Paris-Roubaix podium sweep
sieve
Has anyone ever swept the podium in the Paris-Roubaix race?

I've been trying to do this and assumed that my best chance was playing as OPQ. It's easy to win with Boonen, and occasionally, I can get second with either Chavanel or Terpstra, but I can never get all three across together... Canchellara, Flecha or Ballan always spoil the party.

If I control the race pace, these guys will inevitably attack with 1/4 of the race remaining, and chasing them down drains Chavanel and Terpstra to the point where they can't contest a sprint in the velodrome.

If I try a breakaway with 1/2 to 1/3 of the race remaining, these guys and/or the peloton will pull it back. Same result.

Any advice?
Thanks!

PCM10 just the once
1st Chavanel (83cb)
2nd Flecha (79cb)
3rd Ladin Livshits (79cb)

PCM11 just the once
1st Boonen (83cb)
2nd Vansummeren (79cb)
3rd Vanmarcke (78cb)

PCM 12 only 1-2's so far

Advice?
Dont realy at all until the final 80km, and then only if you have to.
Never attack with your riders, only ever counter.
Just stay with whatever is the front group as long as possible

I did it once on normal difficulty with OPQS in classic race mode. Boonen won solo, Terpstra and Chavanel outsprinted the rest. Strangely, that didn't unlock the achievement.

I typically relay on the tarmac sections between the cobbles just to make sure I'm entering the cobbles at the front of the peloton. Relaying at a low effort, say 35, maybe 40 late in the race, will control the peloton and doesn't really drain the effort bar. It looks like the race is well in hand....

until, inevitably, Canchellara, Flecha, Ballan et al. will attack from 80km-50km out and chasing them down is a total effort drain, leaving zero in the tank for a sprint.

So you're suggesting not to relay, but rather just hang up near the front?

What i always do (and usually gets a win) is put all riders on realy at the very start to get them to the front
Then maintain position. And maintain for ages. I leave their effort at the starting level (70 i think). They dont over do it on the cobbles and dont lose position. Keeping lots of bars and positions.
They always attack from far out, nothing can be done about that.
You dont have to pull them back straight away. In fact thats a bad thing.
Use your lowest cb guys (but must be 70+) at effort 80-85 on relay until they lose all red bar and most of yellow.
Then just move into the relay the next best cobblers until you have your 3 top guys left.
Hopefully the gap to the leader (its only ever one) is either now gone, or 30" to 1'00.
At some point the other favorites will start attacking and make the pace for you.
Just be patient!
Wait for it to calm down (usually around 20-15km).
Then porotect best with 2nd best. Dot 80. They will slip away as it isn't an attack and wont be countered.
As soon as there is a gap of 20"+ set both to relay 75-85. If your main leader starts pulling away, take the other rider off relay. Let the leader go.
When there is a gap of 20" or so set 2nd guy to effort 75-80. Leave him on maintain position.
Hopefully the leader will just power away. The 2nd guy will hopefully hang just out of reach of the chase pack. 3rd guy sitting in pack waiting for sprint.
Leader wins solo. 2nd Guy 2nd solo. 3rd guy put sprints tired chasers.

Isn't relay 80-85 is a bit much that early? You can't do that on the cobbles surly?

I only got 1st, 5th and 6th in my last attempt, but maybe next time. Veelers of all people attacked very early and cruised past the break away. I sat in the front on maintain position 70. I always up the effort to 84& on the cobbles though, just to make sure they close any gap quickly. Still they occasionally fall back due to traffic.

At around 60km to go Veelers had an 8 min gap so I put my three weakest cobble-riders on relay around 75%, but lowered it to 65% on the cobble-sections. They were able to keep this up for a good while and I closed the gap really quickly and also left very strong riders behind. After that I had my whole team riding solo with Cancellara, Boom, B.Hagen, G. Thomas along with three generated riders, one of which had 83 in Cobb, but I think I caught the break away too early, because the riders behind me really upped the pace a lot and I had to expend all the energy of every one but Cancellara and my 83 cobb guy to maintain the gap. 10-15km before the finish I had 1:30 on Vanmarke, Offredo and Breshel (3 seasons in with 1 evolution so these guys are very good now) with both riders close to full energy and Boom dropping back after relaying. That's when my my new young star got a flat tire and Cancellara got the pleasure of riding solo.

I wasn't aware I could close an 8 min gap in just 20-25km, so I think If I had been a bit more patient I could have possibly gotten 3 guys first, with Cancellara, Boom and the regen.

Surprisingly no Smile
Especially as there are rarely attacks more than 55km out

Noticed that too, with the achievements. It doesn't work. Won TDF with a French guy, didn't unlock the achievement. Won Player and Team Rankings, no achievement, and so on...

feels like me and Manxmissile has written a lot about how to succeed on cobbles. We should write an own cobblestonesguide about it Pfft
In PCM08 I succeeded in doing a sweep on P-R on Hard. Boonen first, then cancellara and then devolder. In that career Boonen won P-R and TOF five or six times Pfft
At that time I was still playing on Hard so it wasn´t really that difficult to succeed with it.

Nice job!

What were your tactics?

Ty.

As regards to tactics, protect Terpstra only (being the weakest of the 3). I bought the whole team towards the front at the first cobble section and had the workers (Steegmans,Devenys, etc) drill it on the front. I was hoping to cause a big split over one of the cobble sections, while that didn't happen some of the big riders who were further down the pack used up a lot more energy that they needed too to remain in contact. Did this on and off for 90km or so before bmc/radioshack took over.

Whittled down quickly to about 20 riders, some big names like flecha missed out. Used Boonen to protect Terpstra for a bit, then just waited till Cancellara/Ballan make their attacks. If someone was chasing then I just sat in the group, if no one wanted to I used to Boonen to chase (which happens more the closer you are to the finish).

So basically everyone else wore themselves out attacking while Boonen babysat Chava and Terpstra to the line.

I confess this wasn't my first attempt though, the results of my first attached. Cancellara stole 3rd by a couple of inches Wink Very different tactics in this one tho ! And Chava won !

It's from the PCMDaily 2013 preview expansion. At least I hope it is, I think it was released before the new radioshack jersey was shown.

Nice! I'll give that a try. I think dropping Flecha helped a lot and allowed you to focus on Canchellara and Ballan.

At what level dot? I know if you go too hard too fast across the cobbles, you'll blow up Van Keirsbulck and Trentin right away.

Did you also keep the effort up on the following tarmac sections?

Did you sit up to let them do some work or did they crank up their effort on their own?

Did you have any other teammates survive into the group of 20 or were you down to 3?

Indeed it was, but the correct Radioshack shirt of 2012 was included months ago in the Expansion Pack, which you need to have in order for the 2013 preview to work Wink What I guess you did was at some point installing Patch 1.4.0.0 (or any other one) from 1.0.0.0, that includes all files from all patches and in the 1st or 2nd patch Cyanide for some reason included the fake shirts from some teams, including Radioshack. It is fixed by reinstalling the Expansion Pack.

On, and nice results of course Smile

About 50-55, yeah they don't last too long. And it was relay not dot, not that it matters much.

Did you also keep the effort up on the following tarmac sections?

The bit where you do the damage is at the transition from the thin cobble section to the road section. Just as your workers hit tarmac move them up to 80-85 for a bit. Then the whole peleton (and hopefully your opposition) has to still travel on cobblestone at the same speed your riders are doing 80-85 on the flat. That is going to hurt a lot.

Did you sit up to let them do some work or did they crank up their effort on their own?

My workers were dead, the other teams always help out, eventually.

Did you have any other teammates survive into the group of 20 or were you down to 3?

No.

@lluuiiggii Yea that sounds about right. TBH I hadn't noticed it wasn't the right jersey.
