Big one for Gaviria. Rickaert doing an awesome job and Gaviria finishing it off, you love to see it. Getting closer to our race goals, I loved our performance here.

Sprints seem to be a lot better in GT's this year in terms of favorites being near the front and leadouts working (minus Eislers). I wonder why that is. Is it just a matter of less competition and more diverse fields?

That is my opinion, at the Vuelta of the guys without leadouts only Swift is anywhere near the class of the 3 who get leadouts, and he is the only one who has been successful.

No idea really why sprints are working so perfectly fine here. 
Minali with some more close to top10 results. Yesterday was too optimistic and taking the first train spot behind Ahlstrand obviously made him suffer quickly.
Today not seen really, so he got the slipstream for quite some time going up to 11th.
Nothing spectacular, but I like that he is around trying.
Congrats Croatia for yet enother big win. |

Ya, very fine sprint stages in this race. Even without wide roads and all that extra effort put into the stages.

Really happy. Riabushenko deserves a lot of this win, piloting Gaviria back into good position, Gaviria not panicking but waiting in Rias slipstream, then finishing the job with leftover power against the other big guns. Perfect day, that's what we love to see.

Isostar killing it here. It’s a definate nail in the coffin for the PT win to actually making the sprints work.
Farantakis pretty consistent, but 6-9 just doesn’t give any points worth the trouble. A top 3 at one point would help a lot.

As much as it's unfortunate with regards to all your efforts, I think the corners and bends are actually beneficial here. Riders spend much less energy going through corners, so depending on how long/tight those bends are, they can propel riders some 200-400 meters forward at almost no energy cost, which helps with the energy conservation. The bends also have the potential to shake things up behind the leadouts (which was I think why they were eliminated?) and make it harder to catch up, which typically helps the guys with actual trains, who are at the front. The comparably steep differences in a somewhat shallow sprinter field also helps for sure.
Congrats Isostar for a strong opening week, looking forward to the mountains now!

As much as it's unfortunate with regards to all your efforts,
oh That do not matter at all. I do prefer to see realism and personally have always been against changes profiles/races to get "better" or fair result. I have always thought MG should adapt to the game not the other way around.
I changed stuff to fit what "MG" asked for, not my personal preferences.
Anyway it is great to see lead-out work here. Guess we all like to see that.

Finally getting close to that stage win, but today wasn't the day either. I wonder if Grosu could have won if he hadn't lost the wheel of the train or that was actually what helped him get his best result yet.

Same story as every stage. Dzamastagic doesnt care about trains but joins the sprint too late. Nice to see that he still gets into the top 10 here but its a whole lot of "what could be" if he would constantly join the sprint preparation. But thats nothing that frustrates me as it was known beforehand and the race really just starts for us right now.

Hell yeah! 
Strong performance by Taaramae after a beautiful assist by Blums. Feels especially great after i declined a huge offer for Blums this offseason because i saw him as the perfect lieutenant and he pays it back setting up Taaramae perfectly here. Stage win, points, bonus seconds, love to see it!
And while i'm not too scared of them, it is still good to see that Cattaneo and Kritskiy lose a bit off time on a stage where they should have some weaknesses.
Next stage will be important to as the prestigious mountain top finish at the Angliru can change things up a lot.

A very interesting race to watch and at the moment it is a close fight for the GC. I love it!
Gaviria is the man to beat at sprints, very strong performances for him. I am also quite happy to see Eduard Grosu doing well, although I would have been even happier to see him win stage 8.

David de la Cruz did reasonably well here, but we are yet to see our team present in a breakaway, which I think is about time. It's not like we have a big favorite in any terrain with Farantakis our main sprinter and de la Cruz our GC hope.
Nice to see Taaramäe take the win though.

All the big ones up there in group 1 basically but somehow the game mixed Kritskiy and Carboni.
Can`t complain though as this means the Italian is up for a GC run from the beginning different to the Giro. In Italy it played out well due to having room for attacks. Here it will be interesting to see how long he can stay up there. His ITT already was pretty impressive as team`s best, now 6th on the first uphill finish gaining small itme on direct opponents such as Cattaneo, Pinot, Kirsch, Nessett, De la Cruz, Smith etc.
In long run Kritskiy, Reis likely pass him anyway but nice to see he can perform like this.
Koep once again having a great day in the mountains as 26th beating all the better support riders. Denz as 39th also very decent while Schlegel 54th still looking for his form really with Ciccone at 74th clearly should have been stronger. But then you never know who had what kind of task at that stage. |

Quiet race for us so far, with Trondsen mostly just getting outside the top 10. Good to see Sosa trying in the break today, but unfortunately got very little out of it. On the other hand, Nesset seems to be ready to go for a good GC. Hopefully he can keep that up.

What a brutal stage, thoroughly deserved for Tenorio playing cat and mouse with Madrazo all the way up the Angliru. He has a nice little advantage over Madrazo now too.
