Thuringen Rundfahrt 2013
Stage 1 is the TTT which will kick of the race, but should not create big gaps. However valuable seconds may be gained here so all teams come here with very good TT'ers to help them propel their GC contenders high in rankings after stage 1.
Stage 2 is listed as a flat race, but it's quite tricky near the end. The 3 hilly laps at the end will be perfect opportunity for attacks, it will be interesting how the stage develops.
Stage 3 is the 2nd most important stage here, it finishes with a hill top finish where gaps can be easily created, puncheurs will try to break the TT'ers here.
Stage 4 & 5 looks quite similar, both have hilly laps and both look quite tough. Stage 4 looks most likely it might end in bunch sprint, but even there it's far from guaranteed. All GC contenders will have to watch out, as time can be easily lost here.
Stage 6 is the key stage here. The hilly TT will favour TT'ers that can do well on hills, but it shouldn't disadvantage pure puncheurs with lack of TT skils too much, an outcome will be very interesting here. Riders that wins the stage will likely be the winner of GC too.
Stage 7 looks easiest of all the stages bar the TTT and it's still not guaranteed looking bunch sprint. The 4 circuits at the end contains fair amount of climbing, so the sprinter teams will have to do their best to contain attacks here.
| Hollister Pro Cycling comes to the race with 3 strong riders to challenge on all terrains here. Allan Davis will lead the sprint front-line, his hill stat should help him to overcome the many difficult hills many other sprinters won't. Carlos Betancourt leads the team in their GC charge supported by Ion Izagirre. Those two will be very dangreous duo, Carlos will surely look to attack any any opporutnity he can get too. Stage win and high GC are the team's goals here, both can be achieved. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Vitaliy Popkov is the main man for Metinvest-Emirates in the race, he'll have a great TT support in the TTT which should help him to get some bonus seconds on his rivals. Nolan Hoffman is their 2nd leader, he’ll be hoping to get some good sprint results here, with a win possible if he's on a good day. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Linus Gerdemann leads the Sram Riboxx team in their home race, with the advantage of home bonus Linus will be looking for a great GC result, with bit of luck, even a win might not be far away. His main helper will be American, Duggan. Meanwhile Mezgec will lead the team's sprint hopes. | | Vueling brings the biggest pre-race favourite and puncheur to the race in Patrik Sinkewitz. He'll be looking to win time on the hilly days ahead, to limit his looses on the hilly TT to TT'ers, however even the hilly TT should play in his favour. Vueling based their whole team on Patrik as their sole leader, wchich brings the stakes for him to perform just tad little higher. | | Ignas Konovalovas is airBaltic - Endura GC hope in the race, he's skills in both hill and TT are similar to some other candidates here and the Lithuanian could achieve any result from a win to being oustide Top 10 here, such is the deepness of the field. René Mandri & Tomas Vaitkus lead the team's sprint hopes, Mandri looking especially threatening with many hills even in the sprinter races | | Jaguar is the only team who doesn't bring a strong GC candidate. The team will be lead by Andrew Tennant and will hope to participate in many breaks over the stage with their promising talents. Sam Bennet is the sprinter in the team, but his low climbing skills will make it difficult for him to make it to the finish line with the bunch. | | Ben Hermans is Swedbank's sole GC leader here, strong rouler and puncheur with decent TT sound like perfect skills to do well in this race. He doesn't have greatest helpers, so all his teammates will have to do their best to put him in right place at the right time. Giaux will hope to get some results in sprints for the team. | | Team UPC brings one of the biggest candidates here in Kai Reus. The Dutchaman is many favorite here and will look to deliver in his first stage race of the season. They also bring big favorite in sprints in Mirko Lorenzetto whose good climbing abilities should help him a lot in the race. | | Adira's big transfer scoop, Dietmar Mehr-Wenige will lead the team. The German champion will look to perform especially well in his home race. Van Loocke and Gajek will look to challenge in the sprints as well. | | Rothaus - Aegon brings the World Champion to this race, no other than Lars Boom who'll be looking to take his first win in the Rainbow jersey and the GC win for the team. He'll have great TTT support to help him, as well as decent support in hills from Simon Geschke who'll be looking to take a result or there on the tougher sprint finishes here. | | Vasili Kiryenka comes as clear leader for the Russian outfit. He'll have good support in both the TTT and the hills making him a dangerous candidate for very good GC place here. Trusov leads the team's sprint hopes here. |
Stage 2 had to be re-done due to narrow roads present and has been finished today, hence I didn't play any stages so far due to that fact. I will try to do my best, but reports might be bit slow-ish for this race, hopefully however I can do one per day.

Cool startlist for this race. I think Mehr-Wenige will make the C2 proud and take a surprising win here in front of some bigger continental stars.
And a bit off topic: Won't we see any narrow roads during the mangame this year?

Top 5 is the goal for Vueling here. There's plenty of strong riders to deny Sinkewitz that top spot, but it looks doable. |

The Germans are my favourite here, can't look past Sinkewitz obviously, it's time for Vueling to make their first mark here.
And SN: One stage per day was never considered slow-ish

No, but it has to be ensured they don't screw up the race.

TTT likely to be the best bet for Jaguar, and then just to see how much Tennant can cling on over the hills

Meh, one stage per day is slow, would have preferred two tbh but we'll see how it goes
Yep, narrow roads cause gaps that there shouldn't have been created on a normal road which is unfair.

I don't think it's slow, but some might think different.
I'm always for a fast season, but it won't be the only race reported at that time, so it's not like we have nothing to watch in between.

Where have I said anything about the pacing of this race?

I wrote that actually I think SN just corrected what stage was fixed, I think I wrote stage 1 while it was in fact stage 2 obviously.

All I did when editing the main post was add "Discussion" to the thread title.

Oh, I see
Well, that happened because I scrolled up from the bottom and only saw "Edited by SportingNonsense" and just assumed the original post was from you as well.
Sorry, that remark is for Alakagom then

Glad to be back on the bike
Hope Hermans can make a solid result in the GC and Giaux make some great places in the sprints. |

Will be interesting to see what the hilly TT result is. I considered sending Cornu but I thought that the stage would go to a puncheur so didn't bother.

Will be interesting to see how my TTT squad will do. Except for Geschke I have the strongest possible here.
Boom will hopefully be in a good position for a high overall here.
Geschke will be my only sprinter in this race and he should have very good chances to get at least one stage win. In especially with the National Bonus. Lots of hard sprint finishes.
In general it will be hard to beat Gerdemann and Sinkewitz I guess. Still a top 5 is hopefully possible for Boom.

Pretty strong startlist for the race, higlighted by home stars Gerdemann and Sinkewitz, i was hoping to slightly lesser competition for Popkov. Still top 10 is the goal for him with good hill/TT abilities and strong TTT support, where we want also top5 result.
Nolan Hoffman can be hopefully able to grab some podium placements and maybe even the win, if he carries the great form from South Africa Tour. His biggest opponents should be Lorenzetto,Davis and Geschke in possible tough hilly sprints.

Great startlist for this race, my hopes fall all over Mehr-Wenige as obvious. I am hopeful that the house bonus can help disguise its weakness in TT. Yet competition is enough, and I know it will be difficult to get the results it has had so far, but all that is below a top 10 will be a disappointment. The others came the best tt's to help in the TTT, and sprinters should not get more than a top 10 stage maybe.
I hope to demonstrate once again that the CT teams can be at the level of PCT

A really interesting looking race with that hilly time trial surely the big focus. I found though that these types of race had some kind of selection previously.
I'd make Sinkewitz the favourite to make an impact.
Congrats Roturn for the TTT success considering how close it was behind they rode close to perfection to win so comfortably. Hollister a bit behind the game here on the first stage.

Wow. This was unexpected. Very nice start.
Had hoped for Boom or Geschke to be first but nice for Velits of course. Just hope nobody will wait for him... |

not a bad start for the team, lost time can be recovered and no one was running removed from the the fight for the race.. Velits in leadership can be bad for Rothaus
