I have tried to create my own stages and then follow previous instructions on how to play them in the game, but I've had problems.
I'm wondering whether someone could post a step by step guide on how to play your own stages from the stage editor onwards.
Thanks. |

Well, there are two ways: to test them or to create a race with them.
To test them: just replace them with any stage in Program Files/Cyanide/PCM12/CM_stages (make a backup of the original stages, then place your stages there and rename them, later pasting the original ones back).
Creating a race with them:
1. Export the stages from the Stage Editor, which should give you a .zces and a .cds file.
2. Open the DB with an editor (but not the official one, can be the Full Editor or Excel Editor), more specifically table STA_race. Add a new line with a new (unused) ID, and fill the tables:
Spoiler gene_sz_race_name: Name of the race
gene_sz_race_name_nolicence: Just put the same thing of the above one
gene_sz_race_abbreviation: Abbreviation name of the race which will appear in the Calendar + Season Planner (it can't be too big, check with the other names to have an idea of the word size)
gene_sz_filename: the names of the stage files. Check here to know how to name it correctly.
fkIDcountry: well.. the country - see STA_country for the country IDs
fkIDnewUCIclass: choose the category of the race: 1.HC, 2.1 - see STA_UCI_class for this
fkIDseason_class: 0
First and last stage: the IDs of the first and last stages (if it's a classic, they'll be the same), which should be IDrace + 1000*stage_number
gene_f_popularity whatever you want the popularity of your race to be
gene_i_number_stages: number of stages of your race, 1 if it's a classic
game_b_isactive: make sure it's ticked/has a 1
gene_sz_mail_organisateur: email of the organization, put whatever you want
gene_ilist_fkID_team: list of teams that will appear when you play your race in single play and choose 'Real teams'
fkIDLastRaceLeader: 0
constant: whatever you like - basically it only defines the name of the race logo file, if you have one (* the race logo file should be placed on Program Files/Cyanide/PCM11/Gui/race_logo)
local_temp_count: 0
gene_sz_classification_xml: the file that will set the bonuses (points for points/KoM classement, time bonuses, etc).. normally each race category has one, and the major races have their own.
gene_f_organisateur_coeff: 0
gene_b_aso: organized by ASO or not;
gene_b_ForceProTour: if ticked (1 instead of 0), Pro Tour teams are forced to participate in the race.
3. Now go to STA_stage. This one should be much easier:
Spoiler IDstage: same thing -> IDrace + 1000*stage_number
fkIDrace: ID of the race
fkIDregion: region of the stage (see STA_region)
Gene_i_day and month: well... day and month
gene_i_stage_number: number of the stage in the race, if it's a classic it's 1
gene_b_selected: 1
fkIDclimat: the climat of the stage, take a look in STA_climat for the values
All others: zero, or nothing in case of the Constant column
4. Place your stages (.zces and .cds files) in My Docs/PCM12/Mod/Stages** (there have been some reports that the stages are not working when put there, but are working when placed in Program Files/Cyanide/PCM12/CM_Stages, so if the first doesn't work try this one).
** Sep 3rd update: Mod/Stages never worked and the patch that theorically would make it work (1.3.0.5) will never be released by Cyanide, so CM_Stages is where you should place the stages.
5. Export the DB, place it in My Docs/Mod/Database and choose it in game.
Any doubts, just ask

cheers.
Just one thing though. How do you access either the Full editor or Excel editor, and what do you mean by 'table STA_race'. |

Full Editor: https://pcmdaily.com/infusions/pro_dow...hp?did=485
Excel Editor: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=23342
Lachi's Editor: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=23257
The DB is made by several tables including different information each. STA_race is the information concerning races. STA_stage, concerning stages. After you open a DB with one of these editors you'll see them

Cheers mate, but I don't think I was meant to be able to do this.
I tried using all three in excel, (i'm using excel 2007), and all I get is some weird language. Basically, they don't work.
Thanks, though. |

You have to open the exe's of the DB editor matthew. Just dubbleclick on the exe.
Then, when you have opened the editor, you can open a database and adjust things. |

What do you mean 'weird language'? Can you post a screen for example?

Got the excel editor to work I think, but when I click 'Extract CDB', it says that I have to have three files in the same folder.

Got the excel editor to work, opened a CDB file. Filling in the columns. How do you fill in FfkIDfirst_stage column. |

Finally got everything working and I'm now playing my own stage. I just have a couple of questions,
1. I know how to force the pro tour teams to compete, but is there a way of actually making all the best riders compete.
2. How do you distinguish between a time trial and a normal race, and how does the game know whether it is a mountain stage or flat stage. |

1. It's quite complex, you'd need to add the race in the main rider's programs in STA_program. If you want to try it, you should check this thread:
https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=21647
The second option is to create a startlist. They aren't working normally, but Camacho has come up with a workaround by editing DYN_team_race in the DB. You can also do it for careers, but need to pay attention in overlapping races.
2. In earlier games it was set manually in the DB (except for variants since PCM10), but now everything concerning stages are read by the game (unfortunately imo). Depending on the toughness of the stage, the game might classify it as mountain or hilly.
Same goes for TT and RR. When making a time trial, you need to make sure that you have a TT start and the "Time Trial" setting in the finish, otherwise the game might recognize it as a RR stage.

That's exactly the point, it should now be easier to play variants as single race. All you need to do is name the stages correctly (read the first post to see how), then add a suffix to the files (which can either be a year in which the variant will appear in career mode or whatever you want), and choose it in single play. The description in the first post should clarify it all
What is a suffix?? Sorry, I'm not so good working with computers and stuff |

[Race prefix]_[number]_[suffix/version].cds
f.e:
Race prefix | Number | Suffix/version | top_tdf | 01 | v2 |
So top_tdf_01_v2 corresponds to the first stage of the 2nd variant of the TdF (number, btw, is only used for indicating the stage number - thus, only present in the name of stage race files).

Then the game is not finding the stages. Did you place the stages in CM_Stages? Are you sure the stage name is correct with the DB?
