GP Yekaterinburg
Racing will be done by JT
History
Year | Winner | Team | 2020 | Wilco Kelderman | Philips | 2019 | Johan Esteban Chaves | Azteca - NBCSN | 2018 | Cyril Gautier | Valio - DeLaval | 2017 | Johan Esteban Chaves | Azteca-NBCSN | 2016 | Enrico Barbin | Ferrero - Samruk | 2015 | Jose Mendes | Severstal-Mercator | 2014 | Gracjan Lejman | FCB - Polska | 2013 | Eduard Vorganov | Team Privatbank | 2011 | Frank Schleck | Vesuvio-Accumalux |
Yekaterinburg hasn't been on the calender since 2020, where Kelderman won ahead of Moscon, Juul-Jensen & Eiking. One of them should be among the favorites yet again, as the route is exactly the same. Luckily, the race organizers have moved the race from January to August though, as temperatures can be freezing in the winter.
Nat. | Name | FL | HI | ST | RS | AC | | Odd Christian Eiking | 71 | 81 | 78 | 74 | 76 | | Sven Erik Bystrom | 72 | 79 | 75 | 72 | 76 | | Emmanuel Morin | 70 | 78 | 75 | 73 | 76 |
On paper, we have a clear podium with Eiking as the uncrowned king of the hills. Bystrom is the crown prince and Morin the court jester. But things rarely goes according to plan in cycling, so let's move on to some of the other exciting riders.
Nat. | Name | MO | HI | ST | RS | AC | | Eduard Alexander Beltran | 76 | 78 | 68 | 67 | 71 | | Ruben Guerreiro | 76 | 77 | 73 | 73 | 72 | | Xianjing Lyu | 75 | 77 | 75 | 76 | 74 | | Victor Lafay | 75 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 74 | | Juan Pedro Lopez | 78 | 76 | 71 | 72 | 78 |
The hills look quite relentless, however, which could be great for the hybrids (75+ MO). Beltran best of the lot in the hills. Guerreiro is also a decent sprinter on the other hand, and one of my personal favorites.
Lyu probably the best alrounder, Lafay is a great fighter, and Lopez a cheeky climber.
Nat. | Name | FL | HI | ST | SP | AC | | Bachirou Nikiema | 69 | 77 | 72 | 70 | 76 | | Andrea Vendrame | 72 | 76 | 75 | 71 | 75 | | Rok Korosec | 71 | 75 | 74 | 75 | 78 | | Luca Wackermann | 74 | 74 | 74 | 74 | 72 |
Of the faster puncheurs (besides Guerreiro), we have both Nikiema and Vendrame who should be decent in the hills. However, one of the CT stars of this season is also present - Korosec. Lastly, I'd like to mention Wackermann, even though Zuri Metzgete is still a couple of months out.
Nat. | Name | FL | HI | ST | AC | FG | | Joel Yates | 71 | 78 | 77 | 69 | 73 | | Anatoliy Budyak | 68 | 78 | 72 | 68 | 63 | | Gonzalo Serrano | 69 | 77 | 73 | 77 | 77 | | Christian Mager | 70 | 77 | 68 | 71 | 68 | | Xavier Quevedo | 68 | 77 | 70 | 73 | 68 | | Simon Carr | 68 | 77 | 74 | 72 | 65 | | Deins Kanepejs | 70 | 77 | 72 | 71 | 68 | | Andrii Bratashcuk | 69 | 77 | 75 | 67 | 65 | | Oleksandr Prevar | 69 | 77 | 72 | 68 | 60 |
Too many outsiders (77+ HI) to mention them all, so we will stick with Yates, Budyak, and Serrano as the most likely to play a bigger role.

Pretty sad to send our best puncheurs to Yekaterinenburg, only to see two other norwegians being top favorites and our guys not even mentioned among the outsiders, haha, we need a better transfer window for sure
Thanks alot for the great preview Caspi! |

Beltran in good form and being the length of the hills he should be able to do pretty well. Keen for this one and hopefully we can get a high result!

I always like Guerriero for races like this but he hasn't come through for my predictions yet. Guess I'll just have to predict him again! Excited to see a new race return!

Hard and high class competition here but I hope with his versatility Guerreiro can do something great. A Top 5 finish would be nice and maybe even more. But like said a lot of good riders and you never know how such a race will turn out.
thanks for the preview.

Always difficult going up against Eiking, who is really just a better Bystrom. Nevertheless, we have sent a strong team, so hopefully SEB can get himself his first win of the season as the route should suit him relatively well.

Echo what others have said, this isn't going to be a walk in the park. Fingers crossed Lyu and to a lesser extent Hermans can stick around and score some points with a late dash. Hoping we can get our second win of the year in a hilly classic here, to keep pace with the promotion hopefuls.

Maybe a bit harsh to complain about a 4th place but I feel like after all the effort from the team at least a podium should've been possible from Bystrom. Definitely not the end of the world and we'll take any points we can get on the way to a top 10 but it feels like we can never quite deliver on the foundations that we build in these races.

Oooooooweeeeee!!!
That was much needed - finally Lyu delivers the goods, management is thrilled. And Hermans (and Noppe) with big contributions, man, what a race for Duvel-Tsingtao!
Thanks for the report jt, appreciate you letting us come out on top this time!

In the end finishing 9th isnt terrible and again some decent scoring. BUT it feels like we have kinda not the best karma the whole season, finishing last in this group with his skillset, i dunno
Another but, thats also why we play this here, if we would just determine results by stas alone it would be so boring too.
Anyway, congrats to Booker and thanks for the report jt!

Magic Wackermann goes again! Funny to see Pacher the next best, and Lafay outside the points. But all in all, a very good race for us, and with Trentino that's - finally - a excellent month for us.
Anonymous last maxed race for Iturria, but that was expected.
Thanks for the report, congrats on the win Booker!

I feel you. Nikiema in 10th isn't bad, but with Wackermann in 3rd I think we could have done better.
Thanks for the report JT
