July Rankings Update

As July has progressed there have been a few races that have felt pivotal towards the various rankings battles in the division, so how have they affected the standings?

Two pre-season favourites have had the strongest month - despite not taking an overall race victory. Vueling Airlines topped the scoring, followed by Vespa-Aprilia.

The 3rd best scoring team is very interesting, as Iglinski's win in Austria has helped give LukOil-Rostelekom a strong month - which they went in to ranked bottom of the PCT standings. Swedbank-PEAB also scored well having been in the relegation zone.

Iberia are comfortably the top CT scorers this month, ahead of Kappa and Gazelle - all 3 were already in the promotion positions.

The month starts and ends with Rothaus-Aegon on top of the table, but once again, they did not spend the entire month at that position. ING Cycling Project started the month strongly in the Isle of Man to close the 160 point gap and take the lead. Rothaus reclaimed the lead at the Post Danmark Rundt - even though Zabriskie won that race for ING.

Tinkoff step up to 3rd, but previously relegated pair Bouygues Telecom and Vueling Airlines are not far behind and are now seaprated by just 16 points in the battle for the final promotion position. Bpost are only 5 points behind Vueling too!

Vespa and VolksWagen both move into the Top 10 but have work to do to catch up to the Top 4. Jaguar are also into the top 10, as Metinvest, Sram and HTC slip out.

The entire bottom half of the field are becoming engulfed in the relegation battle, as all teams try to avoid those bottom positions. It is close all the way down, with Evian one of the teams leading their escape from danger.

Swedbank's good both sees them up 3 to 23rd, while Cisco also climb 3 places to escape the relegation positions and also open up a 127 point safety cushion. CSC-Orbea and PFG-Armavia are pushed back in the relegation zone but it was looking worse for CSC prior to Costa's Taldykorgan win - the 92 points gained there rescued them from bottom spot.

The race certainly isnt over though, with CSC, LukOil and Repsol all winning races this month.

The projected standings makes for very interesting reading as despite falling out of the actual promotion zone, Bpost have climbed up from 3rd to 1st in the PPrD rankings. It wasn't the greatest of months for Tinkoff and Rothaus as Hollister also nip ahead of them.

All 4 saw their PPrD rating drop, but ING increased theirs from 20.3 to 21.5 so are right back in the promotion mix.

These standings make for much nicer reading for the likes of Alstom, Cisco and LukOil but they are not so good looking for Evian, Pivovarna Lasko and Swedbank.

Timofey Kritskiy's return to racing pushes him past 1000 points to extend his Individual Rankings lead. Taaramae and Hoffman have swapped positions in 2nd and 4th with Napolitano and Pozzovivvo also climbing.

Bibby and Efimkin have climbed into the Top 10, with Zabriskie, Keizer and Roche also on the up.

Kashechkin has climbed up 141 positions after winning the Usa Pro Cycling Challenge, while Chavanel's performance in that race took him from 380th to 92nd.

Gazelle's lead did not grow this month despite a couple of good races, as Iberia have emerged back up into 2nd place. The Top 5 have remained the same, although Allianz will not be too pleased with their trajectory.

But with the inactivity of some teams at the top of the standings, and also in other divisions, the promotion battle could be going beyond the Top 5 - with the likes of BnCr, Kenya Airways, Magna, Privatbank and Mobil all pressing thir case.

FC Barcelona are the biggest movers this month, up 3 to 14th. Sauber stay 19th despite winning the Tour de Korea.

Delivering value for money whenever he rides, Thiaho Nardin and his 50k wage now leads a Gazelle 1-2 at the top, ahead of his team leader Weening.

Scarponi, Rodriguez and former leader Mehr-Wenige are still close, while Marzano and Moreno are on the rise, these standings could go all the way to the finale.

Arroyo finally delivered a race winning performance to move into the Top 20, while Hugentobler saw a big jump after his Korea victory.

Thanks for the update, SN. As always very nice to read.

Will slowly lose my top spot I guess as Boom has almost finished his season. But luckily he proved to be a good point scorer as I already had feared he would be too weak this year.

Vantomme awesome season still sitting in top3 individual. Most of his season is over but he has a few one day races left to stay in the top10 I guess. Hope his salary is still high enough to avoid a jump.

Time for Bellis to safe me that high team standing as he has lots of races left just like Geschke. This duo needs to score now.

And last but not least I am very happy to have already 3 successful goals and should also have secured the top10 European Tour spot.

No matter how this season will end now, I can`t complain at all. Great season so far and it`s looking good for the future.

Well, this month + Tour of America might decide if I go up or stay. There's still a couple of race's after Tour of America tough, so it may be a sprint to the finish. Even If I don't promote, it's not too bad, but If I do, I won't say I'm disappointed, more suprised.

10th in the PpRD rankings is insane - anything close to that would be quite the achievement. Top 15 remains the goal, though.

As for the PT promotion battle, I'm most interested to see how Rothaus or BPost would look should they get the promotion, but there's no calling who'll go up just yet.

And the expected collapse is here. Too few points in many of the last races brings us to the border of the relegation zone (PpRD wise). The worst is the feeling that we can only go down from here on, but of course I hope for a miracle in the second half of the season.

To be honest expected more this month, mainly in the Tour of Korea where Mehr-Wenige clearly failed. The next month will be very important with 4 races for our team. Yet the fact that teams with fewer days spent racing gives me hopes of achieving the ultimate goal of top10.
The fight for promotion will be fierce and the Tour of America may even be a key race for some teams.

The PpRD-projection looks very promising. Didn't expect to see us that far up the ranking.

Given that CSC already won a race in August, it's definitely far from being comfortable down in the bottom of the rankings. Of course I didn't expect us to stay away from those battle this year, even though a better planning with Rogers might have put us on the safer side of life

Anyway, even though the pprd-stuff ain't looking too bad for Oz, we definitely need to score better than we did recently. I'm somehow expecting the Tour of America becoming a disaster for us and also some other races (Hellas, Bejing) won't give us too many points, so we have to score where we supposed to be!

Pushing for a Top10 finish with only 1 rider in the top50 (48th, Thomas) is not bad going. Lots of racing to go, hoping that a lot of the big stars will be out of days. The Tour of America is going to be huge, but if Boeing go badly there, we have enough other races to score strongly.

Still quite exciting across the divisions, with a lot of changes showing how open the season still is. It is going to go a long way before positions start being confirmed

As expected, a really bad month.

But on the good side, I love these monthly rankings, they have definitely given the game another dimension ad I'm always looking forward to them when we're about to end the month! Thanks SN!

Costa's win helped a lot but I still think I'll make it through this season with August being a huge month and I still have Anton leading us at the Tour of America. It's going to be close but I actually like my chances to survive.
