Same
Also, my bad for misunderstanding question 4. I thought you were talking NFL about conferences in the 50's

More or less nailed the high but low was a disaster. I thought noone would even think about Cardinals (as they should, cause they are a baseball team)

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for round 4 is tomorrow 7 p.m. (and to thoroughly read the questions). Only got 6 answers so far.

1. Name a city that hosted the Summer Olympics before WW II.
The first ever host of the modern Olympics was the way to go here, while all other cities (and the US) only got mentioned once.
On the low side Berlin was the only city named twice, while the US were invalid because they’re not really a city. We will come back to reading the question carefully later …
High | | | Low | Athens | 5 | | Berlin | 2 | Antwerp | 1 | | Amsterdam | 1 | Berlin | 1 | | Antwerp | 1 | Paris | 1 | | Athens | 1 | USA | 1 | | London | 1 | | | | Los Angeles | 1 | | | | St. Louis | 1 | | | | USA | invalid |
2. Name a team sport played with a ball that was part of the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Football was the most obvious answer here, though Basketball was also mentioned three times.
On the low side Handball and Rugby Sevens got two votes each, while some other sports got named just once.
High | | | Low | Football | 5 | | Handball | 2 | Basketball | 3 | | Rugby Sevens | 2 | Mixed Doubles Tennis | 1 | | Basketball | 1 | | | | Field Hockey | 1 | | | | Football | 1 | | | | Softball | 1 | | | | Water Polo | 1 |
3. Name a country that hosted the Winter Olympics in the 20th century.
I mentioned earlier that the question should have been read more carefully by some of you. While jdog missed the ‘city’ in question 1 three of you named cities here. At least for the high round that wasn’t a big problem, as only the USA got named more than once: they got 2 votes. So not much lost here.
The low round was a bit spoiled by the three invalid answers, though the USA managed to get two votes here too.
High | | | Low | USA | 2 | | USA | 2 | Albertville | 1 | | France | 1 | Calgary | 1 | | Italy | 1 | Canada | 1 | | Japan | 1 | France | 1 | | Yugoslavia | 1 | Nagano | 1 | | Grenoble | invalid | Norway | 1 | | Lillehammer | invalid | Switzerland | 1 | | Nagano | invalid |
4. Name a piece of equipment that’s not put on the feet used at the last Winter Olympics.
After posting this question I realized I should have ruled out all clothing, but you managed to name three items twice.
And though you had plenty of ways to go obscure for the low round, the Biathlon rifle got mentioned twice. An though jandal might be right that his piss switcher was used, I wasn’t able to find evidence for this and thus had to rule his answer invalid.
High | | | Low | Helmet | 2 | | Biathlon rifle | 2 | Hockey stick | 2 | | Bobsleigh | 1 | Ski poles | 2 | | Curling brooms | 1 | Gloves | 1 | | Gloves | 1 | Jersey | 1 | | Hockey stick | 1 | Mouth Guard | 1 | | Shin pads | 1 | | | | Skeleton-sleigh | 1 | | | | piss-switcher for bypassing anti-doping control | invalid |
5. Name a country that hosted both Summer and Winter Olympics.
The third question about hosts and finally you all got it right. The USA (once again) took the lead here with one vote more than China.
The low round saw another evenly dispatched field of answers: three countries got named twice and another three once.
High | | | Low | USA | 4 | | France | 2 | China | 3 | | Italy | 2 | Italy | 1 | | USA | 2 | Japan | 1 | | Germany | 1 | | | | Japan | 1 | | | | South Korea | 1 |
Round 4 ‘High’
df_Trek took the win this round, followed by alex and Croatia. ivan got a huge throwback this round, losing 6 points on alex and the overall lead. On the bottom end TMM finally got a second 5-pointer.
Round 4 ‘Low’ and ‘Hi-Lo’
df_Trek also won the low round, missing a 5-pointer just by his closest rival ivan choosing Handball too. So it’s no surprise he also took the combined win, being the only contender with a two-digit score. On a side note TMM managed to get -3 points in the combined score again, making it 4 out of 4.
Overall
The overall sees df_Trek taking over the role as alex’ main (and only?) contender for the win, trailing by just 4 points. ivan’s third with a 9 point gap to the top.
But ivan’s the clear leader in the low overall with a 6 point lead over Croatia and TMM. From there on it’s just another 7 points to the bottom of the table which is occupied by the high leader alex.
All this results in a lead for ivan in the hi-lo overall with 58 points. He’s followed by df_Trek on 53 and alex on 52. Then there’s a huge gap of 14 points to most of the others. Another 15 points down is jdog, while TMM is last with an impressive -12 points.
I'm with stupid 2023: kandesbunzler26's Round 5
Cycling (again)
1. Name a cyclist who won exactly one stage in this year’s Tour de France.
2. Name a cyclist who had to abandon this year’s Tour de France.
3. Name a cyclist who won an intermediate sprint at this year’s Tour de France.
4. Name a cyclist who won a KoM sprint of the 3rd or 4th category at this year’s Tour de France.
5. Name a country with a rider participating in this year’s Tour de France but without a stage win (the country, not the rider ).
PM me your answers until 7 p.m. daily time on Wednesday, July 19th. This will also be the deadline I use for the validity of the answers!

In my opinion the validity of answers should be taken into account based on the time the questions were posted on the forum, not the deadline.

1. Name a cyclist who won exactly one stage in this year’s Tour de France.
The answer most of you went with was Tadej Pogacar, probably save in the knowledge he’ll crack big in the last week …
In the low round the answers were more evenly spread, with three riders named twice and another three just once.
High | | | Low | Tadej Pogacar | 5 | | Victor Lafay | 2 | Wout Poels | 2 | | Mads Pedersen | 2 | Mads Pedersen | 1 | | Carlos Rodriguez | 2 | Jonas Vingegaard | 1 | | Jai Hindley | 1 | | | | Tadej Pogacar | 1 | | | | Adam Yates | 1 |
2. Name a cyclist who had to abandon this year’s Tour de France.
The abandon of Mark Cavendish was surely the most prominent (and mourned) in this year’s edition, reflected in the 6 votes for him.
He even got 2 votes in the low round, as did James Shaw. All other riders only got named once.
High | | | Low | Mark Cavendish | 6 | | Mark Cavendish | 2 | Steff Cras | 1 | | James Shaw | 2 | Caleb Ewan | 1 | | Esteban Chaves | 1 | Fabio Jakobsen | 1 | | Ruben Guerreiro | 1 | | | | Daniel Felipe Martinez | 1 | | | | Luis Leon Sanchez | 1 | | | | Ramon Sinkeldam | 1 |
3. Name a cyclist who won an intermediate sprint at this year’s Tour de France.
Another clear winner here, with the multiple stage winner Jasper Philipsen, though two of you were more the Mads Pedersen type. The last vote got Matis Louvelsen.
The low round was ‘won’ by someone who was probably never mentioned (and won’t be mentioned again) in this game and thus was chosen by three of you: Anthony Delaplace. Only Jasper Philipsen was named more than once apart from him.
High | | | Low | Jasper Philipsen | 6 | | Anthony Delaplace | 3 | Mads Pedersen | 2 | | Jasper Philipsen | 2 | Matis Louvel | 1 | | Julian Alaphilippe | 1 | | | | Bryan Coquard | 1 | | | | Pascal Eenkhorn | 1 | | | | Mike Teunissen | 1 |
4. Name a cyclist who won a KoM sprint of the 3rd or 4th category at this year’s Tour de France.
His first week battle for the KoM jersey was so prominent nearly all of you went with Neilson Powless here.
The low round saw Tadej Pogacar in the prominent company of Krists Neilands and Matis Louvel (all with 2 votes).
High | | | Low | Neilson Powless | 7 | | Matis Louvel | 2 | Matis Louvel | 1 | | Krists Neilands | 2 | Wout Poels | 1 | | Tadej Pogacar | 2 | | | | Esteban Chaves | 1 | | | | Jonas Gregaard | 1 | | | | Neilson Powless | 1 |
5. Name a country with a rider participating in this year’s Tour de France but without a stage win.
Italy was the winner here with 4 votes, followed by the USA with 2.
In the low round Ecuador was named three times, while Latvia got 2 votes.
High | | | Low | Italy | 4 | | Ecuador | 3 | USA | 2 | | Latvia | 2 | Austria | 1 | | Eritrea | 1 | Eritrea | 1 | | Luxembourg | 1 | Germany | 1 | | Norway | 1 | | | | USA | 1 |
Round 5 ‘High’
alex took the win this round with a perfect score of 28 points, followed by jdog with 26 and Croatia and jandal with 25. On the bottom end TMM scored another 5-pointer.
Round 5 ‘Low’ and ‘Hi-Lo’
The low round was won by df_trek with a 5-pointer, followed by jdog, jandal and SotD with 7 points each.
This results in a win for jdog in the combined score, his first after he stayed by his tactics (same answers for high and low) all game. TMM failed to get -3 for a fifth time, scoring even worse with -4.
Overall
The ‘High’ game was clearly won by alex who was just the most consistent of all players, never finishing worse than second. He’s followed by df_Trek and jandal with some bigger gaps, while ivan lost his podium spot with two bad last rounds.
But ivan can comfort himself with the ‘Low’ win, staying ahead of df_Trek though losing 5 points in the last round. The ‘High’ winner alex interestingly got last of those participating in all rounds.
This means that in the ‘HI-Lo’ game we have a third winner in df_Trek, who outscored alex by a single point. TMM achieved the goal of -15 points by scoring -16. jdogs tactics mentioned above showed to be very tricky, as he got two very good combined rounds (including a win), but also three really bad ones with a total score of 4 points.
What’s left to say
That leaves me to thank all of you participating and hand over the duty (and joy) of being your host to alex as the winner of the traditional round (or the other two winners instead). Feel free to include a low round or kick it out.
Speaking of which: I’d really like your feedback regarding the low rounds.

failed last round with a couple of answers, but a perfect round wouldn't have been enough as well.

Woopsie, I forgot to participate.
Thanks for the rounds! Found the low interesting and strategic, though I'm bad at this.
