With the future of Saxo Bank and Danish cycling not looking to good, only few days before the start of the new 2010 season, the leaders of the CSC group decided to bring back their sponsorship to cycling by creating a brand new Continental Team.
Most of the Saxo Bank riders decided to leave Riis' team and join the new CSC team, the only big guns that chose to stay with Riis were surprisingly the Schleck Brothers. Cancellara, Breschel, Voigt, O'Grady and others annulled their contracts with Saxo Bank to be able to ride under the CSC colors once again.
Several other stars that rode for CSC in the past were also announced to be part of the new team, as well as some Danish young talents. Basso, Sastre, Kolobnev, Michael Rasmussen and Vande Velde also left their current teams in order to join their former team - mates from Saxo Bank in the new Danish team.
In this first new season the team will have to focus on the small races from the Continental Tour in order to get a Pro Tour license for next year. But with so many stars in the team it shouldn't be too hard to get some PT wildcards this year either.

Win, Vuelta a Espana
Win, Ronde van Vlaanderen
Win, Post Danmark Rundt
Top 3, Tour De France
Top 3, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Top 10, Tre Valli Varesine
CSC is definitely a sponsor used with the big races and top results in them. Three of this year's goals show that better than anything.
The main goal will be to win the Vuelta, where Sastre will be leading the team. The Spaniard will count on the support of Vande Velde and he will have to ride his best home GT yet in order to keep the money coming.
Before reaching the Vuelta, both of them will have to work for Basso in the Tour de France though. The competition is going to from the very best in France and in order to have a real shot at the podium, Ivan Basso will be skipping the Giro this year.
Our third big goal of the season is winning the second monument of the year. With Cancellara leading the team and with Breschel and O'Grady as his main domestiques it shouldn't be too hard to achieve this goal but anything can happen on the Belgian cobblestones.
25 riders will represent the CSC team this year. In the next rows you can find out who they are, when they previously rode for CSC, if they did their former team.

Your squad looks extremely strong, so you will definitely win several continental races to get wildcards for Tour and Vuelta. |

I know, but only going there won't be enough. Basso and Sastre will also have to be in top form to compete with the best in the Tour and the Vuelta. And if they will ride too much in the CT then they could be out of shape for the GTs.

Strong team. I hope for a double win with Basso at Giro - Tour or Basso to win the Tour. Will be interesting to read as you progress. |

Basso won't be at the Giro because I will not apply for an wildcard
All three Grand Tours for a new team would be a little bit too much even if it is this strong.

Aussie Championships
Individual Time - trial
Cadel Evans destroyed the competition in the first race of the new year. The World RR Champion finished with the time of 55 minutes and 20 seconds. Only Richie Porte was able to finish less than one minute behind him to take the second place, while Cameron Meyer completed the podium.
Both Luke Roberts and Stuart O'Grady had an easy start of their season, finishing more than 2 minutes behind the BMC rider.
Results
1. | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | 55'20 | 2. | Richie Porte | Team Saxo Bank | + 56 | 3. | Cameron Meyer | Garmin - Transitions | + 1'04 | 4. | Adam Hansen | Team HTC - Columbia | + 1'08 | 5. | Michael Rogers | Team HTC - Columbia | + 1'35 |
Road Race
After the first lap a group of seven riders broke away from the Australian pack: Sutton, King, Dempster, Docker, Lancaster, Kersten and Calabria. And as a few specialists were expecting the pack didn't fight too much to bring them back, which gave the escapes a great chance to take the green and yellow jersey.
With 2 laps to go, Mitch Docker attacked from the leading group and no one was able to follow him. The Skil rider spent the last kilometers of the race alone in front of the race and took a solo victory.
Docker celebrating the biggest win of his career
Behind him, Sutton won the sprint for the second place in front of Calabria and Lancaster. Evans was the first rider to arrive at the finish behind the breakaway group, which gave him the 8th place in the race. O'Grady showed a slight improvement from the time - trial, finishing 13th.
Results
1. | Mitchell Docker | Skil - Shimano | 4h43'45 | 2. | Christopher Sutton | Sky Professional Cycling Team | + 44 | 3. | Fabio Calabria | Team Type 1 | s.t. | 4. | Brett Lancaster | Cervélo Test Team | s.t. | 5. | Benjamin King | Trek Livestrong U23 | s.t. |

Plenty of strong riders in the first Pro Tour race of the year. But being some early in the season it is very hard to predict what will happen. A sprint could take home the general classification but the attackers also have their chance in the 3rd or the 5th stage.
Even though neither Cavendish or Greipel are riding here, Boonen, Bennati, Farrar and Davis will present at the start of the new edition of the Down Under tour, keeping the sprint level quite high.
Voigt and O'Grady will try to show that we deserved an wildcard here, both looking maybe for an attack in one of the stages where a mass sprint could be avoided.
Team CSC line-up:
Jens Voigt
Frank Hoj
Thomas Vedel Kvist
Anders Lund
Stuart O'Grady
Martin Pedersen
Luke Roberts

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 1
The first stage in Down Under is a classic Aussie one, made for sprinters. At the end of the stage we will know who is in shape so early and the season and able to fight for the general classification crown
Six riders went in the day's main breakaway but even though riders such as Bernucci, Klemme or Rabobank's Nick Nuyens, they had no chance against the pack, lead perfectly by the sprinters teams, especially Quick Step and Liquigas.
AG2R's David Le Lay was first at the top of the only categorized climb of the day and he is the first King of the Mountains of this years TDU.
With the escapes caught quite a long way before the finish, the stage headed to the expected mass sprints, where everyone wanted to get a place in front of the pack.
There were several sprint trains made, but the fastest one was clearly the one made by Liquigas' Mauro Finetto for Daniele Bennati. Lorenzetto and Pedersen also made a very good decision in the early phases of the sprint, by following the green jerseys.
Inside the final kilometer, Bennati made his move from Finetto's wheel and marched away to take the stage win and the leaders jersey as neither Lorenzetto or Pedersen were able to challenge him.
