Definitely the plan for next year when Schmid gets eligible
However, my issue is rather that I don't have any "big" goals that are potentially reachable, so it would clearly backfire the year after ^^
Actually not really happy I "had" to spend 1M on training, would clearly have preferred getting a deal for a top rider with that money (plus some more obviously), but it wasn't to be... Therefore trying to make Darbellay ready to take over from Stüssi once the latter declines.
And actually glad I did that Mo training plus two minor ones, instead of bringing one of my TTers to 79 - with that massive amount of TT training here, that wouldn't have made a significant difference. Not looking forward to meeting all these new monsters out there

Time trialists and stage racers still the obvious training meta right now. Sprinters going out of vogue with the engine. Some interesting trainings among the second tier cobblers though. Interesting to see if Van Hooydonck especially will take the next step and deliver amazing wage/points, or settle into the Spengler/Altur tier. Obviously have to hope for the latter for my own team, despite liking him as a rider.
Hills not invested in very much, though a few riders will compete above Aranburu heavily in his niche still. We'll see if it was worth it. The other trainings done at least have satisfied me that my other options (Gregaard 79 mtn or Meiler 78 cob) wouldn't have been as impactiful.

Thanks for the updated db! Wirtgen should be the top timetrialist in the years to come with his training. Very impressive! |

I never pick high goal costs, largely because I don't have top riders. It's been working out reasonably well for me.

And yet, you were the team spending most money on training... Will have to analyze your deals to find out how you did this

I sold most of my assets that I've been accumulating for a while and not spending anything. You likely won't see a repeat of this kind of spending from me.

While we're at it, how about a couple of statistics about this year's training sessions?
First, money spent per team:
Spoiler Team | Money | Cedevita | € 4’650’000 | EA Vesuvio | € 4’300’000 | cycleYorkshire | € 3’100’000 | Indosat Ooredoo | € 3’100’000 | DK Zalgiris | € 3’050’000 | ELCO - ABEA | € 2’750’000 | Everesting | € 2’600’000 | MOL Cycling Team | € 2’600’000 | Newton Foundation p/b Zwift | € 2’550’000 | Podium Ambition | € 2’450’000 | Polar | € 2’400’000 | Oxxo - Frisby | € 2’200’000 | Sauber Petronas Racing | € 1’850’000 | Fastned | € 1’700’000 | Team UBS | € 1’600’000 | King Power | € 1’500’000 | Gazelle | € 1’450’000 | Moser - Sygic | € 1’400’000 | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | € 1’300’000 | Tryg - Eni | € 1’300’000 | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | € 1’200’000 | Evonik - ELKO | € 1’200’000 | ISA - Hexacta | € 1’200’000 | Minions | € 1’200’000 | McCormick Pro Cycling | € 1’150’000 | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | € 1’100’000 | Jura GIANTS | € 1’050’000 | Aker - MOT | € 1’000’000 | Grieg-Maersk | € 1’000’000 | Glanbia | € 850’000 | Team Puma - SAP | € 700’000 | Rabobank | € 600’000 | Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh | € 200’000 | Team Popo4Ever p/b Morshynska | € 125’000 | Cervelo Test Team | € 100’000 |
Most surprising maybe numbers 4-7 being all PCT teams, with only one of them relegating and being forced to sell, the others apparently making good money through sales (or just having huge budget thanks to goal accomplishment).
Now a small overview of training distribution between small, medium and big. Small means up to 67 (i.e. trainings with the exemption rule), medium is up to 79, and the big ones obviously are the 80+ ones. Always referring to new stat value.
Small (<= 67) | 16 | Medium (> 67 and < 80) | 31 | Big (>= 80) | 23 |
And finally going into details on the individual stats.
One thing to note is that only 8 out of 13 stats were trained at all. No energy training isn't surprising given the really low value/cost ratio (at least in my opinion). Downhill is similarly "useless" to train, whereas the lack of Prologue training probably is closely linked to the pretty limited number of fitting stages. Among the "secondary" stats, only Fighter, Flat and Acceleration got a couple of trainings - but you'll instantly see that they weren't overly relevant given the total training cost of <1M.
Here are the details:
Stat | Total | Small | Medium | Big | Big/Total | Cash | Mountain | 23 | 4 | 12 | 7 | 30% | € 21’000’000 | TT | 11 | 0 | 4 | 7 | 64% | € 14’900’000 | Hill | 11 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 45% | € 9’375’000 | Cobbles | 11 | 0 | 9 | 2 | 18% | € 9’350’000 | Sprint | 8 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 25% | € 4’300’000 | Flat | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0% | € 750’000 | Acceleration | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0% | € 700’000 | Fighter | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0% | € 150’000 |
Mountain still is the preferred training discipline - by quite a big margin, actually. More than twice as many trainings in Mo than in any other stat, almost 1/3 of them being "big" trainings.
However, TT is very impressive with their ratio Big trainings vs. total trainings - almost 2/3 of all trainings were 80+! The lowest training actually was 77->78 (Kiriakidis, O'Loughlin). So it's clearly considered that even most "medium" TT training isn't worth spending money.
It's a rather similar picture for hills, with only 3 trainings in the mid-range (the lowest being 75->76), and 5 big ones.
On the other hand, cobbles and sprints weren't attractive this year, with just Van Hooydonck and Gamper going big in the cobbles (also a result of many top cobblers slowly getting old), and Cullaigh being the only rider getting big sprint training (80->82).
In total, 60.5M were spent on training, which is over 5M more than last year. Mountain and Hill have about the same "popularity" in terms of big trainings, with TT however moving from 4th to 2nd in 80+ trainings. Which is probably what makes most of that 5M difference, as most other disciplines didn't change a lot - here's the short summary I posted in the 2023 thread:
Stat | # Increases | # 80+ | Mountain | 22 | 6 | Hill | 15 | 5 | TT | 13 | 3 | Sprint | 10 | 3 | Cobbles | 9 | 4 | Downhill | 2 | 0 | Flat | 1 | 0 | Acceleration | 1 | 0 | Fighter | 1 | 0 |

Happy to see that we are still among the top trainers out there, even if we did probably make the least impact of the top 10 trailers. And with Coquard out to make it happen, we are likely also among the teams making the biggest step in the wrong direction strength wise.
A couple og crazy strong trainings, which is also a combination of interesting and scary. A bit too much TT for my liking, but Kiriakidis isn’t really in direct competition with a lot of them, as he won’t ever become a top TT’er. This was more or less his start towards becoming a decent GC rider. But for top 5-10 results.

With the 5m more being spent on training it's no wonder that more than a few managers were struggling to sell off some of their normally relatively attractive subjects.

Training of Kiriakidis isn't in the DB btw. He should be 78TT now.

Goes back to transfer tax being gross vs. Net I think.

That's also an issue for sure, I didn't even generate that many funds this offseason and I was also impacted greatly by the tax being gross and not net, but even then that's probably less impactful than the 5 mill just not being in circulation.

Of course. If the tax was net though it would incentivize buying riders over training which would put money back in circulation. |

Feel like a terrorist being the only manager doing significant SP training - and spending the joint 3rd most total on doing that as well xD
Can only hope sprints will be much less variable with the changes made I do say
Some real beasts in the making looking at that training list and some riders that have just become even better as well - (looking at MAL) 0.o

Those TT trainings are never what I wanted to see, especially in the CT division. Didn't expect the competition there that folks are looking to provide, so should be an interesting year.

Just noticed when trying to find height/weight of my riders...
Apparently, Rider ID 1628 Andreas Odie Purnama Setiawa's last name is actually Setiawan, at least all sources I found are saying so.
If it's too late for this year, maybe consider it for 2025, just a detail anyway
