I'm quite new here, and I love reading people's story.
I'd like to try making a story myself when pcm 2012 is released.
Can someone with a little more experience give me some tips and hints, please? Like, how to take the screenshots without the rider's names appearing on the screen? And do many people do stories around 2 invented riders? |

This guide is a few years old by now, but it's really worth reading. It taught me the basics.
Ctrl + U - Remove all the interface, including names, circles, profiles and rider bars.
Ctril + T - Take a screenshot.

Motivation.
If you don't have motivation and you don't love the team you manage and make story with. You will not go far

Well, motivation is the essential ingredient to a good story, as Alakagom already mentioned. Since I think I can consider myself a rather experienced story writer by now, I might as well give you (and others) some advice:
- Do not underestimate the time that creating a story takes. The amount of course depends on the efforts you take, but if you want a more elaborate story with a nice layout and maybe some graphics, it'll take some time. Cropping screenshots, copying results etc.
- The best way to "learn" is to read existing stories. Think about which stories you like the best and why. Adopt basic elements but don't copy unique parts. Creating something unique yourself would be the icing on the cake (it's not necessary, though). Also, don't feel forced to include certain elements. For instance, most people (including myself) do monthly reviews, but I don't think it's a must-do.
- Write your story as an end in itself. You should enjoy the process of creating reports, otherwise you won't get far. I know from experience that it's always great to get comments but there are always times when comments are rare. You should be able to come though those times.
- Try to write reports before actually starting the story. Start for instance a small stage race, start with a small preview and do two or three reports. You can experiment a lot with layouts and stuff and you will soon know which way of writing a story suits you (or if it might not suit you at all). You can watch them if you click preview when creating a reply or a thread.
- Don't force yourself to write. I would always advice you to have another career going for the case that you want to play but don't want to write a report. Otherwise, PCM can be a very frustrating thing. And if you have several days or even weeks without feeling like writing another report - don't! The reports won't be that good and you can quickly lose interest in the story completely. The need to write will return, believe me. And if it doesn't - well, that's no problem either.
I think that's the basics, at least that's what came to my mind spontaneously. I hope it helps.

It helps a lot, thanks.
I think the biggest problem will be time, since I'll be going to university next year. I'll have to think it over. But those are some great headers, thanks. |

Wish I'd read that guide before I started my story! I need to improve mine for sure but I'll stick with it. I'm by no means an expert but I've followed many a story in the past that were given up on. So my advice is stick with it!! |
