2022 edition

Last year's edition was significantly easier than this year, with no mountains. We started with a TTT of 9,2km and a Duolingo victory. Farantakis (ELCO) and Kamberaj (De Stijl) won the two flat stages after that. Emanuel Buchmann (Team UBS) won the first hilly stage. Then we say two breakaway wins for Turgis (De Stijl) and Burke (Zwift) before finishing of with a TT victory from Sajnok (Lierse SK). Buchmann couldn't hold his GC lead on the final TT, the general win was for Yevgeniy Gidich (King Power).

Lachlan Morton is one of the top candidates for the GC fight. Although he has only Stephen Williams to get through the last 3 days.

The list if 80+ climbers for Pogacar to go up against is pretty scary, but I figured it will be.

Sending Formolo to the more mountainous race of the triple header worked quite well last year. Hopefully it will be the same this time, though this one looks a bit harder.

I hope Farantakis can find his legs here when Coquard surely couldn't so far! Otherwise this will be another (on paper decent) dissapointing race.

We have sent a very strong support team with Farantakis here so it would be very dissapointing to not see him figure close to a stagewin, preferably a stagewin on stage 2 to claim the leaders jersey would be key.

Giannoutsos and Mavrikakis are here with a free role to chase some luck

Thanks!

In this case, I obviously expect Haig to fight for the podium. We desperately need him to deliver in any race he's attending. Otherwise relegation is quite a certain thing, I fear.

Triple clash, and yet I think this is the one race of the year where Galta and Quintana are riding together. The other two race just didn't favor either, and would let have led to goo race day allocation. The problem, of course, is that basically every PT GC guy has made the trip, because where else would they go.

A realistic goal has to be a top 10, with the though that Quintana can also finish in the top 15-20 and allow depth points to make up some of the gap to better climbers. IDK how the game is going to handle that, but that's the strategy that I think makes sense.

Thanks for the preview!

Top 10 is the realistic target here for Barguil, perhaps pushing for a top 5 with a bit of good fortune. With both Prado and Cort Nielsen here as well there's a secondary aim to try and put 3 riders in the GC top 20 and try and win the teams classification.

Let's fight for the win, but trained Kudus will of course be hard to beat. Second or third would also be an acceptable result.

Nice touch to highlight every team in the preview

On paper, probably the best stage race for Amezawa all season to race for a GC placing, with only the prologue as a time trial. Very curious to see how he does!

Fingers crossed Kragh can keep his prologue/epilogue streak here, grabbing another stage and also a leader's jersey on the opening day. Also excited to see Johannessen and Van Poucke, as it's their first outing for us where we have PT mountains (not counting our passive PTHC Portugal affair). Would be cool to see them try to feature in a breakaway or two Grin

Looking forward for this one!

Lack of big TTs for Cattaneo does not give me much hope for a good GC, but we'll see where we get. Kalaba can teach our lead sprinter a thing or two.

Thanks for the preview!

Thank you for the extremely detailed and thus enjoyable preview! Smile Much appreciated.

I did consider to bring Herklotz here, but in the end we settled on trying to pick up some minor prizes here.

Loanee Kmieliauskas should be the favorite to end day 1 in white (which might not mean much), before Kanter hopes to repeat some of our early season sprint magic a couple of times with our already successful Nieuwenhuis-Steimle train at his side.
Additionally, our second loanee THJ aims to get on the U25 podium with the help of returning Zimmermann and maxed Zwiehoff at the end of the race, with Pogi and Almeida clearly one step above but many others fighting for the final position.

The two Z's hopefully try to get into a break or two late into the race too, although gaps might not be large enough by then to facilitate the GT-style breakaways those two would like to see.

Wow, what a startlist with 15 80+ climbers Shock There are so many of them that Tenorio, Quintana, Almeida, Shikai and Padun don't even make it to the favourite list - looking forward to this climbing festival from a completely neutral perspective Smile

Kudus should be in a great position to win the race, but Dombrowski's strong acceleration could give him the edge in the fight for bonus seconds, which could be decisive given the low amount of TT kilometers.
Speaking of TT, I'm rooting for Gabby to take a win here, would be cool to see MOL getting some nice points out of our Theuns deal as well Wink

Thanks for the great preview, and good luck to those participating!

We've come here with riders for almost every stage. Ovsya to try mix it up in the sprints and Mas an unlikely candidate for the more Puncheur favoured stage.

Wellens with his first opportunity to impress. Although it is a very strong field, I have to hope he can be in and amongst the Top 5 if not better.

Thank you for the comprehensive preview! Good to all teams and let's see how the race turns out Wink

Great preview!

We're mainly hoping that Larsen can beat the main man himself, SKA, and snatch the win in the prologue. But looking at SKA recently, it will be tough.

Also hoping that Arensman can try something, but against this field my expectations are quite low.

First opportunity for Eenkhoorn to show what he can do. Hoping for a top 15 fight. The rest of the team is picked with the hope of getting into breaks.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Nice to start off the race with some points Smile

5th for Howson is about right. Groselj just missed out on a top 10, but I'm happy with the effort from both.

Pogacar with probably his best prologue to date is already leading the U25s, not something I thought about to be honest. With some luck maybe he can wear that jersey from start to finish, but more likely someone goes in the breakaway and scores bonus seconds in the next two stages.

Speaking of the next two stages, hopefully Enger adds more to our points total.

Solid start from Haig. Nothing else to say, tbh Smile
