Veenendaal - Veenendaal
Welcome to the Netherlands for a race which has been on the World Cycling Calendar for many years, having been formerly known as the Dutch Food Valley Classic. The profile has remained largely unchanged over the years. It's flat which should mean a sprinters paradise.
Although the race profile says sprinters paradise, recent history does suggest that those powerful and aggressive riders strong on the Flats could spoil the party.
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | Method | 2020 | Rowe | Vanbilsen | Summerhill | Late attack from these 3 | 2019 | Rowe | Vanbilsen | Tennant | Late attack from these 3 | 2018 | Hermans | Degenkolb | Guarnieri | Late attack | 2017 | Cavendish | Maikin | Bouhanni | Sprint |
However, one thing when you see who teams have sent here, is that there doesn't appear to be many of those riders who could attack late. The race is in HC this year and most teams seem to be pretty happy with the sprinter strategy.
The 6 favourites who have the best lead-out options are Ewan, Kennaugh, Howard, Saber Vesely and AKA. But we have noticed this season that being the team providing the best lead-out is not always the best thing. Riders who will be looking to make the most of this are the likes of Manninen, Guarnieri and Silvestre.

I hope to all the gods that we can actually turn up here and not make a train! Nothing much else to say considering the sprints this year, who knows what could happen. EBE for a late attack would be lovely though
Thanks for the preview!

Absolutely mind boggling that Vanbilsen isn't here for Lierse - with his tormentor Rowe finally out of the division (and coming back next year) surely this was his year?
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Top 10 would be nice from Bonifazio, can't ask for anything more.

Vanbilsen + Bonifazio didn't work together well, to say the least. I decided to go for the sprinter this year.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Saber does better with a leadout, but for some reason I sent Rajovic here also and he's not a good leadout rider. So this is the only race all year where I don't want to see a leadout
Thanks for the preview

Not looking for much here. A top20 from Havik would be good already.

Our fight to avoid relegation is getting ever more desperate. Ewan has to turn up here with a result, so i imagine there'll be a late attack again and he'll not even sprint in the main group.
AKA, Silvestre, Halvorsen, we know which tier-2 sprinters the AI loves and they are my picks to win in a sprint.

Silvestre, do your thing! Curious to see if there's any impact of us just having 6 men here, but given how we usually operate in these races, I doubt it. Good luck everyone!

Getting harder to keep hoping for a turnaround but it never comes. TVA did well at DUC and then did decently at Baltic Chain. Hopefully, he can get back to that here.

AKA has been phenomenal lately. Turning up with a result here would be amazing for our standings position. That said, in a classic like this with so many sprinters, someone always gets shafted, and it very well could be our turn. Not to mention, it could easily be a late attack victory like the last few years. In which case, Trentin probably doesn't have the power to go with it, but he's here anyway and an option.
Thanks for the preview!

The way the season has been going for Kennaugh I don't expect much from this race. All I ask is that he at least be involved in the final sprint if the race is decided that way.
Thanks for the preview

When picking this race, I was hoping for action from late attackers. Seeing how the season has progressed, that hope is not there anymore That makes this race one where we have no expectations, and any result will be a good result! |

Manninen hasn't performed very well in this field so far. Hope we don't make a train and he doesn't start sprinting with 1.5 km to go. Good luck everyone

I guess he liked that idea..
For Bonifazio 16th isn't good enough, but yeah, sprints. Thanks for the report LLS!

I'll take fifth place, especially after Silvestre was poorly placed earlier. Happy that Manninen finally showed up, even if it wasn't quite enough to win it. Then again, also kinda cool to see that a late attack even has a chance to stick. Good to see this variability. Congrats Assa Abloy, great win! And Aker continues their great season as well! Thanks for the nice report LLS!

Late attacks can work
I definitely didn't have the support I usually have, but I think Saber does alright in these bumpy and slightly chaotic classics. 6th is great
Thanks for the report LLS
