UCI press conference
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. As were approaching the end of the first season after the great purge [see details: https://pcmdaily.c...626], we want to look back at what we have achieved so far and look forward to the second season.
Looking back at the goals we had set for the first season, we can only say that it was an absolute success. The corruption within the UCI has ended and there is more transparancy. We give the teams imput in all kinds of things, from calendar changes to the point system.
Another important goal was the globalisation of cycling. We gave important places on the calendar for some South American, African and Asian races. Joaquim Rodriguez participated and won the Tour de San Luis, Belkin dominated the Tour de Gabon and the Tour of Hainan currently underway also has an impressive field. We also welcomed cyclists from all over the world into the peloton, including some that are almost completely new to cycling.
We also succeeded in our attempts to bring young cyclists into the peloton. Over 80 new riders aged 18 to 23 have made it into the peloton so far. We also have 13 extra riders confirmed next seaon already. Not all those who rode this year will continue, but most of them will. We hope to welcome even more young riders before the next season starts.
These young riders went on to get some results in their first year, including a few big wins. Most succesful of these was Willem Brouwer, currently 17th on the rankings. He managed to win the Tour de Gabon, the Clasica de Almeria, Tour de Vendee and a Giro stage, while also wearing the maglia rosa for one day. Kim Po-ding, the first North Korean in the peloton, won the Volta ao Algarve and the Bayern Rundfahrt. Christian De Vries won the Osterreich Rundfahrt, Jordan Birtles won the Danmark Rundt and Cristian Schroder won the Tour of Norway. A lot of riders picked up stage wins as well, champion here is Adrien Hanzen. Oreste Ghita managed to finish 10th in the Vuelta, while Mitchell Birt picked up 2 stages wins in that Vuelta.
For the next season, we will be changing the calendar a bit. A few more classics will be added and a stage race will disappear. We will welcome Drapac Cycling in the Continental Tour, giving us a total of 40 teams for next season. The World Tour will be reduced to 16 teams, so we'll have 24 Continental Tour teams.
We will also be looking for more managers. Amongst the available teams are Trek, AG2R and Cofidis to name a few. We will open manager applications in a few days, to join the existing group of about 20 managers continuing into the next season.
We also hope to welcome new riders, those applications will be opened soon as well. Riders will be allowed to compete from the start of the upcoming season.
After this explanation, we will now take any questions you may have.

Well, what was I supposed to say? Yeah, we're still corrupt as hell, but we're doing a better job at covering it up

Offseason starting tomorrow
With Lars Boom winning Paris-Tours and Joaquim Rodriguez taking the World Championship jersey, the first season of EPIC concluded. The offseason will start tomorrow, so this is pretty much the last call to all managers for next year if you want to work on your team. Available teams are AG2R, IAM, Sojasun and many others. Draft
After two draft rounds, a lot of teams added interesting riders to their rosters. First pick was Caja Rural, who brought Julian Arredondo into the peloton. NetApp surprised by signing 18 year old Mathieu Van Der Poel, the youngest rider of them all. Frank Schleck returns to Vacansoleil after his suspension. We have some "brothers of" joining as well. Dayer Quintana was drafted by Androni while Sebastian Henao went to AG2R. The Yates brothers split up, Adam went to Giant and Simon went to Garmin. Sam Bennett turned pro as well, joining Saxo. Finaly some guys who are expected to rule te world some day: Caleb Ewan went to Orica, Matej Mohoric went to Astana and Silvio Herklotz joined Belkin. Finaly Lampre decided to give Felix Cardenas another chance.

Transfers
Some really big changes in the offseason this year. One of the biggest transfers came at the start, as Mark Cavendish returned to Sky while Richie Porte joined Omega Pharma. In the mean time, Euskatel started a big operation to bring all the Basques home, signing Intxauski, Zubeldia and a bunch of others. Evans and Albasini switched teams, as did Barguil and Ten Dam and also Roche and Fuglsang. The next big transfer was a bit one sided, as BMC got Konig from NetApp, giving the Germans Nerz instead.
What followed was some more questionable transfers. Giant traded their draft pick Adam yates for Hesjedal and some Kreders. Omega Pharma traded both Stybar and Velits to Germin for Dennis. Pinot went to Trek and Gallopin went to FDJ. Kangert joined Giant and Degenkolb was given in return to Astana. Some of these transfers look a bit one-sided, to say the least.
In the mean time Basso realised it was time for a step back and was sold to Androni. Chavanel joined Europcar. Flecha went to Movistar, so they would score some points on the cobbles this year. Giant kept turning their team around, Mezgec out, Van Poppel, Westra and Poels in. At the same time, Omega Pharma kept demolishing their successful cobble squad, trading Vandenbergh for De Gendt.
We had to wait for the last days of the transfer period for the biggest deal though. Katusha traded Joaquim Rodriguez and Dani Moreno for Kreuziger and Kump. Next Turgot and Guardini switched teams, and the final trade was Bobridge and Wagner to Lampre, Malori to Belkin.
In the mean time, Argos did not extend Kittel's contract, which came as a shock. Belkin used their budget to buy him for a record sum. Bradley Wiggins also got tired of the competition at Sky and joined Garmin, where he could lead a GT.

Trek - It's Vacansoleil. And something tells me the fault lies somewhere in your camp
TMM - Well, when did you change it?
