I currently have a Sony Vaio which is 2.5 years old. It still works but makes a lot of noise. Somethings don't go very smoothly anymore either. Going to Uni next month, I'm thinking about buying a new one.
Anyone who knows some good laptops?
I will mainly use it for making papers (Word), downloading and listening/watching music/watching movies and also play pcm and some other games. I hope I can buy a new one which can play pcm on some better graphics as my current laptop.
Anyone with some good advice?

This is a great one for everything you need. I know someone with it. Can't tell you the price though.

It ranges between 500-700dollars
But sorry BB, this one looks great but it is shite for that price power-wise to play the games, mainly because of this: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator.

Thanks guys, my price range is between 600 and 800 € so I think they are in the right price range. I would like if the graphics for PCM are between the best and medium...

Then no way. I can't do that with my 8 month old PC on steroids.

I think you can buy good notebook for 600-800E, most important is not to buy a laptop with integrated graphics card. Go for the one with either Radeon or GeForce (it should be at least 1GB/2GB gfx with own memory) and 4-8GB RAM and you are cool to play at very high settings imo.

I'd say check out Medion laptops, Medion is quite cheap, compared to others and German quality.

I would reccomend the following:
A Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor (Preferrably a sandybridge. Which are the ones with 4 numbers after the i5. Like i5-2410.
At least 4 GB Ram (Preferrably 8 GB)
At least 1 GB dedicated Graphics RAM (Preferably a GeForce card with 2GB)
If you have links to some sites where you know they have good prices in Belgium I can take a look if you want.

You could also try replacing the fan. Doesn't get you a new computer, but is a fairly cheap solution to the noise issue. |

Which runs PCM easily, at least PCM 08. Trust me, I have a Intel GMA 4500M. Upgrade coming soon? Not when I saw the prices. |

I am pretty sure that would be a great Laptop to buy. I have a Dell Laptop, and was looking at getting the XPS17 for a while. I have no complaints from Dell and my laptop runs all games that I play at full graphics, so I am happy.
I recommend looking at reviews on youtube for the laptops on your shortlist, because you get a sense of how big it is, and those sort of things, opposed to just looking at a picture.

Have seen some and it looks like a good one.

I need a laptop.
One question: I have seen he has no optical drive. Is this a problem? I know you can buy one for 20-30 € so that should have pose no problem right?

External optical drives work as well as internal. But I think they all need external power source, so take that into consideration.
I for example love to watch BD movies on my laptop, so it has to be internal. |

Don't see why I would need an optical drive on a moment that I have no external power source so that's not a problem.
One last question: how will the graphics in PCM be? Good, average...

So finally have found enough money to buy one, in fact have about 1000€ to spend now.
Doubting between two laptops.
The Dell xps 14 with Intel i5 and Nvidia GeForce graphic card.
https://www.dell.com/be/p/xps-14-l421x/pd
Or the HP Envy Touchsmart with Intel i5 and Intel HD 4000. I have read on a site that the videocard is a downpoint. The videocard is shared. This is worse as a shared videocard. Does this make any difference?
https://www8.hp.com/be/nl/products/lap...id=5315778
All advise would be great

Well, neither the Dell laptop nor HP's are made for gaming. Geforce 630M is remarkably better than Intel HD 4000, though. |

Need to have laptop I can carry around to classes with a long battery life so having the best gaming laptop is not a priority.
