Tour de France 2023
Imladrik
Began yesterday, with quite a strange stage, I found, and already two desertions (and no small ones: Carapaz and Mas).
I just hopes that the favorites will let some stages for the others Grin

I loved how it started. Sure you take some spotlight from sprinters and prologue experts with that but so right from the starts the favorites cant hide. Great start!
Unfortunate for Carapaz and Mas but it felt like they were just incredbile unlucky since it was kinda the only crash and didnt even look bad.
Look forward to today and the rest.

Cracking opening two days. Awesome sight to see Yates & Yates going off the front to win, and then Lafay to spoil the JV/WVA party.

Really not liking Vingegaard so far. I know we've been spoiled with crazy attacking in the classics, but this is just lame. Not to mention he doesn't even help van Aert in the end.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Why should he help Van Aert? It's a waste of energy for the long run. If you wanna blame someone, there's literally 6 other people on the team that you can blame for not helping enough. Pogacar is way stronger on the punchier climbs like the ones we've been seeing so far in the Basque country once we hit stage 6 and onwards I expect to see a different Vingegaard who is a bit more proactive. The goal was most likely to not lose the Tour on these two stages and that's a success.

All it took was one turn and van Aert wins the stage. After all the help he got from van Aert last year, that felt like a no brainer for me. That one effort shouldn't cost him the race, and it if does he doesn't deserve to win it. Let's hope you're right and he redeems himself in the longer mountains, cause this was the lamest riding we've seen since the Froome years.

Yes, because yellow jersey contenders are known for helping their team mates who are chasing stages. If Pogacar wasn't here, Vingegaard would have been one level about everyone else so I could have seen a case being made about him wasting energy in helping Wout. But in such a tough race with such a tough competitor in Pogacar, you should save energy whenever you can, not waste it.

Jumbo clearly worked for Wout both yesterday and today. So the team clearly supports him too and they are not here only for the yellow jersey. Claiming Vingegaard should have done the same is just silly.

Pogačar is at least a level higher than Vingegaard as well, so maybe he shouldve not been a lil bitch, because maybe this year his entire team wont take five years off their lives to help him beat Pogi (which wont happen even if they try lol)

On a more on topic note: Wonderfully ridden by Hindley with what I got to see today, hopefully he recovers well and is able to be a third part of a trifecta battling it out for the yellow jersey!

Hindley need to find his own pace now. Jumbo are attacking this tour with expertise love to see it. Wilco putting in a monster shift showing that even though he's the first reserve just how deep their overall team is. Kuss is also just an otherworldly helper, might be the best in the business.

Ruben Guerreiro such an unlikeable rider wow.

Exciting stage! Awesome to see Powless and Kuss doing well. And I hope the fight for yellow continues throughout the whole tour. Grin

I think i've just about calmed down after that finish today. Cav continues to look good. I'm fully on board that he'll get #35, or at least i'll continue to tear up in every interview he gives. Certainly i've not seen (or really registered) a final tour ride done in such a smiling and enjoyable fashion.

Also, best Week 1 of a 21st century Tour? Holy hell has it been a briliant week!

for sure best 1st week of Tour I've followed in my lifetime

Ollfardh
Not gonna lie, I had a bit of goosebumps when Cav took the lead today. Philipsen is simply the best at the moment. Merlier might be the only one who can match his speed, but he's not here so yeah.

Awesome first week indeed, it definitely helps that there's not the usual 6 flat stages + 1 TT.
