Hi,
With PCM 11 I attempted making stages once. I created some mountain stages and was getting better at it, but with PCM 12 I kind of lost track. With a lot of crashes I gave up on the Stage Editor feature that comes with the game. However, I'm planning to train myself in stages again and maybe come up with some nice stages for the site here.
I hope to get a lot of feedback here so I can grow. At the moment I'm working on a fantasy mountain stage, and I'll upload it to mediafire as soon as I'm done. That could take a while, because as I'm typing this, the editor is crashing once again...
Thanks!
Ian

I'm trying anyway, thanks
Though I'm a complete idiot concerning programs etc, so I'm not sure how I will test the stage once it's done. But those are worries for later, now I'm trying to get the stage finished! |

What patch are you working on? Cause i used to use 1.4.0.0 but i never got the editor working properly for any length of time. I run using 1.3, still crashes but no more than i would expect from Cyanide software
Adding stages is surprisingly easy in PCM12 as long as you follow the instructions on the site
Look forward to seeing what you can come up with.

Surprised to hear that the editor crashes that often for you. I find it much more stable in PCM12 than earlier games, with barely any crashes.
Definitely interested in seeing what you can build.

Agreed. When the SE crashes, it's usually my mess-up, e.g. click ctrl+z too many times (sometimes I click 5 times or so quickly and it crashes), clicking on anything while anything is loading (rebuilding cities, water), or accidentally changing the size of the SE window (makes it crash sometimes)

Thanks for all the support
It mostly crashes when things happen like lluuiiggii describes: CTRL Z, clicking while loading and changing the window! I'm working with patch 1.4.0.0 because the editor didn't even work with 1.3.0.0
This is the profile so far
I'm afraid the climbing is too irregular, so I need to work on that. But I'll finish it anyway and see if it's playable, and try to work on the details, too. |

Well, you're logically not supposed to do that, don't blame it on the editor
Concerning the slopes, I did once try editing the roads xml file through the editor to correct it, but it's not too pratical (I think I might be the only one who finds it useful ).

Yeah, I've come across your editor before, but I don't think it's my cup of tea
Experience will have to do the trick for me, I guess.
I'm going to try to test the stage now, so I'm attempting replacing another race with this one. Hope nothing crashes or dies
How do I backup a stage properly? What do I need to copy into a backup folder?

Just add your stage as a variant = e.g. name it "top_tdf_01_2014". Then in game choose the 1st stage of the 2014 variant Tour. This way there's no need to backup anything

Okay, thanks. Do I have to input something in an editor or something, or do I just drag it into CM_Stages? |

Okay, I still have one problem with the export. The cities are just white lines, so I try: rebuild all cities, before exporting. Whenever I do this, the editor crashes, every time again, it crashes while rendering the cities. |

It takes some time for it to load, so make sure not to click anywhere until it has finished rebuilding.

I think it might be faulty. I leave it alone but after 10 seconds or so, the editor shuts down and I get a crash report. Exporting while they are still white lines won't result in cities ingame, I guess? Maybe I should just build all cities manually, though that seems hard to do. |

Try using multiple exports and see if it crashes. If it does, there's probably a problem in one of the cities. In that case, open the .zcts and try rebuilding every city individually, until you find in which of them it crashes.

That shouldn't happen. I'd guess that there's something wrong with one or a few cities. Try rebuilding them one by one to see if any specific one causes the SE to crash.
And yeah, you need to rebuild them before exporting. Otherwise there wont be anything where the city is supposed to be when trying the stage in game.
EDIT: lluuiiggii'd

Thanks a lot for the help so far. The cities is a problem for later. I tried the stage now and will post 19 screenshots of the race, both nice things and very, very bad things
Any feedback (from the screenshots) is welcome. I notice myself: slopes aren't good. The mountains are good, but the "flat" or "hilly" parts between mountains are sometimes like walls. I misjudged the stage editor's scale, maybe.
Screenshots:
Sometimes there's a wide open field of green, that's where the cities were supposed to be
I also think it'd be smarter to concentrate on flatter races first.

I don't think it's bad for a first stage. I don't have any stage maker knowledge, but if I just judge on the way it looks, then it isn't bad. Of course there are some mistakes(you forgot to mention the tank station), but it's good.
And a cobbled section on a TdF mountain stage, that's great!
