I fail to understand why they didn't make this route more difficult. When Contador says that he doesn't want to attend because it would equal Cavendish trying to win the queen's stage of the Tour, something is wrong..

With that being said, Spain obviously still have a chance and we dont know exactly how the route will pan out, but come on. The harder the route the better in my opinion, especially since it is held by Spain. It will probably be as boring as all the other classics..

I love the way Gerrans is the favourite, but Aussie team won't have to work much anyway as its's up to Spain and Italy to make this circuit harder than it is.

Just watch if this becomes Montreal OGE style Pfft

I'm cheering for Navardauskas! A win for Cancellara would be awesome though, I hope the distance of the race can play into his hands.

Edit: It seems like both Wiggins and Froome will be at the start line of the road race Shock

Would love to see Gerrans in the rainbow jersey! And if Wiggins takes the TT everything would be perfect! Banana

Wiggo and Simon Gerrans!

I think the Mens Road Race will be very open, there won't be a favourite in my opinion, there will be a lot with more or less the same chance. The course is pretty much ideal for guys like Sagan and Gerrans, but Sagan seems to be in a bad shape. Gerrans on the other hans seems to be at his best to the World Championships.

I would personally love to see Cancellara win, he is an amazing rider, and his career would be complete if he manages to win the road race.

I have never understood why the race has to be so long? Make a bit more difficult course and then only 170-180 max. This would create lots of riders attacking instead of a bunch just sticking together, because they are scared of using energy, because it is such a long race.
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders

Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

I know he isn't the favourite, but do people think this course isn't hard enough for Costa, he was 2nd in Montreal. So he could contend a win...

I doubt it, this race seems even easier then Montreal + the startlist is better.

PS: did Costa get the WC curse or not? Winning Suisse was nice, but I don't remember any other wins.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Very interested in the Junior and U23 events this year, some very interesting young riders (male and female) have really progressed this season and could make for a good race. ALso the Elite womens race should be nice and open, hoping for GB to at least be active and around the top placings

He didn't win more races, but still, his season is quite good so far, even though his spring campaing was ruined by fall in P-N.

The elite men races will be so booooring Rolling Eyes Omega-Pharma wins TTT, Panzerwagen the ITT. The course is so easy that Kristoff wins the RR and leaves Gerrans and Cancelara to fight for second Wink

I wouldn't count on OPQS yet, they lost some good riders with Chavanel, Velits and especially Vandewalle. Though having Tony Martin on board is always a plus.

Considering last year Omega won by -0.8 seconds and their team for TTT is weaker than last year, your statement makes zero sense. Orica are as big favs as Omega here.......

Agree with TMM, I always like the juniors race and expecially the U23 one. This year will be prbably more interesting than ever because of the talents that are developing very fast.

For the TTT my choice would be Orica, becuase of the reasons above.
For the ITT there's no reasons for not saying Tony Martin.
But, most of all, I like this year's route. It isn't an easy choice but I'd go for Gerrans anyway, mainly because of the endurance he demonstrated. For the podium, well, I think that the sprinters that can resist on that slopes won't have easy life (Degenkolb, Bouhanni, Kristoff etc.) because of the teams like Italy and Spain that don't have a sprinter like the 3 above.
But don't forget Sagan, I think he's hiding himself to make the other teams focus on the OTHER hilly sprinters. I think he will arrive at the WC with almost top shape.
Also, I wouldn't forget Cancellara and the Netherlands' team.
Cancellara said that he won't run the ITT so I think that he's focusing himself a lot on the hills, and as we saw in the Vuelta, he's almost in top shape.
For Netherlands, well, they have a lot of alternatives without a true leader, and this I think that will be their only problem.
