Who will be the next new Grand Tour champion and when?

Was fun going through this again after almost three years. So will we have a new winner this year? Will we have one in the Giro? Both look doubtful to me. Think TDF and Vuelta are done deals, barring crashes or injuries/illness.
Any predictions on who will be the next new winner?

One very good (given Roglic was in his first pro season) and one pretty bad pick 
Of the next generation I like Johannes Staune-Mittet quite a lot for a GT winner, for the closer ones Vingegaard and Almeida look like the more obvious choices.

Gotta be patriotic, so I'm going for Gino Mäder
Not this year, but I think in a race with only few TT kms (or just a MTT), he might get a chance once or twice in his career. He was already 5th in last Vuelta, and he's shown in Romandie that he's not *that* bad.
However, I have to agree with Croatia that Almeida and Vingegaard currently are probably the most obvious choices - or maybe Vlasov? He definitely had a nice season so far - and he wasn't that far away from the Giro podium last year.

Dani Martinez. He just needs to keep away from bad luck and injuries - this year he has made a leap in form and followed through the Dauphine/Tour 2020 and Giro 2021 show. |

Current gen: Vlasov.
As for the next gen, everyone and their mom would rightfully say Juan Ayuso, but I'll go out on a limb here and back a different Spaniard: Igor Arrieta.
And furthermore, Kevin Vauquelin or Lenny Martinez will do what Pinot/Bardet never could and finally bring one home for France again at some point.

I am a fan of Vlasov, but I disagree. I think he is more likely to win 2 monuments than one GT. He's lacking in those big alpine stages, but is one of the best in the world in those short-medium mountains. I'd guess he'll be faster to winb Liege or Lombardia.
Out of the other guesses I really like Dani Martinez, think he could be next. Arrieta also looks very complete, but compared to Carlos Rodriguez I think he's only 2nd in line (not to count out Ayuso, though I see a more Vlasov-type rider in Ayuso).
Of the bigger outsiders I like Mäder due to his development, but I'd guess he's more a KOM and stage hunting guy. Martinez looks to me like a young MA Lopez, and while I like Vauquelin I'd heavily doubt that he'll develop as a GT rider and would argue that he's more of an allround-classics engine and could actually go more the Bettiol-direction.

Vauquelin is still a mystery to me too.
Is he such a great allround talent that he can also climb well, or - even more exciting - is he such a great GT talent that he can also ride the classics this well? And can he bring his good U23 TTing to the pros?

Now that teenagers or close can podium GT's and the like, I feel like speculation like this is almost obsolete. Guys go from local youth races to juniors to the top of WT in a year or two. Unless you dig for guys still in secondary school, who's there to project?

At this point whose to say Pogacar, Evenepoel, etc. won't be cooked by 28? Not saying it's likely, but I'm just not gonna pretend I can even mildly project a career curve normally anymore.

yes, that's true, we can't know if these guys are just over the average level of GT champions in years (saying they are better than Nibali, Contador, Froome is quite ridiculous) or there's something different in the peaking curve

Vingegaard is older, so if he can avoid Pog and Remco in one GT, he might even still win one at 30 y.o. before the others
