Kents edits to 1.3
Kentaurus
Okay I'm going to try and make some edits to the 1.3 to make starting a career fit a bit better. This is going to look mainly at the specializations of riders (which determines their potentials) and then at building a better set of .xml files for specializations to become more accurate as well.

EDIT: After looking at this, someone did take the time to work the specializations out and did a tremendous job. There aren't enough worth changing, and and little change could also change other riders to different roles as well.

So instead I'm going to work on the .xml files to make this work better. I'll post here when I'm done.

Which DB are you talking about concerning the specializations? And good luck with the .xml files. The young rider ones you've done are included in the latest PCMDaily DB, hopefully you can improve the game even more in this rider progression part Wink

The specializations looked very good, only a very few riders did I think looked wrong. The base game I could get 3-4 riders per team, this expansion most teams were spot on, only a few riders here and there that are almost impossible to pull into the categories they should be (Sanchez, Purito, De Gendt) were still out.

As the the progressions, that is the young rider xmls, it controls everything in the world of potentials for all of the riders. I want to try and see if I can make specializations like TT have more room for secondary stats, allowing riders like Wiggens to be technically a TT specialization but also able to get up into the 80s in other stats like mountain, or like Cancellara and be able to have 80s in cobbles. It should also encourage more riders like Tony Martin to be good in small tours while still being a TT rider.

Also I want to consider a way to make there be a very small chance for another Sagan type rider with a specialization of either Ardennes or Sprint, basically trying to give the uphill sprinter a chance to develop both hill and sprint categories. (Gilbert would be an example of that type of rider from the Ardennes specialization).

Lastly like everything else I want to get more testing in for balance.

Yeah with these tables I thought getting 95% of riders right would be the best way to go and there are always going to be riders who are hard to classify, particular fighters like De Gendt who could also be considered TT riders or even climbers. Same with LuLu. Either way a lot of the credit for those tables goes to you. I based it off your work initially and just took the idea a bit further.

I like the idea of playing with the potential tables. I would maybe consider staying away from the cobbles/TT match up as Cancellara is the only one who really comes to mind in that category. The Ardennes/Sprinter one sounds promising for sure though.

Well Cancellara is the only one that rides that style at an elite level in both, but riders like Lars Bak are good at both, Phinney isn't that bad on the cobbles, same with Hincapie. Chavanel is good for both cobbles and TTs. While these riders aren't to the level of Cancellara (who should be an 8 potential) they can fit in the lower potentials which should still give them the chance to be good at both. And allow for new riders to have those types of potentials.
