Welcome to High Risk.
High Risk is a mini-game which is not time-consuming at all. The game is a combination of tactics and knowing your enemy. Luck could also come into play, but you could argue what is luck and what are tactics.
Game Rules
High Risk is a tournament game. 16 players will be divided into four groups. Each player plays three matches in his group, one against each adversary. You gain points from these matches. Every match runs over three sets (unless the victor claims the two first sets, then the third does not count).
You could also draw a set. If this happens, the other sets will be won cross over. Drawing one set means a 1-1 result. This results in a draw and each player gets 1 point.
Win in two sets (a 2-0 victory) : 3 points.
Win in three sets (a 2-1 victory) : 2 points.
Draw a game (1-1) : 1 point each.
If your opponent forfeits or does not send in his tactics before the deadline, this counts as a 2-0 victory.
The two best players of each group advance to the next round, where it turns into a knock-out league. The winner of group A then faces the runner-up of group B and so on.
Match Rules
A match is quite simple. Every player gets 20 points. He has to distribute those points over three sets. An example can be:
Set 1: 8 points
Set 2: 2 points.
Set 3: 10 points.
His opponent might have picked this:
Set 1: 14 points.
Set 2: 6 points.
Set 3: 0 points.
This match would result in the following match:
Player 2 wins the first set with 14 over 8.
Player 2 wins the second set with 6 over 2.
Player 2 wins the match with 2-0.
Player 1 played out his points quite evenly, with a great emphasis on the last set, which could be decisive.
Player 2 took a high risk and put most of his points on set 1, which he practically had. Set 2 was more of a risk, but player 1 was aiming to take set 3 for sure. Player 1 was right that he would take set 3, but he set too few points in the second set so he never got around to set 3. He lost the game by playing it carefully.
There are many different variations and putting all your points on set 1 does not automatically make you a winner. Example of another match:
Set 1: 5 points.
Set 2: 10 points.
Set 3: 5 points.
Player 2 goes aggressive again:
Set 1: 15 points.
Set 2: 4 points.
Set 3: 1 point.
Player 2 obviously wins the first set.
Player 1 wins set 2.
Player 1 wins set 3 and wins the game with 2-1.
Pre-Match Tactics
You send in your tactics using a format like this:
Match 1:
Set 1: x points.
Set 2: x points.
Set 3: x points.
You are free to send in tactics match by match or send in your tactics for all your group matches in advance together. Your most recent tactics are those that will count. But sent in tactics after the deadline do not count.
Sign-Up
As you can see, this game requires little effort. All you need to do is send in three numbers for each match.
Of course, following the other results (sets are made public every match) can give you insights in the other players' tactics.
Sign up below, simply stating you are in or you want to play. A pm is also allowed.
Any questions, ask below or send a personal message. I'm aiming for 16 players, so I hope we can get that number without too much trouble.

Sounds fun, so I'll join , even though I'll be terrible at it
(although I came equal second in the BB HOH that was somewhat similar, so maybe...)

Glad to have you on board
And don't worry. It's almost impossible to be "bad" at this game. Unless you put all your points on one set and give other sets 0. Only way to lose for sure
Also once I have all players, the groups will be drawn by a random generator online.

Glad to see an interest
Also worth noting:
Bluffing is allowed. You can post any (dis)information as you want in this thread. Put your opponents off by bluffing or even outlining your tactics honestly. However, pm-ing your opponents with tactics is forbidden. Obviously I cannot check, but counting on goodwill. |

Great! that's almost half the spots filled up already, a good sign
Also thinking on pace: I think a good deadline for each match day is 3 days. What do you think? After all there's not that much effort to put into so everyone should be online once in three days. Also since you can send in tactics earlier, too.
So I'll probably go with:
Day 1: Announce match day 1. You can send in your sets.
Day 2: wait
Day 3: wait.
Day 4: deadline + match day 1 is played, results are made public. Announce match day 2. You can send in your sets.
Day 5: wait
Day 6: wait
Day 7: deadline/match day
etc etc
Dates moved up if all sets are in, though. |

Excellent, that leaves 6 spots open
With some luck, we could get this on the road within 24 hours. |

Similar style game to Mre's H2H game (allocation of resources), nice idea! I'm in.
