Señor Frogs - Air Canada is now proud to present our team roster, broken down by the mini-teams. We are encouraged that we have a very strong young team, and many riders will be pushed into leadership roles early in their careers. We think this responsibility will help them develop not only as riders but more importantly as people representing their team, sport, country and the New World.

But we need your help! Each mini-team needs a nickname, please reply with some suggestions for the teams. They can be based on the riders, regions, or race results when we get into the season.

Training Camp, 4Jan-14Jan

It is still a little bit chilly in Santa Barbra, California, but with early season races in Argentina and Australia coming quickly it is time to get the riders back into race shape. Our first day here also is our first day as a whole team, and likely one of the few days when everyone is in one place. After a quick meet and greet we get everyone out on the road for a short ride, and I mean everyone, all 25 riders, scouts, trainers, even the medical staff and paper pushers. I felt a bit bad for the traffic we caused with our group riding in pairs twenty-something riders long. The ride was great though, everyone got a chance to stretch the legs out, laugh and have fun on the road. We concluded our first day with a large dinner before letting the men go free for the rest of the night.

Day two would be a long full team ride. An easy day for everyone, but it is time to see how we function as a team. Riders riding bikes, myself and road support team in cars following. The 6 hour ride had a few problems, which were expected and wanted, got the chance to do some tire changes, and a bike change with the riders. Teamwork looked good as a couple riders would drop back to help catch each other back up. Overall a successful day with the team.

The third day would be the first day for each Mini-Team. The riders were informed of this plan when they were signing with the team, so it isn't a shock to anyone but before now they didn't know who their mini-teammates would be. This will be a day for each mini-team to ride out on their own. No cars or support staff will be with them, it is their first test as a team to overcome any obstacles as a team. I'm sure there was plenty of shouting and frustration out on the road, but everyone came back with their teams and no one had any bruises or cuts.

Days 4-8 would mostly be the same, now into the serious part of the training, the riders would work in groups of 3 mini-teams with a car and staff going out with them. The riders were pushed and performed well. Moral seems to be high as riders are still having some fun. Watching J.J. and Keven race each other in a few sprints was a good test to see how we can do at the line. Now to get them to work in a train with Keven leading out for J.J. .......

The last two days were back to having a bit of fun along with some full team rides again. We handed out the schedules for each mini-team and started doing race prep for the Tour de San Luis and the Tour Down Under.

In a bit of other news, we should congratulate the Australian Champions, Simon Gerrans of Sky Procycling in the road race, and Michael Rogers also riding for Sky in the ITT.

Wow! You've quite an awesome team there, quite realistic choice of riders and both nice potential for the future as well as riders who already can perform well. Also, your report from the training camp is an enjoyable read, it seems that you have put a lot of thoughts into this, I like it a lot!

Alakagom
Agreed with Cunego on all of the points ! Very good team choice, not overpowering the team. Should be great one. Good luck Kentaurus Smile

Nice riders. I like your mini teams, and by the way I think you'll do well in Pro Continental races.

Notes: I am heading out of town today, will be back by the end of the week. So won't be able to actually play anything, but I do expect to work on the page some, probably looking at the format of how I want to do this.

Also I do need some team nicknames...Calling them Mini-team# for a whole season is going to get old.

The Tour de San Luis seems a perfect place to start our first season. A race in our own backyard and with a pair of Argentinians on the team ensure this will be special. Both Haedo and Pereyra will be involved in this race and we will count on them to shine in their homeland.

At first glance the Tour de San Luis looks like a great place for a puncher to get a win with it's three hilly category stages, but in detail two of those three are definitively mountain top finishes that will favor true climbers and the third has only a short plateau after a tough climb. A climber or stage race specialist will likely win the GC. Mini-team 5's Nairo Quintana will be our team leader and we expect him to contend for the Overall. This will be crucial as it is a sponsor object to finish in the Top 3.

Of the 4 remaining stages 3 of them are built for sprinters, and J.J. Haedo should be as good as anyone and we would love to see him get a stage win in Argentina and hopefully also win the points category. Local Andres Pereyra will be the biggest help to Quintana on the climbs, but will also be looking for opportunities to get KoM points when available early in a race. We also think that Taylor Phinney could challenge for a win in the individual time trial of stage 4. As expected we are all excited to start our season here in just a couple days.

Our first stage of the first race is about the most perfect place to start, we get an easy climb followed by a long gentle decent down to the sprint finish. Getting Pereyra some space for the mountain points could be a challenge, he will need to be in the early break to have any chance. After that during the decent we have to start focusing on setting up Haedo for the sprint finish. If everything goes smoothly we should end up with a win.

i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/13.jpg
The morning break starts early and strong, just a few KMs into the race it swells up to 12 members. We get Pereyra and East into the breakaway and leave the rest of the field to chase them down.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/14.jpg
Nearing the summit Pereyra attacks with the help of East as the pack closes in on the breakaway.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/15.jpg
Pereyra's attack gets him to the top first! East would take second just ahead of the peloton and they both rejoin the field quickly on the decent.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/16.jpg
A new break forms and Guillaume Boivin (Spidertech) gets the first sprint points of the race.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/17.jpg
Under the second banner the small breakaway has a close little race to themselves, won by Vytautas Kaupas (Differdange).
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/18.jpg
The breakaway gains around 5 minutes on the field with just over 50k left, Pereyra takes charge of the field and starts to pull them back.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/19.jpg
With 16k left the break is down to less than a minute lead, the team forms up for the sprint.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/110.jpg
Daryl Impey (NetApp) makes his move! Haedo sticks tight to Lacombe's wheel.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/111.jpg
J.J. Haedo surges to draw even with Impey just a few meters from the line, it's going to be close!
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/SFg/SanLuis/112.jpg
J.J. Haedo just gets by Impey for the win! Only a few inches separate the two riders, a great start to the season!

A terrific finish for J.J. Haedo in his home Argentina! And the Señor Frogs team is off to a perfect start. The team looked great and achieved every objective for this first race. Hopefully they can continue to perform at this level.

An amazing start for me, really didn't know if Haedo was going to have enough to catch up. In addition I've got to give out points to the mini-teams, Haedo picks up 1 point for his win, and I'm going to give Pereyra a point also for basically doing everything between kilometers 0 and 150.

Mini-Team 5: 1 point
Mini-Team 7: 1 point

I tried that, but I'm not sure it works on the replay which is when I take my pictures, I don't do it during the race itself. I agree that I don't like the circles and I like the names over the heads even less...
