Saxo Bank Sungard Extreme @ Tour Down Under

Saxo Bank Sungard Team Presentation

2011 is going to be a beautiful year for the Saxo Bank Sungard Team. Despite the fact that the Schleck brothers and Cancellara have left the team, with the signing of Contador we still have a very strong team. Contador will mostly focus on winning the Grand Boucle again and will race several races in the early season to prepare optimally for the Tour de France. Besides Contador, Saxo Bank Sungard also has signed several young and talented riders who will shine during the various races. Nuyens for example will take on the Flemisch and Wallonian classics in the early season. Porte will take care of some of the shorter multi-stage races and most likely will be our man for the Giro d'Italia, supported by Chris Anker Sorensen. Haedo will be our guy in the mass sprints. Our leader for the Vuelta will be either Contador or Navarro, depending on the shape of both riders at the very end of the season. Difficulty will be extreme and financial difficulty will be normal. Database is PCMdaily 2011DB.

By 'No 2011 race results yet' I assume you're going to update this post with every result the riders get? If yes, very nice idea.

Good luck for this, on extreme gonna be fun. Hopefully Contador won't need a mechanical problem to win the TdF Pfft And, of course, no Spanish meat Pfft

YES

Good luck for this, on extreme gonna be fun. Hopefully Contador won't need a mechanical problem to win the TdF

Contador is not one of my favorite riders for obvious reasons, but Saxo Bank is one of my favorite teams with a good looking shirt. I'm bad at sprinting at extreme and really want to have a 80+ climber in my squad to score at least some points. Difficult is too easy for me. Extreme a little too extreme but we will see what happens. Anyways, Liquigas and Geox are no options as their shirts are just too ugly. Euskaltel is too boring with only Basque riders in their squad. Leopard is just too good. I like a challenge, hence the extreme mode. Vacansoleil is also nice, but Mosquera is also questionable. Rabobank is just not my team. Thus overall Saxo Bank is the best choice for me.

And, of course, no Spanish meat

Only water and energy gel for Contador. But I have to admit that I do not know if there is any clenbuterol in energy gel. Perhaps UCI should investigate.

Porte is the best Australian ITT rider within the Saxo Bank Sungard squad and will try to take the Australian ITT jersey. His biggers rivals for the victory are Rogers, Evans and the Meyer brothers. The Australian ITT comes at a strange time within the season as none of the riders will attempt to peak already early in january. It is therefore difficult to do any predictions...

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/MeyerT_OZ_ITT.jpg
Thomas Meyer was the first rider to set a fast time: 56'16".

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Lancaster_OZ_ITT.jpg
It was almost immediately beaten by Brett Lancaster, who clocked 56'02".

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Bobridge_OZ_ITT.jpg
This time stayed long on the clock as Jack Bobridge,

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Parker_ITT_OZ.jpg
Dale Parker,

Cameron Meyer

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Sutherland_ITT_OZ.jpg
and Rory Sutherland all did not match the fastest time of Brett Lancaster.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Hansen_OZ_ITT.jpg
Eventually the time was beaten by Adam Hansen, who clocked 55'50".

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Rogers_OZ_ITT.jpg
Michael Rogers immediately set a faster time with 55'35" with only Ritchie Porte and Cadel Evans still underway.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Porte_ITT_OZ.jpg
Ritchie Porte dissapointed and finished at 8th place.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Evans_ITT_OZ.jpg
Cadel Evans was the fastest rider today. He beats the time of Michael Rogers and is the new Australian ITT Champion.

Porte is the leader of Team Saxo Bank Sungard in the Australian National Championships but will fierce strong competition from riders like Evans, Rogers, Haussler, Lloyd and Gerrans. Since there are only few strong squads present and the stage is fairly difficult it is important to have riders in the breakaway. Roberts, Tanner and Cooke will try to get in an early escape. The ones left behind will support Porte in the final of the race.

171 km: 51 riders start for the 2011 National Championship Cycling.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC19.jpg
150 km: After several attemps to get away Roberts, Dickeson, Anderson and Hayman attack and form a leading group. They quickly take 2'00" on the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC20.jpg
137 km: Parker gets away from the pack and tries to link up with the attackers. He is followed by Sanderson, Calabria, Bobridge and Cooke.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC22.jpg
50 km: The leading group has increased its gap with the pack to more than 8 minutes and managed to increase it to 9 minutes with only 30 kilometers to the finish.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC24.jpg
16 km: The winner is going to come from the leading group. Anderson is the first one to plan his move. He attacks, but does not get away. More than 6 minutes behind him Lloyd an Evans are trying to get away from the pack. For them it is too late. They will not take the victory today.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC25.jpg
6 km: On the last climb of the day Cooke rides away from the other attackers. Roberts has dropped behind after he did a lot of work.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC26.jpg
2 km: The organisation in the following group is gone. They are not going to capture Cooke who is going full speed to the finish.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC27.jpg
Finish: Cooke wins! A great result for the Saxo Bank Sungard team.

Thanks. I was a bit lucky as none of the favourites managed to make the jump to the leading group. With Roberts protecting Cooke in the last three laps Cooke could start the last lap with a full yellow bar. When Anderson attacked Cooke could counter with "dot" on 80. After that it was just going full speed ("dot" on +95) on the steep section...

The Tour Down Under is typically a race for the sprinters. With amongs others Benatti, Cavendish and Greipel at the start there is not a lot a big change for Team Saxo Bank to win the Tour Down Under in the mass sprints. Alternatively, the winner of the Tour Down Under comes from a decisive breakaway. It is therefore important to take part in every attack. Otherwise there are still the Haedo brothers for the very flat mass sprints.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC29.jpg
137 km: 151 riders start for the first stage of the Tour Down Under. There is a small climb in the early part of the race. After that it will mostly be flat with a slightly difficult finish. Expectations are that there will be a mass sprint at the finish, but we'll see.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC30-1.jpg
123 km: Several attempts are place for a breakaway to get away. Cooke, Sijmens and Pinfold attack on the Skoda King of the Mountain climb.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC31-1.jpg
120 km: Pinfold takes the Skoda King of the Mountain jersey as he is on top of the only climb of today. Cooke and Sijmens follow.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC32-1.jpg
111 km: Garcia Acosta, Leezer, Kostyuk, Downing and Beyer make the jump to the leading group where the organisation is immediately disturbed.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC33-1.jpg
97 km: Sijmens attacks but is caught a little later. Apparently he was no longer amused with the organisation in the breakway, while Lancaster just joined the breakaway.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC34.jpg
89 km: Cooke takes the first intermediate sprint in Jayco before Lancaster and Leezer.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC35.jpg
83 km: Leezer has created a small gap with the rest of the breakaway and takes the second intermediate sprint. When Leezer is caught, Pinfold makes his move and jumps away. There is no organisation in the breakaway and it seems unlikely they are going to stay away. They only have a 4 minute gap with the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC36.jpg
57 km: The breakaway is caught by the pack and Pinfold is leading alone at a 2'41" gap.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC37.jpg
54 km: Quinziato, Hondo and Krivtsov got away from the pack and try to get to the lead of the race

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC38.jpg
12 km: It doesn't matter. Eventually everybody is caught and the destined mass sprint is unavoidable.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC39.jpg
Finish: Sutton brings home the bacon. He wins the first stage of the Tour down Under before Haedo and Weylandt.

Great win in the Aussie Champs, always great to start the season with a win Smile

Just some things:

It's a great idea the rider Palmares in the first post, but just an advice: I think you better not post all results like
Luke ROBERTS
34th @ Australian National ITT Championships

else it's gonna be too much work. Course, it's your story and that's up to you, but I think that only the best results (let's say, stages Top 10 and classics Top 20, f.e.) would be easier =)

Also, looks like you take screenshots with printscreen. You can also press Ctrl+T for that, I find its easier. Oh, and also you can remove names by pressing 'Tab', or remove everything (while playing 3D, not possible in 'replay'Wink by pressing Ctrl+U.

Lastly, I don't find it necessary to post like the 10 best 'team results'. 3 or 5 should be fine. Same for other classifications/results. For me, at least, it just looks better without that lot of writing. And, again, up to you to do or not =)

Ps.: it's always you that should decide whether changing or not something. We usually do not change things only because of other people because that can takes a bit of motivation on us. And, ofc, the most impressive stories are usually the longest, where the writer keeps motivated for a long time Smile

That's basically all, great result with Haedo in stage 1. Good luck for the rest of TDU, looking forward for the next reports Wink

Thanks lluuiiggii
I've been looking for the button to remove the names for a long time. For now I will stick to my format a bit longer. See if it works. I may change the palmares section later if it gets too crowded. It is easy to delete stuff. And yes, I do admit that I'm a detailfreak...

SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER Stage 2
Tailem Bend - Mannum
145 km
i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC42.jpg

Another stage destined to finish in a mass sprint. Nevertheless it remains important to have riders in the daily breakaway as valuable bonus seconds can be earned and if it makes it to the finish and your riders are not in the breakaway all changes of a good result are lost.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC43.jpg
145 km. All 154 riders are departing for the second stage of the Santos Tour Down Under.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC44.jpg
135 km. Wyss and Stauff escape from the pack. Behind them several other riders try to escape as well. With the bonus seconds at the intermediate sprints there is a lot to gain by these attacks. Tosatto is the first one to join up with Wyss and Stauff quickly followed by Kondrut. Later on also Iglinskiy, Mondory, Vantomme, Keough, Madrazo, Appollonio, Demaret, Rollin, Talabardon, Aramendia, Dean and Vermeltfoort join.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC45.jpg
110 km. They pack did not allow such a large breakaway and got them back quickly. Dean and Tabalardon go for a second attempt and are followed by another large group with Demaret, Madrazo, Vermeltfoort, Rollin, Chicchi, Iglinskiy, Aramendia, Kondrut and Tosatto. Eventually they join to form a breakaway of eleven riders.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC46.jpg
90 km. Demaret takes the first intermediate sprint. for some reason nobody sprints for the intermediate sprints at the TDU, so I also won't. Hopefully this is only the case for this race and not a PCM10 issue(?)

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC47.jpg
80 km. Tosatto takes the mountain sprint for the one and only climb for today. The leaders now have a 4'17" lead on the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC48.jpg
50 km. As so often the pack does not want to give up the stage to the breakaway. Team Sky defending the leaders jersey of Sutton increases the pace. Besides Sutton they also have Henderson in their squad.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC49.jpg
41 km. Vermeltfoort takes the second intermediate sprint before Chicchi and Dean. The lead on the pack has dropped to 3'24".

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC50.jpg
8 km. With also the teams of the other sprinters cooperating in the persuit of the leading group the gap vanishes quickly to a couple of seconds with still 8 kilometers to go. It is no suprise that they do not make it to the finish. It is going to be a mass sprint.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC51.jpg
Finish. Christopher Sutton also takes the second stage in the Tour Down Under. Did he peak very early or it is going to be his year. Poor Quinziato had a flat in the very last section of the race and finishes at great distance of the pack. His changes for a victory are gone.

Strong rides by Sutton so far. It was a good stage for Saxo too, Haedo in Top 10, and with that he keeps his 2nd overall Smile

SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER Stage 3
Unley - Stirling
122 km

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC53.jpg

With a difficult finish it is going to be very hard for Haedo to set a good finish. Today Team Saxo Bank Sungard will attempt to win the sprint with Cooke. Moreover it is planned to try something with Sorensen and to take part in the breakaway.

122 km. All 154 riders depart for the third stage of the Tour Down Under.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC55.jpg
110 km. Garcia Acosta, Roberts, Poulhies, Kostyuk and Mondory manage to get away early in the race. Initially they did not get a large gap with the pack, but after some persistence it gradually grows to over a minute. Keough, Maes, Arguelyes, Urtasun and Appollonio join the attackers a little later.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC56.jpg
90 km. Kostyuk takes the first intermediate sprint. The attackers have a 4 minute lead on the pack. The second intermediate sprint is taken by Poulhies.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC57.jpg
41 km. Kostyuk is the first one on top of the Skoda King of the Mountain climb for today. The riders are going to take this hill three times today, but only the first passage will count for the mountain standings.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC58.jpg
22 km. With the lead on the pack dwindling, Urtasun makes his move. He places an attack on the steepest part of the track. His attack is countered and after several other attacks all attackers reunite.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC59.jpg
9 km. With the finishline getting close, Mondory places an attack. The pack is really close now and all attackers including Mondory are caught a little later.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC60.jpg
5 km. Perez fell at a really bad moment. He has gotten help from some of his teammates but it does not help a lot. They all are going to finish far behind the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC61.jpg
Finish. It is Fischer who takes the victory today before Ongarato and Geslin.

Saxo Bank Sungard is not a very strong squad and consequently they wil not dominate every race. I think the Saxo riders did the best they could the last stage and most important Haedo and Cooke did not loose any time and are still looking good for a top 10 finish. If one of them is still there at the end of the TDU I'm happy.

SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER Stage 4
Norwood - Strathalbyn
125 km
i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC63.jpg

A very flat race again so there are possibilities for Haedo. It remains important to have riders in the breakaway just in case it makes it to the finish.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC64.jpg
125 km. All 154 riders are at the start of the 4th stage of the Tour Down Under.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC65.jpg
113 km. Roberts, Rollin, Kostyuk, Iglinskiy, Madrazo and Wyss manage to slip away from the pack on some of the difficult climbs in the very first section of the stage. Hondo joins a little later as do Appollonio, Roulston and Vantomme. Later on also Stybar, Trussov, Isasi and Lang join the group. At that time also the pace of the pack has increased and the huge breakaway is caught.

94 km. Kostyuk is the first one to arrive on the Skoda King of the Mountain climb of the day.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC67.jpg
89 km. Goddaert takes the intermediate sprint before Henderson and Hutarovich.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC68.jpg
80 km. Sorensen and Appollonio get away from the pack and very quickly get a decent gap formed. But with only two riders it is a long way to the finish. At the second intermediate sprint they were caught as the sprinters teams increased the pace. Appollonio and Sorensen passed just before Goddaert, who did a great business for the general standings.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC69.jpg
18 km. Besides the fact that it started to rain nothing really happend in the last 60 kilometers of todays stage.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC70.jpg
Finish. The last part of the stage is really difficult and many riders reach the finish exhausted. The high pace, difficult climbs and bad weather was a real dealbreaker here.

SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER Stage 5
McLaren Vale - Willunga
131 km
i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC72.jpg

A difficult stage with two climbs in the final part. Key is to protect Haedo in order to keep in high in the general standings. Cooke will again try to be in front for the sprint and Sorensen will try to stay with riders like Schleck and Nibali if they try something. Also we want riders in the breakaway.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC73.jpg
132 km. Direct from the start several riders are trying to get away. This stage is probably going to decide who is going to win the Tour Down Under. It is important to have riders in the front of the race. The pack does not allow them to go yet.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC74.jpg
108 km. Another attempt for a breakaway. Steegmans takes the intermediate sprint before Appollonio and Cooke. From the disorganisation around the intermediate sprint a leading group of 13 riders emerges which quickly gets a lead of 4'28 on the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC75.jpg
68 km. Cooke takes the second intermediate sprint before Clarke, Simon, Kostyuk, Aramendia, Selander, Steegmans, Ventoso, Pliuschin, Berard, Van Poppel, Appollonio and Viviani. They have a 3'53" lead on the pack.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC76.jpg
40 km. Cooke determines the pace of the leading group on the first hill and is also allowed by the others to take the mountain points.

35 km. Chicchi is the first one of the favourites to drop from the pack. Quickstep immediately sends back helpers in order to bring Chicchi back to the front.

20 km. The breakaway is caught on the second climb of the day. Aramendia is the last one to give up. But only after winning the second mountain sprint.

Finish. It is Frank Schleck who takes the victory after this difficult stage. McEwen finishes second followed by Cooke.

SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER Stage 6
Adelaide - Adelaide
87 km
i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC81-1.jpg

With Cooke in second position it is key to protect him and bring him to the finish safely. The stage is short and flat so it should be perfect for Haedo.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC82-1.jpg
87 km. All 154 riders start for the 6th stage of the Tour Down Under. It is going to be a fast short race to the finish. A stage perfectly suited for the sprinters.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC83-1.jpg
67 km. Several riders try to break away from the pack but never get a whole lot of room to succeed.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC84-1.jpg
51 km. Chicchi takes the first intermediate sprint before Ravard and Bennati. Nobody gets away from the pack and also the first mountain sprint (Geslin), second intermediate sprint (Goss) and second Skoda King of the Hill sprint (Neyens) were taken with the pack intact.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC85-1.jpg
4 km. Due to the nervosity of the riders, the crowding in the front and the many falls of several riders, the pack breaks in several pieces. Some riders are going to loose heavily here.

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/PIC86-1.jpg
Finish. A very crowded finish with a little hill that ruined the changes of quite some of the favourits. Benatti seemed to be the strongest today but he started the sprint a little early and it was quite suprisingly Barredo who took the victory. Several riders incl. Bennati stopped sprinting 300 m before the finish where the mountain sprint lies. This seems to bug the stage.

Which patch is recommended to get (more) realistic results? For example to have riders sprinting for intermediate sprints and KoM points. And to have more fragmented groups at difficult mountain stages and hilly classics. Now the pack finishes in a > 80 rider group. Totally unrealistic.

Well, patch 1.0.4.1 is the best if you are only playing in single player mode, but if you are playing multiplayer, you will need 1.0.4.2.
