Tour d'Andorra
Let's keep this short..
..climb, climb, climb, climb (against the clock), downhill (against the clock), climb climb climb climb climb, downhill..
..yap, welcome to Andorra!
The Startlist
The Favorites
Rider | MO | DH | Intxausti | 82 | 63 | Abal | 81 | 73 | Pozzovivo | 81 | 71 | Brajkovic | 81 | 66 | Kiserlovski | 80 | 66 | Marquez | 80 | 64 | Nazaret | 80 | 64 | Duarte | 80 | 61 | Pedraza | 79 | 65 | Popovych | 79 | 64 | Karpets | 78 | 64 | Stetina | 78 | 73 | Lövkvist | 78 | 69 | Cataldo | 78 | 65 | Marzano | 78 | 65 | Panayotov | 78 | 65 | Serpa | 78 | 62 | Efimkin | 77 | 71 | Topchanyuk | 77 | 63 | Maillet | 77 | 65 | Navarro | 77 | 70 | Augustyn | 77 | 61 | Vasquez | 77 | 61 | Plaza | 77 | 65 | Ardila Cano | 77 | 58 | Jeannesson | 76 | 73 |
Eight 80+ climbers, followed by a couple of more outstanding stage racers: the Tour d'Andorra 2014 will most likely write a bigger name into it's record book as last year's Bajadali (in the Mini ManGame):
Intxausti as the best climber is obviously the top-favorite then. If downhill skills will be a factor though, the likes of Abal and Pozzovivo may be rated as similar strong. Daily form will be a factor anyway, so also Brajkovic (impressive in Pays de Savoie) or other mountain goats like Kiserlovski, Marquez, Nazaret and recently unlucky Duarte will aim for the podium at least.
The startlist has much more to offer though: Pedraza, Popovych, Karpets, Lövkvist, Panayotov, Cataldo... they all are amongst those, who will go for the Top-10 (maybe hoping for the Top-5) in this brutal race.
Oh... yes, there's a timetrial. But as said above: you better count on your climbing and downhill skills for this one as well!

This shall be fun/insane/crazy. Top 5 would be something to aim, all about consistency here.

HUGE starlist Twas expected though. Boeing hope that Panayotov feels good and we will be searching for a Top20 position realistically. Hopefully a few breakaways as well

I can only hope my team joins a break or 2... Efimkin could do fairly well GC wise, but no more than top 15-20...

Haven't won a stage race in MG history... my 1st win goal of the season. Now would be a great time to change history.
Come on mountain train, do work!

This should be fun.. very strong startlist, i have to lower my expectation. Karpets should be able to end in the top20. Also my team should go for the breaks

Nice to see I am not the only CT team here, both myself and ONCE. Funny to see Jeannesson is the equal best Downhill rider of those listed climbers, maybe he can try use that. I am going to be realistic and say we are not expecting anything but a successful breakaway on one of the early stages could do us wonders, a stage Top 5 would be the greatest result in the world. As the underdog team I at least hope that we attack a lot. Should be a great race!

Doh, what a startlist in this climbing Olympics. Popovych should aim for the lower top10, but first part of the season tells me rather top20 for him if we are lucky, top30 if we are not.
You are rolling right now Tsmoha, great job!
Marquez will win this, because Het Nieuwsblad has not changed since then.

Will be fascinating to see what the AI makes of this race.
Something I have noted is that it tends to overestimate how much the TTers will take on a TT and so makes them more passive on the MTF stages perhaps?
I'd imagine stage two is the hardest given it is shorter and therefore stretches the gradients, though stage five just looks like a nightmare.
Intxausti should really win this, given for a basque he is far better on mountains than hills this is as close as he gets to a home race other than enless climbing up to Eiber's TV Mast (of course actually we have no such thing as Basque in MG but still )

I don`t expect the biggest gaps on the first three stages within the biggest favourites.
It will be interesting how much the ITT can create gaps and then it`s all about positioning and the right attack on the last stage I think.
If you miss the attack, you won`t make it back on the descent and can lose lots of time there. Crucial stage there.
Next stop Pro Tour for this race. (This is only, when I don`t relegate )

Seeing the profiles of the stages, I can only like this race. With the MTT in the Vuelta in mind, I don't think stage 4 will create great gaps. But with three mountain top finishes and the only stage not being it (excluding the MTT) probably having the most height metres to climb. Really looking forward to the reports! |

Can't see the downhill bits matter to much. You can gain or win seconds there, but I expect the winner to at least get a 90 second gap down to the next rider.
For Pozzovivo I expect a top three, but hope for the victory. The usual suspects are here, so Pozzovivo really needs to show himself to get the top spot. Pozzovivo has been to passive to often this year, he needs to attack.

Topchanyuk attacking early is a good sign, Efimkin being the rider who leaves the gap isn't too great. But, I guess both did what they could today, and a decent result should be possible from here.

Good opening, Serry taking KoM lead although that won't last for long. Marquez doing perfectly, 5th should be the aim. Bit silly to let that trio go so easily though.

Not the perfect start but karpets lost no time to the top riders (excluding that trio) and even won time to many riders at which the top15 is within reach. The rest of the team need to attack in order to gain something else in this race
