Pogacar 39:58 Plateau de Beille apparently. 3:30 faster than Pantani. At the end of a very tough stage. This was probably the greatest climbing performance of all time.
He still looked fresh at the end too. I don't know how it's possible

I understand Pog v. Jonas is the main act, but didn't the Tour used to show the battle for the podium and top 5 a bit too? It's like they have no cameras behind at all.
Gotta agree i've found a lot of the camera coverage this year somewhat lacking and shortsighted. But equally, it hasn't felt like much of a battle has been going on behind (or upfront), turning into something of a meh race in my books - but it happens, not every race is a classic.

Yeah, I guess my comment was a little tongue in cheek. I know how it's possible, I just don't really care about that sort of thing anymore I guess. Don't have the energy for it.

yeah, actually as far as there was a break in front with some action, cameras were quite equally shared. After Vingegaard acceleration there were almost every rider climbing alone, not much to see there

Visma gave Pogacar an amazing leadout though. Perfect conditions to set a record.
Also the podium is quite clear, behind that it’s probably going to be a domestique so not much of a fight.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Honestly at this point I am more excited to see how Gee and Buitrago approach their top 10 defense than the actual fight for anything.

I hope Pogacar is doing the Vuelta, let's out stupid the performance from Visma last year and win all three grand tours but with the same rider this year. he's clearly strong enough to do so because nobody is even on the same tier nor the tier below him
also personally, I am shocked that we finally see a Evenepoel that is about as good in week 3 as he was in week 1. I don't recall seeing that yet

Honestly not that surprising. Normally his week 3 issues are due to crashes or illness more so than him actually exploding, no shenanigans or covid to take him out this time around.

Pogacar in the Vuelta would be massive, especially because the only people that might beat him are not starting. But I don’t want to see him burned for the next two years either.
Remco is doing ok, but he will never win le Tour if this is the best he can do against a Pogacar with the Giro in his legs and a Vingegaard who just came back from a bad injury.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Screw it, it's so hard to do Giro-Tour already. I want to see Pog go for the triple. Just break the game tbh.

Yeah, I want to see him go do Vuelta as well now just for the lulz. If your going to be this obvious you might as well go the whole fucking hog. |

IT turned out to be a really nice way for Cavendish to finish. No problem with Pogi but think Cavendish and Bini are the highlights of this tour for me.

12 stages between 3 guys is such absolute dominance - Pogacar, Girmay, Philipsen
Really loved the first 3 stages and the other breakaway victories for Carapaz and Campenaerts. Cavendish was obviously it's own highlight, just wish he could've been truly competitive in another stage or two.

I agree here too - going to be a much more exciting fight post Olympics - Kuss back for Visma and 1 month more training for Vingegaard - another UAE Trident/Quadrant? of leaders and Vuelta should be a huge fight. But Pogacar why not win Giro/Tour/Olympics/WC/Vuelta - might as well take the only opportunity to ever do it

Unfortunately the post-race interview looked like Vingegaard isn't doing the Vuelta. Wants to just recover from his crash and reset besides a few smaller races.
I'd expect Roglic to be his main competition for the Vuelta. Not sure who else is lined up for it.

Vingegaard already said he wasn't doing La Vuelta before the Tour due to family reasons. His wife is pregnant and might be having the baby during that time.
Yep, Roglic should be the favorite. But Bora/RB Roglic hasn't quite looked like the Jumbo Roglic so it might be quite an open race.

My two cents about this tour:
Great to see Cavendish "completed" his career. He can now happily retire. The same we can probably say about Bardet, nice 1st stage. Though he will have more months left.
Also great to see that Girmay is finally back on track and could secure the Green Jersey and 3 stage wins.
Also happy to see that Carapaz could secure the Mountains Jersey and did some great riding in the last week. At the beginning Abrahamsen was just incredible also.
Now about the GC. Pogacar was just flawless, if he focuses on the Tours thats what he is capable off and it feels like the giro was the perfect preparation for the tour for him. Though I am sure with a better preparation and less bad luck Vinegaard will also be able to fight Pog in this state and it would be much harder for him. So Jonas tour was great also under the circumstances.
Remco was really surprising me, the result were great and the way he was riding was also surprising. rememberring the even younger Remco he seems like a different person. If he continues that path he will be a huge contender the next years. But I also think thats a bit sad, because i like the young more aggressive Remco. But without a Team like UAE you cant win a tour like this and I cant see Soudal getting cloe to this. But on a side note, Landa was huge also.
After the top 3 ( top 6 bascially because 4-6 were the doms LOL ) the rest is just on a different level, maybe not even rider skill wise but also they dont see to hve the aspiration to battle the front. Thats a bit sad and i hope this will change in the future again.
Speaking about, the first race for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe was kinda a disaster. I am confident that the team with Roglic AND Vlasov would have battled for 2-3 and roglic itself without Vlasov probably 4th, maybe battling with Remco. Let's see if he can compete in the future again but he doesnt get younger.
Even with the Pogacar being that good and dominant I think it was rally entertaining. Lets see how it will be next year(s) when we have a different route and maybe more suited towards other guys (Longer more flat TT's!).
