Franceville was fantastic to Joeri with 2nd and 1st places in the last two years. But I really fear that the introduction of the second stage will hurt him. It's probably just a little too hard, especially given the even tougher competition this year. 8th would probably be a fair result, I'll be very happy about a Top 5, content with anything in the Top 10 and slightly disappointed if it's worse.
Got a feeling that this might be Gerts' race, and I really hope that Pedersen finally does something good. Wouldn't mind some Rutsch coverage either, maybe he can be aggressive and get something out of an attack?
Thank you for the preview Laurens, really lovely format with the top results and the predictions!

If we want to get something out of this race then I really need to hope that second stage isn't quite as flat as it's made out to be

It goes without saying, but we need a big performance here. The fact that it's two stages + GC points make this a huge opportunity points wise for PTHC, even with the stacked startlist. With that many people involved, anything can go wrong. But Per has been money so far this year, so I know he has it in him. He just has to execute. Every placing counts now.
Thanks for the preview!

A big race also for us. Not often you get two straight days of cobbles. Hopefully this is the race where Pedersen turns his cobbles season around. Just need to find the right attacks here. Fingers crossed!

Thank you for the preview, Laurens, and looking forward to the reports, kandesbunzler!
As bbl and tastasol have written, this is a massive, massive PTHC race for teams with a big cobbles leader. We've arguably got two, making it even more of a huge race
With all the buzz and momentum from the Vuelta, we really need another magnificent performance here to get a proper buffer before the Tour and quite honestly two rather horrible PTHC races for us this summer (calendar wise, Slovenia and Deutschland). Wisniowski, helped by Anderberg, has shown earlier this year that it's definitely possible. I've got my fingers crossed, at least! Really hope for solid depth points as well, as top 50 GC placings, and preferrably top 30s, are worth decent points.
Super excited to see this one unfold. Judging by last year, we should expect a sprint on the opening day. Though, profile wise, that final stage looks brutal. Must admit, I really hope we get a selective race also on the opening stage, as that can surely benefit Wisniowski/Anderberg, I think. |

Thanks for a great preview! We come here with 0 expectations since Daniel has been a bit of a mess this season.
Kind of praying that former loanee Mads P wins this, would be much needed after the horrible season he has had so far.

Definitely hurts to miss out on this one. That second stage looks perfect for someone with a little bit of punch - would have been great for Theuns. But I'd have needed to know about transfer outcomes to dare applying for this madness ^^
Good luck to all, should be fun to follow from the outside Seeing Mads P doing well would be really great, but if hills are somewhat selective on the 2nd day, it could also be one for Gerts. Looking forward to the battle!

Looking forward to see how this work. Personally, I really don't like 2 Stage GCs or Cobbled GCs. The former because they distort the points and the latter because the AI doesn't understand cobbles in stage races.
But the schedule required this so after Abhi bullied ( ) me for a while I gave in and made Stage 2. It is based on roads near Franceville and the cobbles roughly correspond to dirt roads.
We had to make this stage really hard or the AI will turn it into a race for sprinters. The testing also showed the hills aren't very significant which was the intent. But things often work out differently when the real start list take to the streets, particularly when the testing was done on the prior version of the game. Hopefully we get some good racing.

With no horse in the race, I'm really fascinated on where this one will go. Especially looking at Stage 2, I wonder how much leeway the breakaway might be given. A surprise breakaway win that doesn't challenge the GC could be a intriguing way for this to go.
Obviously this is pretty rare for a cobble race, but I'm just excited for this to unfold.

I wish I was this confident. Top 5 is a must here. Podium would be great. But it really hasn't been Gerts' season so far.
Thank you for the well documented preview

Oh, we're in this race! And we attack from the start with our leader.. But we're somehow winning! But where is my gap? Emotional Roller Coaster!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I think UU was right:

Really weird outcome, although it's nice to see Lierse getting some redemption for Gamper's mediocre spring season. Congrats!
Although it's a shame that there again are no gaps awarded, flat stage syndrome I guess ^^
Good job also by Spengler, giving UBS some points already and showing that he's ready for greater things. In general, it's again a mix between top cobblers and sprinters with some decent-ish cobbles skills on top, as was the case last year iirc.
Will be really interesting to see what counts on that second stage; given the sheer amount of cobbles, I'd suppose that cobbles stat plus stamina/resistance is key, but we'll see...
Thanks for an entertaining report, was a completely weird yet fun stage to watch from the outside

That was an interesting first stage, congratulations on the win Ollfardh!
Zepuntke in s.t. is most important for us. Let's see if he can deliver tomorrow.
Thanks for the great report, Laurens!

Per was pretty inactive until sprinting to his top 10 there. Hopefully that's a good thing? None of the other big cobblers scored either except Pedersen, but a few wasted some energy throughout the stage. Maybe it'll help. The AI has to do some favor with the difficulty first though. I'm mildly worried Per will not be well positioned tomorrow when things get difficult.
Congrats to Lierse!

Completely forgot about the fact that this was now no longer a one day race. Stavrakakis did well in the initial break. For some time I thought there was an actual chance of it sticking.
We don't have any real chances of a good result here, so fingers are just crossed something crazy happening tomorrow to maybe throw a little bit in our direction. We surely need it.
