World Championship 2025 - Discussion

The second road race goes to the breakaway as well, very interesting. Ndungu is an awesome winner from the perspective of African cycling with the first U23 win since Aidan.

We'll see how things play out in the Elite race. With stronger overall teams than in the B and U23 races, I think the peloton should have a better chance to control the breakaway. But depending on who will be in the group, we could also be in for another surprise. Looking forward to the report a lot! And thanks for this one, UU!

Just not enough manpower in the peloton to control the race on this route. Unfortunate for Lund, but a more active peloton might have hurt him too. Agree with cunego that the stronger teams make a sprint or late attack more likely in the main race, but definitely could still see a break making it depending on the composition!

Thanks for the report!

Could be a sign of things to come - African cycling on the rise Grin

I think the main thing at the moment is that the crosswinds go to the end which gives a bigger chance for the breakaway to win as theres no drop in winds for the groups behind to form a chase so i would imagine a breakaway has a very strong chance of winning here. Without wanting to moan about the Italian selection again the first few results do show we needed a much strong flat focus then sprint focus weve had Grin

Here was my thoughts in the route vote pretty much played out exactly as expected

very tough choice

closer the wind is the to the end more likely we get a breakaway is a pretty good guide

so while a rouleur winner would be awesome i've ruled out Puri on that Basis and gone for between Nantes and Ruchphen, feel the Dutch version could give the most exictement

Congrats to all the winners so far and thanks to Imladrik, Ulrich and cunego for the coverage!

It's been a rather uninspiring WC for our riders and baring some bigger shenanigans in the RR it will stay this way as we only have to riders in there with Küng and Katrasnik. But the parcours got us some interesting racing.

Congrats Zmorka. Very cool to see him become WC. I'm pleased with Mano in 6th.
Our highlight of course is the U23 WC ITT win with Milesi! Hsu quite disappointing in the B race, but congrats Latvia on another win there. Thanks for all the reports so far.

Nice to see Zmorka win, even if it is obviously due to the disband of Vesuvio. Smile

Very happy to see Zmorka win! Ocampo's 27th place on the other hand is quite the underperformance again. Thank you for the great report, cunego Smile

OMG that's so incredible for Sotd what a reward for all those years! As I said above that wind section going to the end made this breakaway heaven but what an awesome end

Italy wise awesome by Konychev but I really feel this was winnable for Dainese with a. Better team composition and probably a lost event for him with unlikely another flat worlds for a while

SotD
Haha what the actual fuck!? That has got to be the biggest win we have ever got! And then to one of my favorite riders, while his captain was trying to figure out the sprint. Absolutely amazing Banana

Massive what-if with Pidcock trying and missing the final move. Don't think I'll ever get over these last two World Championships and what could have been - but if you don't earn it you don't get it! Congrats SotD on an amazing day for you Grin

11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Well that completes a set of unexpected road race winners. Congrats to Greece and thanks to Imladrik for most of the reporting.

Konychev and Kragh in the mix was very cool to see, especially with the former being super strong in the finale. That attack with only 1,3 kilometers had to give him a solo lead if it was ever going to win it, and oh how close it was Shock

Congratulations on the title, SotD! What a way to win it as well from Boutopoulos, simply being the best in the decisive move. Massive, massive win Grin

Congrats SotD, this is a big reward for all the things you did for Greek (fantasy) cycling over a decade!

Katrasnik active and on the podium was more than we could hope for in this race as well.
