Welcome to Belgium for the sixth edition of GP Wallonie. Last year we saw a 6 man group make it to the famous finish line on the 'Citadelle de Namur', where Pascal Ackermann beat Robert Stannard and Joseph Areruya. Ackermann is again amongst the favourites, this year riding for Tafjord Kraft. He was 6th in Strade Bianche earlier this season. There is no way past Andrea Bagioli in this preview. The Italian got a unbelieveable run in USA, winning all three stages and ofcourse GC. Arnaud Demare will be hoping to continue his form from South Africa (stage win) and Strade Bianche (5th).
Marc Hirschi is another one who showed good form after winning a Pologne stage and finishing on the podium of Badaling International and a USA PCC stage. The same can be said from Robert Stannard, who won in Strade Bianche and got 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the USA PCC stages. Then we have the experienced Tomohiro Kinoshita. He won a South Africa stage and got solid top-10's in both Strade Bianche and Badaling International.
We have another legend on the startlist with Peter Sagan. He has been super consistent in the hilly stage races with 10 top-10's so far, can he perform the same in a one day classic? Followed by two outsiders Anthony Turgis (13th in Strade Bianche) and Xandro Meurisse (4th in Badaling and 8th in Strade). There is also Aidan Van Niekerk (2nd in the closing USA PCC stage) and Petr Vakoc (6th in Badaling).

Glad to see Nikiema mentioned in the preview, but top 10 is the best we can hope for with such strong competition. Hopefully, that means one of our weaker riders gets to join the BOTD.

Not even on the outsider list, but I get it. These short hills are nothing for De Plus. Still hoping for a tough race and maybe a top 10.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Praying Xandro keeps up his great from from Pologne and rolls back the years to his 2022 result here!
Thanks for the great preview, feeling a Hirschi win here!

Bagioli with a quick turn around - we did well with Bilbao here last year as a similar rider, and the route suits him well. Would be happy with a top-10 as anything can happen in a hilly race like this, but if he has good positioning going into the finals, anything can happen.
I expect Standard to step up and show the division why he should be the best puncheur - with Hirschi not far behind also.
Thank you for the preview!

We won this race with Claeys in 2019, who was slightly past his prime. Kinoshita finished second that time, and is now slightly past his prime. I feel the stars are aligned

Thank you for the detailed preview Laurens!
I really like this race and I hope Ackermann can do the same things this year.
We'll see how the pressure fits him. |

Thanks for the preview Laurens, looking forward to seeing if Lyu or Hermans can hang in there and upset the apple cart a little bit.
I'm not holding out high hopes, but hopefully we can get some decent points from the team here!

First goal of the season. Stannard should behave well here, but Im slightly worried he isnt in the top tier of favourites. Anyway we would need him to win this twice or thrice to offset the desert of results we have elsewhere. Thanks for the thorough preview, Laurens!

super happy with Acerkmann 2nd!
Nothing to do with Bagioli today, but cool to see the Italian and German champion battling it out for victory. Huge congrats to Eden and our friends in Indosat.
We'll come back stronger next time
Thank you so much Abhi for the really exciting report! |

I have no idea what the chefs are feeding this man on the team bus, but long may it continue. It’s a good route for Bagioli, but with all of the big dogs present a top-10 is about all you can hope for, and he goes and outdoes himself again. What a man!
Seriously no words to describe it. Dunbar’s gonna have a run for his money if he thinks this is still his team. Hopefully it’ll motivate him to do better Obviously luck plays a big part, but I never would have imagined how well Bagioli would have done when we signed him. I knew he’d be good, but the way things are going this guy is getting himself a national holiday in Indonesia.
Good to see Ackermann in 2nd and Hirschi also doing well - Standard having a rough race again is very strange. Hopefully he can pull himself up by the bootstraps and finish the season strong.
Thank you for the report!

I like this, Bagioli won in USPCC and Yates won in Poland. Bagioli won Wallonie - back to you Adam.

Thanks Abhi for the excellent report, much appreciated!
And congrats Eden to another victory, what a run from Bagioli! 7th from Vakoc is definitely okay. Although I must admit it’s a bitter aftertaste seeing Edmondson score big with the trade Vakoc-Edmondson in mind.
All in all again some points on the board, on to Lisbon!

Fine, we always liked the CT division better anyway.
Seriously, congrats again, Eden. Stellar season from Bagioli! And thanks for the sympathetic words.
Thanks for the lively report Abi!

Eighth is another one of those unspectacular results from Kinoshita. Sure it brings in the points but from his stature we expect more from these kinds of races.
Thanks for the report Abhi and congrats Eden. Bagioli is in fine form this part of the season

Very nice result from Bystrom against some top competition, probably his strongest showing of the season considering who he was up against. Thanks for the nice report Abhi!
