Still looking really good. If Alunderis loses more time on the next couple of stages maybe he'd be allowed into a breakaway (with his RTG colleagues) towards the end. And if not he'll be fighting for a really good GC result.

Just amazing! To see Alunderis back in the top 10 so late in the race, though with the final ITT it was impossible to hold onto that postion. He was consistently strong, maybe a couple of semi-bad days, unheard of for a RTG rider.
Anyway, here's what Alunderis had to say after the Giro:
Q: Congratulations to a great GC result! 11th! Did you expect it?
A: No, definitely not. I was looking for a relatively easy ride and then join a breakaway or two on late mountain stages. But I quickly realised that I had great legs and couldn't waste them. I pushed myself hard every day, it was very exhausting. I hope I didn't overdo it, I have two more Grand Tours to ride this year.
Q: Are you turning into a stage racer, will you now go for the GC in every Grand Tour?
A: I remind you just how bad I am on the time trial bike, as my results in this Giro showed. I still see myself as a stage hunter, though I admit that hardly ever worked so far in my career. But I guess in modern cycling we see some Grand Tours with little TT, I might fight for a top 10 result in those.
Q: Maybe even in this year's Tour de France?
A: Sure, this year we only have a prologue and a MTT, which is perfect for me. However, the competition is going to be even stronger, there's a nasty stage finishing in Roubaix and the mountain stages look rather punchy. So the plan remains the same, let's just see how I do on the first tough stages.
Q: But before that, the Criterium Dauphine. Your thoughts?
A: After the prologue and the fairly long ITT on stage 4 I could even be carrying the lantern rouge. With the four MTF that follow I expect I could get a decent GC result without joining a breakaway. But I'd love to go on the attack and just target a single stage instead, if the opportunity presents itself.

Love to see him aggressive on the cobbles stage. Even if he was caught early, hopefully that was really good experience for him!
