Hey, I think it's becoming tradition me starting all those threads
We begin the Ardeenes Classics with Amstel Gold Race :
Most of the time the race is all about positioning and uphill sprint.
Fleche Wallone
It's all about Huy and it's uphill sprint here as well.
LIÈGE-BASTOGNE-LIÈGE
The most interesting Ardennes classics out of the 3. That's why it's the monument and most prestigious one to win. Unpredictable at that as well.
So will Gilbert repeat his treble from last year or there will be someone new to take his crown ?

There's problem in the Amstel.
A cop strike is putting at risk the race. |

Hey, I did point it out that we needed one in the Other Races thread. Surely that must be the reason why Alakagom started this one.

After todays race in Belgium I don't see Gilbert winning one of the classics this year, but Sagan also fell today so let's hope it's not to bad. The Amstel parcours is changed this year: after the Keutenberg it's 2km less to the finish so it should be easier for a rider that escaped!
RIP Wouter Weylandt, siempre con noi

I think he could. Only problem would be fresh guys comming from Pais Vasco etc. who haven't raced a heavy cobbled season.

Back to Gilbert, I don't think that he can win any of the 3 races this year. I would like to see one of the Schleck's winning (will they be there?) but my 2 favorites are Valverde and Sagan. |

There's no way that'll happen. Andy simply doesn't give a shit about these races and I don't think Frank is strong enough. He has podium capacity though.
Quite sure they're racing at least, but don't expect anything from them.

Uhh, that's harsh:
2008
4th Liège–Bastogne–Liège
2009
1st Liège–Bastogne–Liège
2nd La Flèche Wallonne
10th Amstel Gold Race
2010
6th Liège–Bastogne–Liège
9th La Flèche Wallonne
2011
3rd Liège–Bastogne–Liège
He's looking crap in the last races though, but then again Andrew always does in prep races. With Gilbert in bad form, and Valverde being a huge question mark, Frändy have a good chance, but Purito is the big favurite imo.

Don't forget last years he also always attacked in the Amstel Gold Race. Not always getting a result but he has to take risks because he can't wait till cauberg.
He definately gives a shit about this races. But this year I REALLY doubt his form. He even skipped Pais Vasco to do sarthe and was horrible in Brabantse Pijl.
I mean if he finished in the Gilbert/T.Dekker group then I'd still believe in Andy (because he's in form really fast). But now? Hmhm
Hard to believe unless he was really riding on hart rate again! |

True that. I have doubts about his form too, but as I said, it's really hard to know with him. But he's definitely been crap lately, even for his prep races standard.

Sorry if it sounded harsh. Words look much stronger when written, since you can't see the facial expression.
Sure, he has been decent a couple of times, but as most people say, he cares about the Tour and LBL. Last year's Amstel attack wouldn't have happened if Cancellara and Frank hadn't crashed. That was Cancellara's role for sure.
But apart from his crap form, the main reason I don't expect to see him in form this year is because of what he said in that interview a couple of months ago. Something like "I haven't focused enough on the Tour in the past", and that this season it's all about it, like it hadn't already been like that before.
