I was very happy with the Portuguese riders. Nothing great, but for a first day it was nice to see their work for their teammates. |

Do you mean the quality of the picture, or just that you dislike Universal Sports?
Here in Canada, for the Giro we just got the Eurosport broadcast. We're getting the Universal Sports broadcast for the Vuelta though.
The quality of picture. Commentary could use some work but one of them kind of knows what he's talking about most of the time.
We got BeIn Sport for the Giro, which I'm pretty sure was the Eurosport broadcast, as it had the same overlays, and rather than the commentators doing the outros, they have a special guy do it. Then we had Vs. (NBC Sports) do it for the Tour like always and now Universal Sport for the Vuelta.

Dude, your comment made me LMAO. Tour of Qinghai, nice But it's not too often i see Portuguese riders instead of Rui Costa and Tiago Machado doing praisable work every race they ride. |

Pretty impressive for someone to beat D.Moreno over a ~300m uphill effort imo.
My velogames team is looking decent after this, but I think my picks of E.Martinez and T.Kangert will hold me back from a big result. |

Stage 3 - Vigo to Mirador De Lobeira (184.4 KM)
La Vuelta a Espana continues its love affair with the rugged Galician landscape for a third stage. As the race journeys 184.8km from the city of Vigo to the Category 3 climb of Mirador De Lobeira. How heartbroken the sprinters must feel about Stage 3, as the parcours begin with a love letter to the fast-men before running away with the puncheurs near the end.
Before the peloton can begin to contemplate ascending the Mirador De Lobeira there is the matter of the coastal winds. With the majority of the stage utilising the local coastal roads, the peloton will have to be constantly alert to the danger of strong winds. The wind direction will nominally be a headwind. However, the roads shall see the peloton cycle in every possible direction, so there will be opportunities to potentially split the peloton during a crosswind.
During an otherwise featureless stage, the ascent of the Mirador De Lobeira will probably be the highlight of the day. The Category 3 climb will eliminate all but the hardiest of sprinters and favours the climbing abilities and explosiveness of the puncheurs. Whilst only 250m above sea level, the Mirador De Lobeira, at an average gradient of 5.7% over a distance of 4.2km, will sort the wheat from the chaff.
Stage Favourites & Wildcards
The average gradient for the final 1000m is calculated to be about 5%, so the sprint for the finish line shall not be easy on the legs. With that in mind there are at least two names which come to the fore as favourites. Philippe Gilbert of BMC has been reinforcing the myth of the World Champions jersey with a relatively barren spell of victories. However, with greater freedom to pursue his own goals in la Vuelta the Belgium could repeat last year's stage victory.
Meanwhile, Orica-GreenEDGE have been talking about having two riders suited to the stage finish. Directeur sportif Matt Wilson revealed that the Australian outfit would take a wait and see approach before choosing their candidate. So whilst I would favour Simon Gerrans for a crack at the stage victory, Michael Matthews could also be a factor should he have the better form on the day.
Once again Joaquim Rodriguez (Purito) of Team Katusha could, on paper, be a contender for the stage victory. With Vincenzo Nibali opening up a gap of over half a minute to the Catalan, 'Purito' will ideally want to diminish the time gap. However, his Spanish team mate Daniel Moreno may once again be let off the leash to pursue some personal glory instead.
Just who is the General Classification rider at Movistar? Alejandro Valverde has stated categorically he would prefer to chase stage victories and the World Championships. Yet Valverde is also Movistar's best bet for a high standing in the General Classification. Regardless, the Spaniard could be a contender for the stage victory, in part thanks to his explosiveness and decent sprint from a reduced bunch. Though he may wish to again keep his powder dry for another day.
Fresh from two stage victories and claiming the overall victory at the Eneco Tour. I personally think Zdenek Stybar may be a dark horse for the stage victory. Omega Pharma – Quick-Step (OPQS) will likely decide to support Gianni Meersman, but should the Czech rider receive the freedom to instigate or follow the winning move he could surprise. Otherwise certainly keep an eye out for the OPQS team and Gianni Meersman, who on paper arguably has the ability to compete for the victory.
Some of other candidates whom could, depending on the race situation, chance their luck are; Edvald Boasson Hagen of Team Sky, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg or Nikias Arndt of Argos-Shimano, and Maxim Iglinskiy of Team Astana. Should we see a Stage 2 repeat, I favour the riders without an interest in the General Classification, or domestique duties, to drive for the stage victory.
An otherwise "boring" sprint stages has a change of heart near the finish. With the climb of the Mirador De Lobeira on that threshold between being an uphill sprint for the sprinters and a finish for the puncheurs, who will win out?
Philippe Gilbert should have the freedom to chase the stage victory should he so wish, but his season so far counts against him. Whilst Orica-GreenEDGE come with a double punch. Personally I wouldn't be entirely surprised if someone unexpected conquers the stage. It only takes one mistake for someone to either go early and blow out or leave it too late to open their sprint. |

Not taking anything away from Roche, but Moreno doesn't seem to be in top form, or at least not as good as last year. Could be age-related, of course.

I don't expect much from the favourites tomorrow. Reduced bunch sprint, so the only ones with even the slightest chance are Valverde and Moreno.
