I was surprised to see there wasn't WC thread yet.
I want to start saying how embarrassing was the superiority of Zoe Backstedt against the field... more than 3.6 kmph faster than the second girl.
about the Men Elite TT it was stunning to see it during live broadcast.

Thought the same. Backstedt is just a class above everyone.
Also mightily impressed by Waerenskjold, always peaking for the most important time of the season (last year Avenir, this year Worlds)

Zoe Backstedt - Current ITT, Track (Madison), CX and RR (for at least a couple of days) Junior WC
As far as my knowledge stretches no other rider has held four Rainbow jerseys in four different disciplines at the same time.

The Men's TT was a great early morning watch.

I read that Ferrand-Prevot had four rainbows at once - Road, CX, MTB, and MTB Team Relay. But I guess depends on whether the latter two can be counted as truly different disciplines.
It's great to compare Backstedt's efforts with the pro women - shorter course, but also gear limited bike - hopefully she can step up well in due course.

And he peaks at 76 TT in the MG game... What a shame..
On a different note. Historic Worlds so far for Norway. Feels great.

disastrous TTT for Netherlands in both men and women, in particular Van Vleuten crash didn't look good.

Van Vleuten! That was a sensational piece of timing and tactical awareness!
Lippert should be f*cking furious with Ludwig & Niewiadoma, that group of 5 should have twice won this race if not for selfishness. Thus the selfless Van Vleuten who tried so hard to set-up for Vos taking it feels like the ultimate version of Karma. I feel so bad for Lippert, threw everything at that and 4th does not do her justice.
And that's not mentioning Reusser who made a great move, or Fisher-Black animating her own U23 title race.
TV direction needs some work. Far too many scenery shots inside the final 30km with multiples attacks and groups (yes a rainbow is nice and symbolic, but showing that over the climbs, christ!). Also far too many bikes in and around the front groups throughout, probably didn't make a decisive impact but constantly a threat of changing the race or contacting a rider on those wet roads.
Really fun Womens race, undecided right to the last moments. Very tactial, very attritional, setting a high bar yet again for the Men to match tomorrow.
Also, shoutout to Arlenis Sierra for 6th for Cuba! And some people said a Caribbean MG Team was crazy and unrealistic

Pretty crazy to win it with a crazy elbow, she knows no limits. Gratz AVV. Hopefully she will not retire and race Paris 2024 |

I can’t believe this just happened, Annemiek van Vleuten, what a legend. The moment I saw both groups merged, I knew someone would jump straight from the back and attack - how they let her go with such ease is… bewildering. Pity for Lippert, she rode amazingly today. And what a season for Persico, I’m curious to see if she will replicate this in 2023, what an excellent all-rounder.
Just two notes from the rest of the week: WTF Foss and all hail the next big thing in Portuguese cycling (and the best mustache in the pro peleton in the upcoming years, hopefully): Antonio Morgado |

So happy for Niamh Fisher-Black, huge result for her, obviously an established face at the elite level for a couple of years already but the U23 title is still a huge one for NZ cycling, love to see her doing so well

What a crazy finish! Have to feel for that group of 4, I can’t believe they threw that away in the final KM. Unbelievable.

I can't recall a men's elite worlds where the winner was so clear cut with 60 km's to go and at the same time where all but one off the big favorites were even visible
shouldn't be so surprise when there are three big guys and one is teammates with the other two
damn even Sagan is in the top 10

France WTF
Lucky for them that the second group failed terribly on the final meters, but that was a free tow for Evenepoel. Cyclist of the year. After Annemiek.
Top-10 was strange considering I thought the race would be more selective in the beginning. Peter Sagan still knows how to peak for the Worlds. |

Hilarious that Laporte and Matthews ended up on the podium after all that. Some interesting group tactics across many of these road races in the final lap.
