch sprinter can both ride as a key leadout for Matthew Goss and as our main sprinter in a few HC races. His high acceleration and strong backup skills should make him a valuable member of our team.
Cheng Ji is Jayco'z third Chinese on our current roster and strengthens our flat roads setup. Coming with a nice combination of flat skills, stamina, acceleration and the ability to survive hills, Ji is one of our strongest roleurs. A tough flat classic like Lisbon looks like a race, where he can play his strength for our lineup. We're happy to seal this deal with a wage of 70,000€ per year.

Lahcen Saber is the latest and also maybe final signing for Oz in the free agency 2016. The Morrocian sprinter is something like our queen transfer, as he's definitely the most promising rider in short term. While we should not expect him to enter the ProTour with a bang, the 26 years old fast man comes with a promising package for the years to come: combining a great speed with good cobbles skills and also decent abilities on hills, Saber surely can be someone to watch for when he gained the needed experience with Oz this year. He wasn't exactly our Plan A option, but we're happy to welcome this interesting talent in our team.

Four loanees will ride in Jayco'z colors this year
Rohan Dennis joins Oz from cycleYorkshire to gain the needed experience in the highest division. The Aussie had already on our list last season, where we would have loved to sign him on a permanent deal. How ever, the prologue specialist with decent allround skills went to Britain - just to join Oz one year later. He should become a solid support for our stage races with TTTs.. Another rider we tried to sign last year: Pierre Paolo Penasa. The Italian climber will mainly support Lachlan Morton in his most important races, but may also get the chance to ride in a free stage-hunting role from time to time.
Benjamin Dyball joins us from PCT team Karcher-Adira. The 27 years old Aussie will be one of our stronger mountain helpers and his solid stage racing setup makes also him a valuable piece to our roster. It has been said twice and it can be said for the third time: also Dyball has been a well known face on our shortlists the past few seasons. Welcome back home, Ben... And welcome, Timothy Roe! Another stage racing suited Aussie, who spent last year with the new founded Fox Sports equipe. We are happy to help our Australian friends giving Roe some important experience in the ProTour. Of course we hope to see him contributing in a pleasant way here.

He's a great rider, and will be even stronger after being maxed next season on both the cobbles and in sprints. He remains a future transfer target for my team
