Taken from last season's post.
With the end of the season rapidly approaching, it's time to select a route for the season's grand finale, the World Championships.
History:
2023: Mountain (Flat finish)
2022: Cobbles
2021: Flat
2020: Hill
2019: Cobbled Mountain
2018: Flat
2017: Hill
2016: Cobbles
2015: Mountain
2014: Flat
2013: Hill
2012: Cobbles
2011: Hill
2010: Mountain
2009: Hill (Flat finish)
2008: Hill
As mountain won last season, it will not be one of the choices this time. Please vote for your choice from the others.
Vote on exact location/route will follow once there is a clear winner here. Please nominate suggestions for routes in this thread.
Generally the ITT and TTT routes will match the RR course.
Deadline: 24th March, 3 PM, Daily Time

Time for something hilly I guess. I really liked the Olympics RR route from last year, if anyone has that made already.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

That could be a nice option indeed. Maybe even the Swiss WC of last year, as I can imagine pcm rates that as hilly as well?
Or we can go to Mexico

Hilly, definitely in for that. Including some climbing, but not so much that we'll just end up with MAL, Herklotz and Areruya battling for the win. LBL was quite nice this year, a similar course could be interesting. Or San Sebastian of course, completely unbiased
In terms of country, Latin America definitely has been waiting for a very long time now. Argentina should have some nice hills, and I guess we could use parts of San Luis S5 (not the final section though).
Or we go to Africa and take Kigali (with lvl0 cobbles, so they have no impact), but would rather keep that option for an actual cobbled race

Hills without a doubt. Not having anyone for it hurts a bit, but it does give the best races IMO

Would quite like to see a hilly (flat finish) course since the last Hill course we had was bordering on mountains course.
If there's a stage that could give a chance to a MAL and a chance to Grosu, Demare would be the perfect balance IMO |

To keep it from being the big climbers I think we need a traditional punchy course with a short climb (s). Would rather err to giving the strong sprinters a chance.
Good news is those are easy courses to find. Never been a Dutch worlds - the valkenberg course from a few years would be a fit.

Is this where I suggest that the TT be a prologue... Spoiler please
In all seriousness, for a hilly race not in Europe, maybe there's ways to extend a Muscat Classic type parcour. Similarly, maybe some stages of Taihu Lake or Guangxi could be adapted as well. I'm personally always going to vote for something outside Europe - but am also always going to be excited for whatever is chosen.

I know this was in jest but we've never really had a short TT for the worlds, might be something to do one year, if not this one then in the future could also make it in between prologue and TT distance (I think that's 10-15km) in game to really expand the amount of riders with a chance |

Love this idea. Don't care if it's 5 or 15 km, but would be nice with a twist

I would like to opt for a WC in Greece next year - or the one after that

I dont like this
I mean its called TT World CHampion for a reason and a TT is just longer and basically a complete different discipline as PRL thats why it has individual stats also.
On the contrary i even think a TT for the World Championships should be really hard to really figure out the best, Either with a long flat course (50 km and a bit more) or an harder profile (not finishing at a mountain though)
BUT I can see some wanna also see the result of a PRL Battle, so maybe we could introduce an not official Prologue World Championships just for the fun of having it.

I would argue that both a prologue and a TT is a race alone against the clock.
Actually, I think there's a way bigger difference between a mountain RR and a RR with cobbles.

I honestly think this is a good idea. Maybe it should not be 100 % prologue, but a shorter TT in some editions where pRL attributes takes a big part may get things more interesting in a similar way how we made some courses to matter with HIL, MO or COB stat.

Because of overwhelming response in favour of one profile, already closing this voting!
Hill | 75% | [30 Votes] | Flat | 15% | [6 Votes] | Cobbles | 10% | [4 Votes] |
The 2024 MG World Championships will be held on a hilly course! Stay tuned for the next phase of voting where you will select the profile type.
